Piano Chords and Scales User Reviews

Great study tool! So good.

I’ve tried a lot of apps over the years to facilitate a deeper understanding of basic music theory, and this is the best for me. It’s been the best way for me to explore the musical relationships of notes as scales and chords, on the sheet and on the keyboard. I’m a guitarist and have found this tool to be invaluable. I straight bought the app because I feel I’ll use it for a long time.

Finally

Finally i have an app that has me learning scales easily and tests me to such an extent that today i was so riveted with it that i kept a friend waiting for 10 minutes while i was oblivious to the world checking my ear recognition of different chord forms. Was it a minor, major, augmented or diminished chord i was hearing? I’m now starting to get which it is. Excellent. And enjoying learning scales. I never thought i’d ever say that. Well done

Great app

As someone who is just learning how to play, this is a wonderful app. I like that I can enter notes and it tells what the chord is, and how it sounds. I also like the scales and how it shows fingering position. I’m not ready for progressions, but I like that it’s there. This app does everything I need to continue my training.

"Staff"? Was in screenshot. HANDS

Hi, I just downloaded this and was looking at the area for learning scales. You have a screenshot that has three different options at top. One of which is "staff" and shows the hands (the other two are "root" and "piano"). I'm not seeing that in the actual app. And I can't find information to say whether that's a premium feature.

It would be nice if it was clear… This is the only app I saw that did the hands and fingering for learning scales which is super useful.

also and maybe I just didn't find this yet… But a little introduction page or something just to go over what the main features are would be cool. I'm kind of unsure on where to go or what all this is to be used for. Or if all of the things listed on the premium is it, or if there might be additional functionality that's not there, such as staff view.

Some apps have a quick little demo just when you open it to give you an idea, which would be a nice touch for people getting their feet wet, let them know what they can do in here. Like, I already know I want to learn some scales but not clear on what else I could do or why I might want different views etc.

Thanks.

(my start rating is simply because I've not been able to evaluate this thing properly at this moment. And because I got it for the one setting which I cannot seem to locate, and maybe it was taken out? Or is behind a pay wall. It's unclear.)

Response from developer

Staff is for the sheet music chord finder. You are probably looking for scales. Select scales in bottom tab bar. Tap an arrow on scale. Scroll down a bit and you will find hands with scale fingers.

Love this

Hi my name is savannah this game is too good

Love it! But….

I bought the full app. This is a wonderful app for writing. I mean it, this is terrific. A few points though. The instruments are terrible sounding with the exception to the Grand Piano and the quieter piano. I’d love to see more, and higher quality choices. Also the setup for making songs is SO AWKWARD. To hear parts of your tune, you have to either hit each note and let it play the length you chose, or replay the WHOLE song. When you go to search mode for more notes, I hate having to try to chose the next note you want, by only hearing the last note played. The whole writing section needs throwing out. It is way too awkward, and does not allow for getting into the feel and groove of the tune. I can work it, I’m grateful, but I really, really hate it. Also the circle of fifths does not turn. When you play one note, the whole scale plays. I just can’t use this. One note at a time, not the whole scale. I have a list of features I’d love to talk to you about to make this a PERFECT songwriters dream, if you’re interested. No matter what…I use it every night to write.

Helpful Resource

Useful to be able to quickly scroll through an extensive list of chords on my iPad whilst learning a new piece. This is the best I have found of this type. Thank you. Worth the money.

Chords

Amazing!

One of the best useful apps ever!

For learning piano this app is indispensable and well worth the $4.99 to have it all. As a visual learner you can quickly see the patterns and make sense of the use of fingering, especially with scales. I can even practice memorizing scales when away from an actual piano. Plus you have everything you need on the screen - if you want to know the musical notation but also want to see where it is on the piano keyboard its all there - plus you can play it back. When practicing scales you can choose whether it's the notes or the finger numbers that appear on keyboard. You would have to spend at least $35 to find a paperback chord book that still wouldn't contain all of this without it being too large of a book. Bravo to the team that took the time to develop this app - thanks for that!!!

Edition: I keep discovering new features on this app and I’m so grateful for it! In particular I’ve been utilizing the flashcards, quizzes and what not that are teaching me how to recognize and name all kinds of chord shapes, either by pattern on piano or musical notation!
