  • A truly touch-based musical instrument.

As unique iPad musical instruments go, Orphion is perhaps the most well-thought-out and expressive. On first playing, Orphion sounds like a Koto or Zheng. But after a few minutes you'll be playing violin and tubulum sounds just by how you attack the pads. Gesture-based vibrato, tremolo and portamento make this a truly expressive instrument. Try a little Koto Blues on it.

    + 8 note polyphonic
+ 14 pad layouts include guitar fretboard, keys, drums, but the really cool ones are the less conventional, like Pentawheel and Bluescale.
+ Transpose any scale with the Sharp and Flat buttons
+ In-app purchase of padset builder
+ Very fast pad response for playing insane percussion
+ Export recordings by email and audio copy, play live with AudioBus and MIDI

    - Senstivity needs a little more fine tuning so you can easily get a nice violin as well as a nice Koto.
    - Bass sounds are a bit anemic.

  • The Coolest iPad instrument

I've been looking for an instrument that truly took advantage of the iPads functionality and also serve as a MIDI controller. Orphion is it. Honestly, I haven't gotten to the second part yet because I've had so much fun playing with it! Wonderful software. Intuitive, expressive. I wish it had more voices, but that's where the MIDI comes in. Back to work!

  • Fantastic

I am thrilled by the rich and diverse sound that one can produce through the simple interface. Love playing it, babies and kids too !
  • Sooooo Coooool !!!!!

This is a really cool new instrument...
Connect to an amp to hear the new sounds and super bass.
A unique new electronic sound is born.

I wonder how long it will be before it's heard on the next BIG Hit ?

    Try it yourself NOW !!!!!
  • Fun!

I really love this app. It is fun, and it allows me to make simple melodies. I play with it when I find a few minutes and am still learning. Get it!
  • Amazing

K I'm a music major and I find this easier than piano. I would replace all synthesizers and keyboards with something like this if I could. All it needs now is multiple sounds.
  • Good fun

Not a 'serious' musical instrument but got to have a bash and a quick jam on. Easy to play and fun.
  • Simple, usable instrument

It's great to see people invent new instruments for tablets rather than trying to replicate real ones that don't work great with a touch screen. This one is responsive and fun to use.
  • Lots of potential...

First off, the good: the variety of touches that you can use in this instrument is great. It allows for a great deal of expressiveness.

That said, I very quickly came across a lot of "I wishes"...

...that I could adjust the timbre of the various touches.
...that the sensitivity slider was way longer for finer adjustment.
...that I could adjust the amount of vibrato or detune/bend)
    And the biggest of all...
...that I could define and save my own layout.

Considering that this app already has MIDI, I love the thought of things that I could do with it if I could set the rules as far as the workspace (scale, range, depth of vibrato or pitch bend, timbre...the list goes on), both with iOS apps and my DAW. I'm not saying this app is a toy, but it could be so much more. I love the mechanics, but this is a digital instrument; there's no reason for it to be confined to the defined rules that a physical instrument has.

  • Good, but no customisation.

It sounds great and it's easy to use, just wish I could customise the layout of the pads
