Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review, we're happy to hear that you love the app!

Needs work

I’ve tried to use this several times with my Apple Watch. I see they’ve tried to set up an interface with the water lock feature on the watch, but it isn’t clear to me how it works, or whether when I press Go, the app locks the watch or I need to do that ( I selected the lock feature in settings but got no feedback as to whether it was working in a particular instance). Also, when I pressed Go it didn’t, so that when I returned from my 20 minute paddle it hadn’t started, except that when I tried to close the app it said “activity ending” and locked into that message, so that after 30 minutes it was still telling me “activity ending”

Love this app

My wife and I have had paddlelogger since pretty much it’s inception and have always loved it. Yes there were early glitches of certain things between our Apple watches and phones (like when it would always give some ridiculous opening pace of 50km/hr to start a paddle off with, so your topo pic would be one long red line). But the improvements just keep coming, making it more intuitive and just plain fun to look back at the beautiful google earth pics of where you’ve been and what you did there. I don’t mind the new swipe pause feature but the button method worked even with gloves or wet cold hands. One last note. It would be really nice if you had a four or even six month membership for us people in the more northern climes where we get to paddle three maybe four months a year. All in all it’s a great app. Cheers

Thanks for your review and feedback. We are always working on new features or squashing bugs if they appear. Something we are looking at is an additional Sub in line with the season as we know not everyone can be on the water all year round! Thanks for your support!

Excellent app - Not just for SUP

I’ve been using Paddler Logger for a while now (600+Km) for my Surf Ski paddles and it is fantastic.

It not only does exactly what it says on the tin, the team were seemed really eager to help & super responsive when I encountered a small bug.

If you’ve got an Apple Watch, have a Surf Ski or Kayak and aren’t a fan of Garmin check this out.

EDIT Thanks for updating the review and we are glad you are loving the app! You will notice a heap of new updates since you first got in touch - fixing bugs and adding new features. Hope you enjoy! *Original* Hi there Matt. Thanks for getting in touch with your review. Paddle Logger on the Apple Watch has two settings. • Water Lock On - this is Apple’s Waterlock which we are unable to interfere with. Rotating the screen ‘unlocks’ the screen to pause a trip. • Water Lock Off - this turns off Apple’s Waterlock in favour of our own. This still locks the screen from water droplets but rotating the crown not only unlocks the screen but automatically pauses the trip. Meaning you can move and sort your equipment out before ending the trip with dry hands! • I hope this helps - it is in our Help documentation in more detail (https://paddle-logger-ltd.helpscoutdocs.com/article/28-apple-watch-waterlock) but we will endeavour to make it more obvious in the UI! Thanks! Do get in touch direct with further queries as we will pick them up faster!

PiT

I have been using Paddle Logger for some time. It has issues but all-in-all it was a good app ... until a few days ago. I was on the water and ready to take off. I hit Start. A message came up to enter a PiT contact. There was no way to bypass or delay this requirement! I tried going back to start several times. The message kept coming up. It would not let me proceed without filling out a PiT contact. I did not have my reading glasses so I couldn’t have filled out the PiT contact even if I wanted to! I could not use the app that day! I had an app I use for walking so I changed to that app and was able to record the data; otherwise I would have lost the data for that day. I am so appalled by this requirement to fill in data before I could continue to use the app on so many levels that it’s hard to know where to start, so I’ll simply end. I will not be using this app again. I also would caution anyone considering buying this app that unless you don’t mind mandatory, intrusive and unwarranted data collection in an app you are charged for, you are better off using another of the exercise apps. Several that are designed for bicycling or walking can also be used for paddling and rowing.

