  • Still not updated from S30

Although this is supposed to be the App for the new S40, there is still verbiage from the older S30 app which Lennox has not updated. Also, the Smart Away (geofencing) feature works only occasionally on the iPhone. After 3 complaints, Lennox Customer Support said a future update (timeline unknown) would fix it. I am not sure whether that was a way to stop my constant calls or whether they were really on it. If the latter, I don’t see any official statement anywhere. (In the meantime they are selling a product promising features we paid for that don’t really have exist. Lawsuit anyone?). But I gave 3 stars as the HVAC system itself seems solid, and the rest of the App is more or less okay (once you get around unclear wording of some choice options).

  • Works fine for the most part

Not sure about the other review I see here from Canada where the person had registration issues, as I was able to do so quite easily a week prior...

Anyways, the app works fine for the most part, though there are times in certain sections/areas where after making a change a box appears indicating it’s processing but nothing ever happens and you must force-close the app and restart it.
The only other complaint or feature request I’d ask for would be to allow the full configuration options in the app “as they are” on the thermostat itself (including the advanced settings which currently require having physical access to the thermostat plus using another app in order to make adjustments - which (by the way) make using said app almost pointless, as you need that physical access anyways so you might as well just make those changes at the thermostat).
When trying to get a new system working exactly as you wish (considering all the configuration options available), plus the simple fact that it will take a week or two to fine tune those settings, it’s quite inconvenient having to constantly be running to the thermostat itself to make those minor tweaks several times a day and over a several week period...

  • Poor so interface

Too complex. Too many clicks to get to frequently used features. Overly complex. Sometimes does not turn HVAC on even though temp is far out of range.
Have to set temps 4 degrees higher because thermostat is poorly calibrated.
  • Real postal code in Canada deemed invalid

When creating a new home, I chose Canada and entered my BC postal code , but wasn’t able to proceed to the next step because the app kept yelling “please enter a valid zip code”. I had no choice but to use a US zip code to walk around this bug, which is just ridiculous.
  • You need a web app

Let me know when one will be available. Much needed. The iOS app is great. Simple yet powerful.
  • Lame

Hard to connect. Software writers dream but users burden.
  • Does not work with Alexa

There is currently a problem connecting to Alexa so if you try to use this app with an Alexa device, it will not work. This problem is known by Lennox and they apparently are working on it but it has been quite a while.
  • Good system, cheap app

I’ve just had everything installed and so far impressed with the actual equipment, but the UI/UX of the app is pretty blah. My first experience was setting up an account and the interface didn’t even autocapitalize the first letter of my first and last name - a pretty clear indicator that a cheap developer was used. You can’t even search for the app by the keyword “lennox”!

Then overall the general experience of using the app (and thermostat) just is laggy and not pleasant.

I’m continuing to add issues as I notice them.

To be fair it seems functional. The only caveat is the setpoint scheduler which I just find clunky, for lack of a more useful description. For reference I’m coming from an Ecobee (forced out of it because Lennox chose to design their controls in a way that forces people to use their thermostats in heat pump systems) which had some flaws, but was generally very well designed and implemented. And now I have to pay $130 for a room sensor… Also, the room sensors are either used or not in the temp averaging. Unlike Ecobee where you can specifically select which sensors are used for specific times of day (depending on where people generally are).

The screen seems to be large only to justify the high price, and doesn’t have a lot of details or customization. The feature to wake when you walk up to it just doesn’t work. Other cheaper thermostats will even tell you things like “stage 2 Heating”. With a fully variable system I’d like to see something like “Heating 34%, Fan 28%” but the s40 only says heating or cooling.

The smart away feature seems to only work well if a single person lived in a house. Multiple accounts can’t be created and linked to the system (that I can tell). So I logged into one account on my phone and my wife’s, and the system goes into away mode when either of us leaves, not both (which is logical and what the ecobee does when paired with HomeKit).

I’ve seen conflicting details on if the s40 can be paired with HomeKit. It was mentioned in some places on the Lennox website, but the setting seems to be missing for me to make the connection.

And now the time is off by an hour, but it just pulls it automatically from the location and I can’t find a way to overwrite it.
