Harmony® Control User Reviews

This app isn’t nearly as bad as the reviews

I don’t usually write reviews but it looked like most of the reviews left were by people having their own tech issues.

This app isn’t 100% perfect but it’s not rocket science. I’ve got two hubs and multiple devices set up and running through Alexa and Apple Home using homebridge. I’m not a tech person but everything has worked like a charm for over a year now. I wasn’t a major fan of how the system revolves around “activities” but it makes sense now that I’ve gotten used to it. Plus, it’s pretty easy to just click on “Devices” and control devices individually when necessary.

Oh, and the finally been updated to the iPhone X UI, which was my biggest pet peeve. Overall, it’s still the best universal remote system on the market right now.

Glitch in connection set up

Hello, I like the app, does what it needs to do. The setup config though cannot find the harmony hub after the hub connects to the router on a different ip address. Surely there could be a check built in in the app, otherwise the app keeps searching and won’t find the harmony hub.

Response from developer

Hi Lecrayon, Harmony App should connect to the Hub via cloud even if it is in different network/IP. If it is not connecting, email your Harmony login id to harmonyteam+ios@logitech.com and provide more information on the problems you're facing. We will work with you to resolve it. Best Regards, Peter (Harmony Remotes, Logitech).

Useless - cannot edit commands

Very poor. No capability to edit command sequences. Try adding a step and it tacks it on the end. Can’t alter the order of commands. Basically have to delete the entire string of commands and re enter from scratch just to alter the order or add a delay. Make changes in the app and save and then check and its reverted back to the old commands. Really, save your money. Logitech have so restricted the software in the mistaken belief they know what i want to do i cannot get the command strings i want saved

Please enable Apple Watch

This is a good app, but I feel it would be so much better, if there was Apple Watch functionality incorporated. It wouldn’t have to be anything fancy - just Activities and Volume / Mute maybe? I’d love to be able to start the TV by tapping my watch. Sometimes getting the remote or iPhone seems too much like hard work :-) #couchpotato!

Steep and long learning curve

It has taken me a year to learn how to use this hub. It has been frustrating and dumbfounding at times, but in the end it is a powerful and good hub that can truly control a ton of devices. I have 20+ lights (switches and dimmers), 3 tv’s, 14 Sonos speakers, and fans on this. With scenes galore and geo settings set up thru life 360 it automates a ton of things for us. I use the Z Wave hub as well to control the lights. We also integrate with Alexa and I can verbally control my entire TV sets with cable box and fire tv and Roku even to change channel and adjust volume and music. Of course there are tiny quirks and some small gaps, but overall it is impressive. Occasionally there are app updates that can introduce some minor changes but it is stable for the most part. Logitech has a hard job with all the devices and features and lack of knowledge for consumers so hats off to them. So be prepared to make this a learning experience. It took me a year to get it close to perfect, but I do love it. Learn to research on your own, use google and forums, leverage their Cust service. My wife who is not tech savvy still can make everything work so I’m the end, it’s functional.

Was a little worried, but pleasantly surprised

I took delivery of my Logitech Elite and hub yesterday and followed the instructions to download the app. I was slightly alarmed by the low app-store rating, but obviously already committed by then. The app worked perfectly, migrating my previous remote settings to the Elite and helping me set up some new stuff too. I’m very happy with the new remote and the performance of the app too.

Credit when credit due

This app used to be like a house that was added too and added too and not well planed. It was disjointed and confusing as hell.

It looks like it’s been consolidated into a more efficient layout and less confusing. It’s smoother and more reliable. I have restored faith that Logitech is listening and working hard to make a smart hub with a smart app! Keep up the good work! There’s still plenty I would change to make it more efficient, but I’m sure you can figure it out from all the other negative comments.

The actual logistics behind making this all just “work” must be incomprehensible!

Incredibly poorly made app/product

I rarely leave app reviews but this app/product is so awful I feel it's my responsibility to warn others. It just doesn't work properly. I have spent hours configuring various 'activities' within the app to do things like turn on my TV, change video source, and raise/lower sound bar volume. These activities rarely work well, and frequently only part of the command will run, resulting in a situation where maybe my sound bar turns on but my TV does not, but harmony now believes both devices are on, so I have to go find my old TV and sound bar remote controls and manually sync everything up. When I try to control harmony via my Google home mini speaker, you need to be perfectly specific with your commands or harmony will not understand them, but harmony sometimes will just tell me that it's 'refreshing my account' instead of doing what I asked. This app and product have made my TV experience vastly more complicated and I'll probably end up throwing it all in the garbage. I am a software emgineer for a living, the people Logitech has working on this should be ashamed of the work they've turned in, it's a truly abysmal user experience.

Response from developer

Hi Apefragments, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused. If the devices are randomly not turning on/off via Activities, then this can be fixed by changing the delays. I'd request you to send an email to harmonyteam+ios@logitech.com and let me know which Activity & device you're experiencing this issue. I'll look into your account and make changes (if needed) to resolve it. Best Regards, Peter (Harmony Remotes, Logitech).

Excellent!

I read some of the negative reviews before purchasing the Harmony ultimate remote with hub. But I took a chance anyway and boy am I glad I did. It took a while to set up. However once I figured out what adjustments to make in the settings in the app and on my equipment (including turning off the Anynet+ feature on all devices which really confuses the remote), everything works flawlessly. I am very impressed with the level of detail that all of the menus have, both in the app and also on the remote. My only complaint might be that the remote control is rather small and which makes it awkward to reach the volume, channel selector, and mute buttons with the thumb. However, after getting use to using the greater swipe functions, these buttons are no longer necessary! I set the hub across the room from my entertainment center and it has had no problems controlling all of my devices. I would recommend this app and the Harmony Ultimate remote highly.

Disappointing

I recently received the harmony hub with a basic remote for Xmas. It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time because I’m always fumbling with multiple remotes in my living room. But sadly, this implementation is way more clumsy than I anticipated. So far I haven’t been able to get the Harmony app to recognize my 3rd gen Apple TV. Also, there’s no easy way with the remote to switch between controlling devices which makes it pretty much just a replacement for one remote, and who needs another remote to add to their pile? The app is not optimized for the iPhone X screen and looks terrible. The app should be rebuilt from the ground up as the UI is counter intuitive and very confusing. It would be nice to have a screen where you have all you devices side by side at the bottom of the app (like iOS normal bottom-screen menu) and controls on top. Simplify. Overall the functionality is there to have an awesome universal remote app, but the implementation and execution is sloppy, ugly and clumsy.
