  • Amazing when it actually works.

I have loved this app and almost thought it was too good to be true. Paid $70 for the year and now I can’t get through a single practice because the exercises refuse to pick up what I’m playing. I can play a perfectly tuned A chord and I’m setback or stuck for “not playing it right.” When it all works it’s amazing how it can really help push you. Right now I just want my money back because I’m “playing wrong” apparently. Using an 12 pro Max. No mic issues.

  • Great idea but flawed execution

I really like the idea of getting feedback on chords and rhythms while playing. However, The app does not always recognize when something is being played correctly. It gets stuck on repeatedly showing the same cord, and indicating a mistake. It is quite frustrating!
I plan to try it a couple of more days to see if the app learns. Otherwise, it will be unusable.

  • So impressed

I’ve taken the 7 day trial and find Uberchord to be extraordinary! It has brought me from true beginner to something more. It’s gamification interface motivates me to practice longer and harder to get the chords right and on tempo. I can’t live without this app,👍
  • Gentle Introduction and Great Content

I’m a complete guitar beginner, and this app has helped me go from the basics of playing chords to being able to comfortably strum the chords to several songs with varying rhythm patterns. The pacing of the lessons is very good, and the instant feedback is invaluable.
  • Frustratingly bad

You can’t back out of anything if you’re accidentally tap it. (There’s no back button or X button). You can’t look at anything without physically playing it on your guitar. (It will yell at you that it can’t hear you.)

Update: Reply to the offensive Developer Reply:
There is no pause button. Perhaps that’s a bug. But in general, the UI and UX are still pretty bad. I used it with my guitar yesterday, or attempted to. The note recognition is quite cool, but the UX is the worst of any app I’ve used. I’m a certified music teacher, have used thousands of apps, (over 370 on my phone right now) and I’d never recommend this to a student if I can’t even make it work myself.

Josh, apologies - we should not have assumed that things are working for you, simply because they are working for us. There should be a pause/exit option the moment you tap anywhere on the screen. If you cannot make it appear it’s a bug indeed.  After your initial frustration you might not want to give Uberchord another shot, but if you change your mind, please reach out to me and I’m happy to assist and figure it what’s wrong.  Also I’d love to hear your other feedback - with your experience as both music teacher and power user we have a great opportunity to make Uberchord (even) better. Shoot me a message to eckart@uberchord.com.  Best, Eckart (Co-Founder and CEO)
  • Helps me learn to play without looking

Just on the free version for now. Want to train myself not to look at fretboard. This helps because I don’t have to turn my head to verify I’m playing a note or chord correctly. Obviously I’m a beginner. With experience I hope to be able to do this by ear but in the meantime this helps.
  • Deleted Uberchord after 3 minutes

After the first time signing up, the first lesson is tuning. There is a tuner that uses a graphic of the strings and arrows show which direction, up or down, tighten or loosen the string and a moving tick line that indicates sharp or flat. The mic picks up the sound. The problem is the tuner does not wait until the string is tune accurately and skips to the next higher string. Something as basic as that should work flawlessly not just because they they put it right up front in your face the first time you use their app, but because it is a foreshadowing of problems to come. Now I will retune my guitar with my Korg, or Polytone. But I was interested in the app. Uberchord, needs to work the problem.

Hi J, sorry to hear that you had problems with our tuner. Normally, there should have been a circle in the middle that fills up when your string is in tune before it moves on to the next string. Wasn't this the case? Besides the "guided tuner" in the beginning, we also have another open tuner in the app that does not automatically jump to the next string. Maybe you want to give this a try. You can also reach us directly under support@uberchord.com. Best, Simon
  • UPDATE: Feedback Is Key

I have been using the app for a month now and if you are like me and want to know how you are doing with something you are learning, this is the app for you. I took some group lessons which was a big help, but this program has really upped my desire to practice which is the key to getting better at pretty much anything. Whatever gets your axe in your hands will help you get to where you want to be. I look forward to playing with this app and that is saying something if you knew me. Thanks to the developers.
UPDATE: I am now using a Rockband microphone with the apple camera adaptor and i think it helps with chord recognition issue.

  • Awesome way to learn guitar!

Wow! This app is incredible. I have been playing for about a week & I can already strum chords that sound recognizable. This is a game changer for me. Totally addictive & makes learning fun! My only regret is that I didn’t buy this app sooner!

    Thanks!
  • Look elsewhere

This app does not work with iPad Pro. Can’t tell the difference between E notes especially and take 20 to 30 seconds to register a chord strum. Checked levels on the an all was good so something is wrong with the note recognition. Couldn’t get past the Em first chord exercise could barely tune my guitar. Guitar tuna on my iPhone next to my ipad was able to pick up everything.

Hello Ernie, sorry to hear that you have problems with your setup. Let's solve this together. Can you please send me an email to support@uberchord.com. There are a few easy things that improve recognition when using an iPad Pro. For example to use a stand so that the mic is facing the guitar. I am happy to help. Thanks. Simon
