  • Pro pricing structure is insane

I liked the IFTTT interface and only actually used 3 applets but I can live without them. The pro pricing structure is absolutely ridiculous and pure greed. 9.99 per month to switch lights, or save contacts, or text me when the weather is raining that is insane. More the expensive than Netflix, or Disney+ what! I could have forgiven £1 or maybe £2 is acceptable to users even though I expect this would be hard to swallow. I also appreciate that a company should make money. However a company as large as IFTTT should be able to charge the vendors of the equipment and that is covered in the one off charge of a device. Smart home kit is already expensive when thinking about a whole home but charging subscriptions for the privilege of connecting devices together is indefensible and almost instantly stops their homes working together. Isn’t this holding to ransom? I hope IFTTT change their mind otherwise I expect a lot of similar comments and app removals.

  • Never loved it, now I hate it

I have hung on to this for years hoping it would get better over time, but it just hasn’t. Now with the 3 applet limit, it’s just worthless. It’s never been easy to figure out how services interact, and so many things you couldn’t do ( like turn on a window fan via smart plug when the outside temperature reaches a certain value ). All the info is there in the app, but no way to connect them. And now the Pro option makes it so it’s not even worth the effort to try to figure out. Good bye F This Then F That. You’ve F’d yourselves.

Developer response: You can still use as many published applets as you like for free.

Well maybe so, but the app sure makes it hard to figure out how to do that. Add screen just has Create and tells you limit 3. And I couldn’t find my original stuff to edit either. Annoying as F

  • Good concept but personally not worth paying for.

I’ve been using this app for years and when I first started, I was mightily impressed. Over the years, applets stopped working and the app wasn’t an important thing anymore. Now, the new thing is to pay monthly subscriptions for better apps, but I’m not one of those “jump on the bandwagon” people anymore. If I did, I’d be paying hundreds of dollars that I could be spending elsewhere because almost every app wants you to pay more money to them on a monthly or annual basis. I say enough is enough. I don’t want to pick my own price and have it increase sometime when you least expect it. I’ve kept the one or two applets that are working and trashed the rest. I loved the concept, but I’m really not interested anymore.

  • It used to be amazing

IFTTT are a really greedy company. They decided recently that ripping off companies is not enough and their crazy subscription service is a slap in the face for the consumers who have relied on them as the answer to the mess of the smart home market. I still love the fundamental platform but I absolutely hate the company for this awful move and cannot believe how absolutely greedy they are. I have put all of my eggs in the IFTTT basket and I am now going to get railroaded because I decided to favour their platform. If they don’t fix this horrible decision they should be booted out of the market.

  • No way you can justify the cost

Greed is honestly the only word I can think of with this. $10 is absolutely outrageous. If you wanna charge maybe $10 for a LIFETIME subscription, maybe...MAYBE $2/month and that's still pushing it. I guess charge for the ability to use multiple ifttt commands in one applet. But to REMOVE features that have been free since ifttts inception is a slimy business move that forever tarnishes your reputation. Theres no way I'll be paying that ridiculous price, so with only 3 custom applets, ifttt with be essentially useless to me now. Add this to the list of things to fall victim to 2020

  • It was good while it lasted!

I have been using ifttt to link many of my smart home devices for about a year now and it has worked great, however with the introduction with ifttt pro, I don’t believe it is right for ifttt to restrict users to a certain limit that they can create when we were allowed create unlimited applets before. I think the pro plan should have only been for the new features that they introduced instead of forcing people to upgrade to pro if they want to create more than than three of their applets. Also, ifttt says that their free users will have unlimited access to already published applets, however no one uses these published applets because they do not do what we want them to do. Also, the lack of communication from iftt was outrageous as they had informed their users after they implemented all of these new changes and did not give us much time to switch to other solutions. I will looking towards switching all of my to smart home devices to an alternative solution like home assistant which will run locally on my network and highly recommend other people who don’t want to pay for the service that was once free to also switch.

Sorry if this seemed sudden. All your Applets will continue to function through Oct. 7 We think that the new features of Pro plus its flexible pricing is a good deal. We'll continue listening to our community's feedback and evolve Pro over time.
  • Limited to a mere 3 applets

“Unlock advances options with pro!” Yeah, and limiting the number of applets to the free users to a mere 3. What’s the point of this service with just 3 applets.

I can understand wanted to reserve advanced applets to pro users, but to limit the number of simple one step applets to 3 for free users feels like a kick in the teeth. I feel incredibly screwed over. I loved ifttt. But now, not so much.

They dare to ask $10 a month, after many users have paid a premium price for products that work with this convenient (and until now absolutely free) product. No. Make different tiers at the very least, with $10 including the most advanced features. What I do with ifttt doesn’t warrant $10/month. I’m so incredibly disappointed.

  • About the update

I agree with some of the reviews that the 3 applet limit is a bit low. I’d raise it to 10 and any more after that you need to pay. Some of the other reviews really sound very entitled. You used a service for free for many years which has worked well - it’s not greed if the developers want to make some money from it. They need to eat and having a subscription is them saying they can’t afford to continue this way. It’s either they charge or shut down. They even sent an email to give you a heads up. It’s an optional $10 a month whereas Zapier is $20 and Microsoft Flow is $15. I’ve yet to run across a cheaper option, unless you want to build your own and parse apis yourself. Maybe it’s because I’m a developer myself but people act like programming is simple and companies don’t deserve to make a profit. The whole point of a product is to make money. Get over yourself. Everything can’t be free, if you like a service pay for it.

  • IFTTT = If you pay then this will work

I have been a faithful IFTTT user for years. There have been instabilities here and there but on average it has worked well. Then tonight I discovered one of my webhooks wasn’t working. I opened the app to troubleshoot, only to find out that none of my applets are working at all. Further, I can’t edit, archive, delete, or disconnect any of them either. I can’t do anything in the app anymore.

I understand developers need income and because of that I am willing to pay for an app if it meets my needs. But to shut off the entire basic functionality without warning and hold my app hostage until I upgrade to the (rather expensive) pro version is selfish. If you had kept basic functionality for existing users and offered pro features for the subscription, I probably would’ve paid. But since you’ve turned your back on your users I’ll be looking elsewhere, even if I have to pay more. It’s the principle of it.

Appreciate the feedback. This is one of the reasons we wanted to give people the option to pick their price and also continue to enable as many published applets as they want for free.
  • Amazing, until Google dropped support

I had IFTTT set up exactly how I wanted my products to perform and interact with each other, I had no issues with which brand to buy as I found all of them worked with this app but I chose heavily towards nest because I find the smoke alarms and cameras to be incredible. Now nest has been taken over by google and many of my IFTTT commands no longer function as they have dropped support. I’m not able move my products away from google as I'm heavily invested from the initial outlay and therefore although IFTTT doesn’t deserve my 2 star rating, is all I can award as my home is now largely lacking the automation I once had.
