It's magic for academic papers
I used to spend so much time formatting citations and all the nitty gritty of Table of Contents, etc, but with this it's all automatic and saves me so much time that I use to actually focus on the content of what I write. I absolutely loathe Word's style system and so I really enjoy the simple clean interface and formatting of Author. I don't use the mind map feature as much, but that's just because for those things I still prefer pen and paper- otherwise I think it's fab.

Practical value limited for professional publications..
Great application, but sadly professional work is compromised due to content type omissions. Consider 1) "A picture is worth a thousand words"... 2) "a scientific formula is worth a thousand pictures.." Without this type of content I cannot think or write properly. In my view, they can't be added later in an exported word doc without impact on the dcoument composition process. So in summary, I appreciate the idea purity, and compliment the creativity of the developer. But sadly it has no practical for me. Hopefully these features are coming as I'd love to actually use "Author"

Hi. I’m not sure what you mean. You can drag pictures into Author but maths notation is not yet supported, that is right. Can you tell me how you would like it to work?
WOW!
This level of though can only have come from years of writing and feeling the frustration of the academic writers. Its a dream application, mind-map, multi-cut and free form margin notes. It now 2020, the word processor has been here for 30yrs and now we see this kind of an evolution. This may not be for everyone but that is how good software is designed, laser focused for the end user. Great work Frode! I purchased it now so when its three times the price I have it :)

At last ...
... an editor I actually want to use.
There's quite a lot going on around Markdown and such these days, and that in itself is great.
However, this series of Apps changes so much of how one researches, writes and publishes in a really simple yet very powerful way.
It's as though the guy making this stuff boiled down the research-write-cite and publish process to truly essential activities and implemented a new set of tools to do it all with genuine ease.
A little like going from hand file to milling machine to CNC hand file.
There's nothing wrong with a hand file if it is automated and thoroughly effective.
This series of Apps is like adding CNC to hand filing: why wouldn't you?

Author is perfect for writers who want to use a simple, well designed and efficient word processor. The clean layout offers an easy to navigate app that is ideal for aiding writers in keeping their work organised and structured. This app allowed me to concentrate on the content I was writing, as the tools and features made the formatting side really clear and simple. The reference and citations tools help me keep track of my work while the ease of adding headings and changing text has made me work more efficiently.
This app has been extremely beneficial to me and made my writing better as I can spend more time focusing on what I am writing, rather than formatting (which Author has made so simple). This app is so valuable for writers in every area and is a must buy.

Highly recommend!!!
Such a great app! It has saved me so much time on all my essays as once they are finished I can easily and automatically create the reference section at the click of a button in PDF format. Also means the reference page is so neat and consistent which I always found very difficult to do before I used Author! It lets you leave notes in hidden margins which is great for those lightbulb moments as you can quickly note down your ideas in the relevant part of the essay to come back to at anytime. I highly recommend this to any students looking to save time and improve their experience of writing essays!

Miracle when writing essays
Aside from the beautifully clean layout of Author this app is such a time saver!
The automate citation paste works like a dream which is a great tool when you have lots of referencing to do. It also keeps the references smart which i always found quite tricky when doing it myself.
Another great feature is the Dynamic view which I've been using alot to brainstorm. You can also use the hidden margins to jot down notes next to the relevant paragraph. Overall as a university student i would say this is a must have for writing essays/papers or even brainstorming ideas

Very Elegant and Underrated
This is a lovely, lovely word processor. I hope the developer continues to explore the possibilities of this format. It is actually quite radical, a true departure from the concept of the word processor, let alone the format. I think it may take people time to take it in, but I hope people make the effort. I want this app to stay. I am an academic writer, and I couldn't have dreamed up a better writing app. It is so lovingly crafted and detailed and elegant.
I am so grateful for the work and thought and energy you've put into this beautiful word processor.

The 21st century way to write academic papers
Author completely removes the dreaded work of organizing and adding citations to a paper. Simply by using its companion app Reader, one can add as many referrences as needed to support an idea or statement with one shortcut and one click. Brilliant!!

then this is the writing application for you. Looks good on the page and just gets the job done without any gadgets. Plus it has some really great ways to get your creative juices going. Like Dynamic View. A way to think to yourself on the page. Worth every £ or ¢ (depending on where you are).
