  • Me

23andMe is amazing! An email came through this morning with my results and I’ve spent the last three hours going through the many bits and pieces. My DNA revealed. The app was very helpful and easy to navigate. I have relatives. I didn’t even know I had. I would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone who knows or doesn’t know about their family history. We’ve all been told family stories, but DNA is much more solid than that. I come from poverty and the foster care system, which had disconnected me from blood related family members. 23andMe has managed to give me comfort about who I am, my health, where I come from, and who I am DNA family matched. That’s a gift of a lifetime. Thank you 23andMe. I intend to have my adult children do 23andMe for their understanding of who they are genetically. I would also highly recommend this for all foster youth who have no idea about their family history and health.

  • Thank you 23&Me I found half siblings

I was curious to see if I had any distant relatives on my father’s side of the family. I had always been told I was my father’s only child and have never met any of his relatives. So I decided to see if I could find some family through 23 and me. I found not only cousins but also found five half siblings but most importantly I found out who my real father was. So the man I was told to believe that was my father and who passed away when I was 10 months old and who I have mourned for 63 years was not my dad. Unfortunately, the man who is my dad passed 5 years ago. I wish I had found him a lot earlier in my life. I also found out that my father is Palestinian. I am Hispanic! So now I am trying to peace together why my mother who was only 16 when she had me didn’t tell me about the possibility of me having a different father. According to my half siblings, my biological father never knew I existed but the resemblance speaks volumes about me being his daughter! ❤️🙏🏼

  • My wish

I am thoroughly enjoying my 23 and me subscription. My only wish is that there were a way for adopted adults like myself to have an ancestral tree for my adopted family AS WELL AS my biological family. As I get older…. I am no 62…. I am FINALLY finding out people within my biological family. While I already KNOW much about the family who adopted me…. This has given me such incredible insight into my own past…. I’ve learned much about their genetics that through and who I am actually “ linked” too! This is also great information for my sons and their future children! All my life when greeted by any medical staff with important questions about my genetics I’ve had to say that I was adopted and had ZERO IDEA about such things as familial cancer, heart disease, diabetes…..etc. You would be doing such a huge service to help all of us who may be finding later in life about our family genetics…. Every time I find another piece of information to my own past it’s truly a gift and such an exciting moment! I’ll always love and cherish my adopted family who have been so truly amazing my entire life…. But EVERY adopted child deserves to know where they came from!

  • So detailed

If you’re reading reviews to see whether you should get 23andMe Or AncestryDNA, I have both and can tell you 23andMe is wayyyy better. AncestryDNA only tells you about a country you may be from whereas 23andMe is very specific and they pinpoint several regions you have be from right down to the VILLAGE! 23 also told me about different characteristics I have and how much of of me is from pre human times. 23 also told me where my ancestors from the 1500’s came from before settling in the region which my mother was born in. Amazing experience with 23 and there’s so much more I’m forgetting to mention.

Update: 23andMe notified me of an auto immune disorder I might have. While I never thought this could be true for me, I woke up one day with psoriasis in my nail bed. After running tests with my doctor, I was told that I had psoriasis and Graves’ disease. There are a couple of other health findings I was given that are true and run in my family. Also cool updates on the “famous” people I share similar DNA with and many of them happened to be Vikings.

  • Interesting

Still unpacking the report, mind blowing for me, very good communication with 23andMe, detailed report, very accurate report and able to know the root of certain symptoms. Finding all interesting and wanting to know more about me and my wellness. I recommend this test for everyone.
  • Oma

I’m really happy with my report ancestry + health report ☺️ it matches the ancestry and some of the family health traits I have been aware of. It also shed light on other aspects of our family ancestry relative spoke about but had no way to confirm. Absolutely brilliant. Love how well it is presented and alll the background history made easily available to me.

  • Unethical and greedy

It’s just a matter of time when this unethical and greedy “business” ceases to exist. To anyone wondering why your premium fees went up, it’s because they had a data leak resulting in a class action law suit. First of all, I paid over $CA 100 for the test alone. Then I paid additional $CA 39.99 a year to access additional reports which was a rip off considering that I’ve already paid for my test and gave them my data so they can use it for further research and update and grow their database. Not only that there were maybe 2 reports that came out when I kept paying them the premium yearly fee. But when they emailed me saying that they’re going to increase the premium fee from $CA 39 to $CA 99 a year, I was stunned. THAT’S 250% INCREASE!!! Do they think people are stupid?! I’m sorry I’m not paying your legal fees and for not doing your due diligence to keep our data safe and secure. This entire “business” model is a scammy unethical practice that should be kept away from anything that has to do with a medical or scientific world and for sure away from our DNA. I own my health data and by any means should they be asking me for my money so I get a privilege of viewing my own data. Sure I’ll pay for the service of running the initial DNA test but nothing beyond it.

  • Really Disappointed ☹️

First, I’d like to say that I’m grateful you brought back the relatives in common list, but it’s still very hard for me to know who’s on my maternal or paternal side with a lot of matches. I bought a kit for my mother to test and she was willingly happy to do so up until she got to the health predisposition consent. She wasn’t comfortable having to consent to having her dna analyzed as far as her health is concerned and it gave her the option to consent or to not consent. She opted not to consent and it wouldn’t let her proceed with going forward with registering and doing her kit. I really think it’s pathetic that you make someone consent to the health portion to get their dna kit registered. This is where you company lags behind Ancestry as far as top notch features are concerned. Ancestry doesn’t need to have either parent test to get results of what ethnicity you get from them. 23andMe is way behind as far as I’m concerned. Have you ever taken into consideration that some parents don’t want to test? Or that maybe someone is adopted or the parents might be deceased? Your company needs to get up with the times and get better technology. Until then I won’t be recommending your company to family and friends. You don’t offer enough that people really want. You’re way to focused on the health than anything else. I can see why Ancestry is #1 in terms of a DNA company. Maybe you should take some hints.

  • Membership

I used to have the full membership that I liked but this year they more than doubled the annual price. Unacceptable.
  • Not as user friendly but informative

It wasn't as user friendly as I would have imagined. The family tree is difficult to see who's from where and doesn't let you fill in information of any deceased family that I've found so far. I'm really having to jump around to figure out what I'm looking at. There's also not much clarity on privacy. The verbiage on privacy settings is setup as if the user already uunderstands categories and how they work which I did not as a new user setting up before results. I'm adopted and was aiming for as much privacy as possible until I'm ready to possibly reach out or be visible to everyone. Finding new family is something I hope to enter into carefully and full thought. This is life changing and there doesn't seem to be much thought put into that portion. Otherwise, I've found it very informative and most of the dna markers of possible appearance and traits are very close to accurate. I'd recommend but maybe not if you're not sure if you're ready to be discovered by family in an adoption situation.
