  • Definitely recommend

I have been trying to teach myself to play the guitar for about 6 months. I tried several different apps but this is the only one that actually taught me not only the chords but strumming and rhythm.
  • Newb, but having fun

I’m brand new to guitar. Figured the quarantine was better spent learning a new skill rather than just sitting around. The exercises so far have been easy and as long as I’m honest about whether I really nailed an exercise, nothing is ahead of my pace. I do wish there was more instruction on hand placement and finger placement, I had to look at outside sources to fix my left hand position but beyond that this has been a great app so far.

  • Uberchord Guitar Lessons

I am a 52 year old first timer to playing electric guitar. While I was trying to look for ways to learn, I came to realize I would want a very structured yet economical and on demand system. Uberchord has been good to me last 4 months. I am almost past “Beginner” and just started playing easy songs that comes with the program. PS. Apology to Ann Lennox for butchering her Sweet Dreams”. Will get better someday.

  • Issues with the microphone

I've used 2 iPad minis (4th and 5th gen), 1 iPad Pro (2019) and an iPhone 11 Pro Max with the app.

Using three different guitars and two different amps or no amp at all, the app consistently misidentifies notes played. I've been playing guitar for well over a year and have used the built-in tuner, a Boss tuner and Kliq clip on tuner, thinking that there was some issue with the tuning. The app's tuner is just not as precise as the others I use and wasn't sure if this contributed to its consistent misidentification of notes played. I've not found a combination that produces reliable results. The Eleanor Rigby lesson is a especially problematic with the E minor chord. Third fret G on the first string seems to ge reported a bunch for different chords.

My acoustic with the pick up unused and electric guitars produce the same problem for the same notes. I have a PRS Silver Sky and a Gibson Les Paul traditional and whether I use my thumb nail, no nail or guitar pick, I cannot get the chord. Using the cleanest tone on the amp with no effects, changing volume, etc. don't seem to have any effect.

The chord identification portion of the app is unreliable as well.

There's probably a specific type of acoustic setup that works okay with the app and I'm not sure what it is and don't really care.

Dear S.o.S, I am sorry to hear that you have problems with the chord and note recognition. For electric guitars, we highly recommend using an adapter like the iRig2 from IK Multimedia. It is inexpensive and you get nearly 100% accuracy. Acoustic guitars are normally recognized well (about 95% accuracy). However, the iPad Mini 4 and 5 are a bit too slow for the complex audio processing tasks. I would rather use the iPhone 11 Pro instead. If you want to give it another try and still have problems, you can always reach us at support@uberchord.com. We will happily help you to get everything up and running. We have a lot of happy users and I am sure that we can sort this out for your setup, too. Sorry again for the inconveniences. Simon (Uberchord co-founder)
  • Excellent for my beginner self!

I started playing guitar about 2 years ago and i was horrible at practicing regularly. For a variety of reasons i just sucked at it. Uberchord was just what i needed and since Christmas i think I’ve made a lot of progress in very little time. I sound like a commercial. I think you are the only paid product i have ever bought! Great stuff, keep it up, I’m at almost 100 pics now!!!! You have to earn pics in the various exercises to open up more advanced exercises. Great visualization with finger numbers on strings & frets. You can also slow down drills which is key when i hit a hard one.

The simple discipline of practice i needed of going between two chords, or more as i progress is what was missing from my lesson to lesson. Even at 5 stars this is under rated! Get started with the free parts and for me it was simple to buy it as i progressed and was for once excited to move forward. My set up for this is: Telecaster, cable to an iRig, iRig to iPad... iRig to Amp. I use an external Bluetooth speaker for output from the iPad (or iPhone) but use the mic in from the irig. So i had to buy a 2nd cable and iRig, but it can work with out that. Over Xmas i actually just went guitar to irig to iPad since i was at my in-laws. Also the chord finder is pretty cool as well.

  • No support option available, says your not playing the chord correctly even when you are

This app has a decent tutorial to get you started and convince you to spend your money, but a horrible mic for reading chords. I thought it was just me being the beginner that I am playing the notes wrong even though I am following the exact instructions on how to play a chord. Turns out my frustrations were real. I had a music teacher come over so i showed him the app. He had similar difficulties (not as bad as me I’ll admit), but when you play a chord the app doesn’t read it properly. This can leave you stuck on a particular level and frustrate you out of your mind. I am now out of the two week period to get my money back and I just learned that it’s not me, it’s the app. Anyway, still not sure how I would contact support as there is no option in the app. Maybe this review will entice them to make it easily available or at the very least to contact me. I would not recommend this app to any beginning to learn guitar

    Developer Response

Dear Evan, sorry to hear that you have problems with our app. You can always contact us at support@uberchord.com (there is also a support button in the app under settings). I am sure that we can figure out what the problem is with your setup and solve it together. There are some easy tips to get nearly perfect recognition. Please contact us so that we can sort this out. Thanks! Simon …and if you just want your money back, no questions asked. We are in for the music, not for the money.
  • Premium content is still locked

Hiding songs behind an a pseudo-XP meter is beyond frustrating for players who already possess moderate ability on the guitar. If I want to play a song, I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PLAY IT ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M PAYING.

EDIT: Thanks for the timely response devs. However, it's a little bit confusing since the most obvious thing I want to do is "play-along" which *IS* locked until you play the full song with 80% accuracy...

  • Provides a good structure to learn chords

Really like this application as it gives me a good learning structure (never taken lessons) to learn guitar chords. The app forces me to play the correct tempo, is a wicked task master for correct fingering, and is very intuitive. Only downside is the program “hears” every little mistake better than the human ear. Some chords, particularly barre chords, can be frustratingly difficult to play to UberChords satisfaction. Overall, in the absence of a guitar teacher, this is an excellent way to learn and measure your progress. I recommend this app

  • It Works

This app is absolutely phenomenal. I had never pocked up a guitar in my life. Im now 42 and learning to play. Ive been using this app for 2 months now and have learned so much. My family and I have noticed the progress and its all thanks to uberchord.

This app is easy to use and teaches you in a way thats fun and works through progression and repetition without being annoying.

I am not following along with songs. Learning new songs and loving every minute of it.

The app is affordable for what it does and os worth every penny.

Thank you for creating this app. Looking forward to making it to the very end and learning as many songs as possible from the library.

  • Trash and a RIPOFF

Even if you PAY, this stupid app won’t allow you to take the lessons you want, if you don’t earn enough “picks” first. The developer will give some bs response about learning in order - but a paying customer should be able to access ANY lesson they choose. It’s not YOUR call on what I am “ Ready” to learn!
Save your money and get a real teacher.
UPDATE - even if you pay 89 bucks - it STILL wont give you access if you dont do it in order. This is outright fraud.
