  • Comprehension Questions?

Coursera courses follow a disturbing pattern that is not educationally sound. Watch a video. Watch another video. Watch another video. Watch another video. Quiz. Any teacher worth hiring can easily point out that this looks suspiciously like aiming a firehouse full of information at learners and expecting them to get “something” out of all those videos.

Best practice: give learners comprehension questions before each video. It doesn’t matter if completing them is required. Any learner who wants to maximize the benefit they get from the course will answer them thoughtfully and then check their answers after completing them. There’s no excuse for why Coursera doesn’t require this and learners are kidding themselves if they think writing notes and/or just watching is enough.

Also, don’t ask learners to watch a few videos and then ask a very detailed question from three videos ago. If you didn’t signify that it was important to me while watching the video, it isn’t reasonable that I will have paid enough attention to make a note of it in anticipation of a quiz question.

Overall, Coursera, like Duolingo, borders on edutainment. You feel good because you’re “doing something”, much like someone going to the gym to watch other people exercise while they sit on the equipment doing nothing. But let’s not kid ourselves: you’re not getting nearly as much as you should from these courses if Coursera can’t follow best practices.

Because grit and time patience and determination matter more than anything its doesn’t matter if your 50 or 15 years old you can be successful and get a certified professional job without the loans or stress don’t let this world defeat you. Practice labs and find different ways to get that experience. And prosper 999 type thing demons gatekeep god’s knowledge that he gave to us for free. I thank this platform from the bottom of my heart I paid 422 to get 1000 plus courses for a year I can carry with me till I’m in my grave.(small price to pay) I will use this to be what god wanted me to be great and caring. Every human inherently has the right to be whatever they want to be don’t let you anything stop you. God bless the human race I hope we can continue in unity and learn what peace is through knowledge not ignorance

  • Coursera app is great

I recently completed a course on Coursera and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. The platform offers a wide range of courses across various disciplines, all taught by credible institutions and industry experts. The course content was engaging, well-structured, and very informative, providing both theoretical knowledge and practical applications. The flexibility to learn at my own pace was a huge benefit, as it allowed me to balance my studies with other commitments. Additionally, the community forums were a great resource for interacting with fellow learners from around the world, which enhanced my learning experience. Whether you're looking to advance your career or acquire a new hobby, Coursera is a fantastic resource for personal and professional growth. Highly recommended!

  • Love

****your help center isn’t helpful if we can’t ask questions or for guidance if the problem isn’t listed there***
I am having issues with accessing my course certificate. It said it was ready to view but when I hit the link it doesn’t pop up and I can’t share it to my linked in page.

I love Coursera. It has a large selection of courses to choose from and I love that they have financial aid available. This makes learning accessible to everyone, something that is very important to me. I can’t wait for more courses and specializations to be added and hopefully they will partner with more universities!! I wish there were more art and music course and maybe politics. My only issues is the last few days, the app has been glitching and freezing randomly.

  • Horrible Customer Service and Billing Service

We, as a corporate customer with around 40 seats have recently experienced horrible customer service. First of all, we did not receive renewal notice at all, then we were told corporate plan was shutting down and all users data would be gone. We tried to provide payment info, customer service said they have no control of billing, therefore she cannot initiate a payment for us. Why would a company hire ANYONE who refuses to take customer payment in this age?! Along with HR and Finance leaders at my side, we spent nine days tried to get this resolved. Customer service was responsive but not helpful at all. Whatever we asked, the answer was "unfortunately No." We just wanted to keep our plan and pay the bill!!! Nothing is beyond this simple request. We eventually ran out of time and terminated our plan. The experience was unbelievable- there is no way I could not believe this is a company that serves PEOPLE AND THEIR NEEDS. Sometimes it made us think that customer service could be a robot. Absolutely no phone number to call in the US. Very limited contact method doesn't provide a way to escalate our issue. Terrible services and lack of flexibility when it comes to payments and a proper notification of plan renewal. Not recommending to any corporate customers!!!

  • Incredible content but app needs improvement

This is the most professional courses I have seen on an online course. Compare to it’s competition (Udemy, LinkedIn, Coursera & more) what really makes it superior it’s the accreditation of the people giving classes (they are really well done & university level people).

The app unfortunately (the website too) is not good enough. Some times video playback bugs, the AI test bot never works and the IOS app feels slow & also is not super practical despite looking nice.

I have to re-log in constantly and in many cases closes and re-open the app. The same goes for the website that starts bugging during video playback. For info, all my devices are up do date (app wise and system wise)

  • Convenient, Easy, and Educational

I completed a course on Coursera’s website on my ipad and found it difficult to start a second course on my phone due to screen formatting not being optimised for my device. When I found out they had an app, I decided to give it a try to see if it was any better. Now, I’ll never go back! The app makes learning much easier. The courses are laid out in a way which makes a lot of sense to me, and I love that it’s easy to work through each module hands-free (the next video autoplays once one ends) or jump back in when I’ve been away (the next thing to do is highlighted at the top of the page each time, but you’re also able to skip items and complete them in your own schedule). I wish there were more courses in my fields of interest, though this isn’t at Coursera’s fault and there are still a few for me to work through. I do, however, find the app is lacking a ‘wishlist’ function. It would be very helpful for me to be able to keep a list of courses I’m interested in within the app itself. Other than that, I have no complaints with this app so far!

  • Great courses, poor offline support

Coursera provides so much valuable information for such a reasonable price that a subscription is a no brainer. That is if you consistently have an internet connection at all times. I noticed a download option for the videos of the course I’m in. This prompted me to purchase a subscription knowing im out in the field frequently with incredibly poor internet access.

Videos took awhile to load despite being downloaded so I assume you cannot watch videos without an internet connection and many courses have hyperlinks integrated that require internet. I understand they need to check for a subscription, but I wish this platform was more offline friendly.

  • App needs work

The UI and the catalog is in desperate need of attention. The filtering, first off, is better than nothing. You can’t collapse your types of filtering. The fact that I filter for English, and still get other languages is a nuisance. Language selection should be first. The partners aren’t in alphabetical order which is maddening. I can choose the same or comparable codes in edX for less or they are at your own pace for less. There are courses that are useless. I tried looking up courses that cater to veterans, but were showing courses that are shown how to get educated as a veteran which are inherently useful, but do not warrant *paying for* like those from Columbia and Michigan University, for example. I’m not really sure why since of these courses require payment except that someone is charging money. You can find this help for free at any other university online, say Purdue, MIT, or Yale for example.

  • Useless on mobile app

I downloaded the mobile application, paid for a subscription and in the middle of the course the “third party tools” to complete the assignments did not work. Though it says it should work but they recommend using a desktop/laptop. It never worked. There was no mention of the use of those tools and possibility of them not working in the course description or pre- requisites. When emailing for support, it was of no use as they kept repeating they “recommend” using a desktop/laptop, despite me mentioning that i do not have access to a device for the next 3weeks. Their last response though i finished 97% of the course they would not mark it as complete and shared a link to the help/ support page that mentioned some “features” (not a tool) might not work on mobiles. A link or a page that you would never think to check (support page) when registering in coursera and enrolling in courses. Definitely cancelling my subscription and moving to other sites.
