Not worth the headache.
EvGoEv with OPconnect in Hawai’i (O’ahu to be exact) is terrible! Most of the machines do not charge you the advertised rate, they charge slower than what it’s suppose to charge for DC fast chargers and there’s no technicians on the island. You should just cut your losses and go charge with Electrify America.
Hawai’i Kai location:
Is always broken
Kapahulu location:
Need to connect at least 5 times before it works but will stop on its own randomly.
Ward Ave location:
under construction for a few weeks now.
Safeway Salt Lake location:
Works but safety and security of the parking
I hate this app

Outdated, antiquated app
Have y’all not improved this app since 2012 or something? Also why, in 2024, can I not just pay as I go? I get that y’all like to keep larger chunks of money to serve as a bank for you..but a $20 minimum? Really? With 0 investment in bettering the app since the Obama era? Come on…
Terrible
There’s some opt-out setting that double charges, so I was charged $40 for a $17 charge.
And do you really need my full name, address, verified email, and verified phone number just to charge?

Bug Report(s)
Bug report: App shows charging time in history as a negative number. Support for non-operational stations was available, but they couldn’t remotely start station due to “connection issues”.
Bug Report: App looks for nearby stations via Bluetooth. There was no Bluetooth coming from stations at Westin Nanea on Maui. They were all broadcasting a WiFi SSID, but locked.

Others could be charging from your account
I charged my EV for a few hours but received an invoice for 3 days of charging. It seems I paid for everyone who used the station during that time. called the hotline multiple times, but the issue still hasn't been resolved.
Horrible function
The charging station only allows one car charging per time. Why would you have 2 plugs if only one car can be charged? Whoever designed this was a marjor fail
Pretty Average App
I’m so uninspired by the development of this app and the lack of refinement. No easy account creation or integration with basic Apple API for password creation and payment information. Fine you don’t want to pay the 30% but you also are making your app a little less accessible to other users who would rather turn away than do a tedious account setup. Could’ve had a Google Account sign in as well. Seems a little insecure to force users to try and make a separate account and generate a password themselves than let API help save it in the keychain or google passwords. Even my autofilled keychain password only replicated to 1/2 password fields so I had to manually and copy the password in because autofill would repaste into field 1 instead of field 2.
Selecting stations is tedious and often fails to authenticate meaning you have to reattempt a session.
Do better OpConnect you and ever other EV network have to show you can manage this efficiently to reduce the stress on first time ev owners and hesitant ones at that. I shouldn’t have to fiddle with apps and account to start a session. Give me a virtual card or let me just pay like I would at a pump.

Buggy
Had an issue where the app logged me out mid-charge and would not recognize it was plugged in, and therefore couldn’t disconnect. Had to call customer service to bail me out.
Clunky but Nearby
50% of the time, it works every time! Currently, only one of two chargers closest to my apartment is working. It’s been like that for at least a couple weeks now. I’d report it in the app but I can’t figure out how. I don’t think there’s a way to report it. Even when both plugs are working, I plug in and it thinks and thinks and thinks before finally connecting and starting to charge. Meanwhile, I’m just standing there like a doofus looking at my phone. On the bright side, it didn’t charge me for charging several times in the past. Yay!!! Free!!! The rates are ridiculous. I could literally go to a Tesla Supercharger and it’d cost about the same but take one sixth the time. The only reason I use this thing is because it’s right in front of my apartment and it’s usually available. They are in dire need of an app upgrade and a team of technicians to fix their broken chargers. I’m rooting for you OpConnect! Thanks for the free juice!

This app always fails
I always get an “Error 13” message when trying to use this app, or that it can’t find the station. What kind of app fails so often you can’t pay for their service.
Every time I see one of these chargers I know I’m going t have to spend at least 20 minutes extra playing roulette with the stupid app.