Edit** Hi again, thanks for getting in contact. I wanted to explain a few things regarding PiT. Paddler in Trouble is a safety service that sends a message to a contact on your behalf should you get into difficulty on the water. It is not mandatory. It is part of our Pro package and you are able to turn it off on the home page of the app if it is a service you do not wish to use. The bar above the taskbar at the bottom of the screen on the start page is the PiT bar. The left hand toggle says Off. Just make sure it is set to off and you will be good to go. With it switched off, you will not be asked to enter details as it requires at least one designated emergency contact. If you have a concern. I will though reiterate we have no interest in your personal details, numbers are anonymous and automated in a way we are unable to access them. I hope that alays any fears, do get in touch if you have any other queries, thanks, David ** Hi Capt M14, Love your suggestions. That is something we could do to improve the image taking capability of the app. Especially for wildlife spotting! Regarding the pause issue, get that it may be better to have a hold to pause. When you say that you may have knocked it, do remember that the app will still track when the screen is locked - which will mitigate any accidental pausing. Please do keep an eye out for your suggestions in the future!! Cheers, David

Great app!

We use this app to track our kayaking in Florida. Great way to track where we’ve gone and what we’ve done. We have had a couple of issues with the app but the customer support has been unbelievable. They get back within hours and fix the issue. I only wish I could’ve had customer support like this from the IT folks at work! Great app and great service, what more could you ask for?

Awesome app!

Used for first time today. I like the delay start...easy to adjust. Worked perfectly with my watch and fed data into my ”rings”. I can see the map of my trip in both apps easily. Took me a minute to figure out how to stop my trip- coordinating the water release on my Apple Watch and then the app, but it was fine once I figured it out. Great little app!

Elle

Just downloaded this App. As a new paddler think it was just what I was looking for.
Disappointed that I don’t have access to Satellite view of paddles route without paying yet more money?
Paid out in excess of $800 for Apple Watch & have free access to Satellite with that but you require a payment of $6.50 per month for that access via your App!
Happy to be corrected if I’ve got it wrong???

Hi there, thanks for leaving a review. It really does help us build a better product for everyone. Hopefully you will find Paddle Logger a useful tool out on the water. Yes on the free version you are able to use your new Apple Watch for tracking and see your Heart Rate, Distance etc. As well as view your trip in detail on a trip map and share with your friends etc. Unfortunately we do require an income to continue to provide the service and customer support, so some additional features are behind a small subscription fee, (this is further discounted at an Annual fee). The full details of which are laid out in the App Store description. We brought in the free version to lower the barrier to get people used to enriching their paddle experience simply and easily with a mobile phone. The paid features then allow you to get more technical insight into your paddling. If you have any further questions please do contact us within the app and we can help you out! Thanks.

Like it lots - Update: Bug

New: first, thanks for the new A-watch interface update, much better. But since then, my paddles have not been recorded properly in the Apple workout app. Case in point, today a 7+ mile paddle was recorded as 3.5 miles, although it showed up correctly on the PL app itself. This is the third consecutive time. Please fix. Thanks

Old: Kudos to the developer. Been SUPing for about ten years and this app does a nice job in capturing our little jaunts. But I think the Apple Watch interface is a bit clunky and not all that intuitive, and the thought of spending $4/mo. for the premium version is ludicrous to us. Of course I have no knowledge of the actual demand curve, but I’m pretty sure if there was a one-time charge of $9.99, or MAYBE a .99/mo. fee, his cash flow would increase significantly. Just a thought. And thanks again for an excellent app.

Hi there, thanks for your kind words! We will take your comments about pricing on board, it is probably worth noting as well that an Annual Subscription is a significant discount month on month when compared to the Monthly Subscription. Do get in touch if you have any other queries! Thanks UPDATE: thanks for the message about the potential bug, if you could contact us in app it would be really useful to start a conversation and help more easily! Thanks!

Perfect app for paddling sports

This app gives paddlers the perfect extension to the Apple watch and iOS activity tracker and more! It integrates seamlessly into your activity with the bonus of showing max and average speed. I love looking at the satellite view of my trips and seeing how far I went. It's the perfect app for any paddle sport. I use it for surfski and sup. With the latest release, you can go even further without running down your watch battery. Big thumbs up!
