  • Good crossword game

I've tried a few crossword apps and this one is my favorite. The controls are intuitive, the number one thing I look for in a crossword game. I love that the games are by different authors so that you get varied "flavors" of games. I don't play this a lot but there's enough puzzles to keep me occupied for years and years! There are some ads, yes, but so far I've found that they only appear when you are in the menu system, and I've never had ads interrupt when solving. Nice! I understand that the devs need to do some ads to make money, so I love how they do it while you are not involved in a puzzle! Nice!
I do recommended this very well done app for crossword fans!

  • Grammar

Some of the worst spelling you can imagine, you would almost think that a kindergarten class put the puzzle together
  • Frequent crashes upon opening

Overall good app. However, I’ve recently noticed that the app often crashes immediately when I open it (as in: I tap the app icon on my home screen to open it, the splash screen comes up for about half a second, and then the app immediately crashes and I’m sent back to my home screen). When this happens, nothing I do seems to help (tried force quitting the app and force quitting all other apps on my phone), but the problem is inconsistent. Once I was playing in airplane mode, and when the plane I was on landed, I turned off airplane mode (without exiting the app), and the app immediately crashed. Subsequent attempts to open the app also resulted in immediate crashes. Not sure if airplane mode is actually related to this bug.

  • Good for a free app

There’s a massive selection of puzzles ranging from very easy to very hard, all for free, which is great-but typically when you go for that kind of quantity, quality suffers. For example:

1: there’s a distinct feeling that the writers tried way too hard to make a lot of the clues clever, ending up with some pretty big stretches

2: there are very slightly reworded, or just plain copied and pasted clues and solutions from puzzle to puzzle

3: some of the solutions. Some of them aren’t even a thing. I just finished a puzzle in which one of the clues was something like ‘storage spaces in a designated dancing area (2 wds),’ and the solution was ‘ballroom closets.’ Come on guys.

4: there’s not really an increase in the difficulty of the clues from medium to hard to very hard-the only real differences I saw in those levels of difficulty were how far you had to stretch to make the clues work

Overall execution of the app is great-simple, streamlined, there’s visual and audible feedback when you get a word right, etc. But I’ll be looking for another crossword app for sure.

  • Too Americanised

Actually this is quite enjoyable but there are some very very iffy clues and it’s too Americanised for me to really get into
  • Nope.

Deleted the app due to racial slurs in some of the puzzles.
  • What???

I am not in any way a religious scholar, but I have to cry foul on the clue “Hindus”. The answer is Sikhs. A Sikh is not a Hindu. In no way, according to the Google.
  • Crashing

Please please fix this. This is my favourite app to use on my long commute. It will stay open for a little bit and then crash. Never had a problem with it before the update.
  • Repetition, spelling errors, and lack of creativity

Don’t get me wrong, i enjoy using this application and it’s great for passing time. However, repeating hints/answers are very frequently found throughout the entirety of all puzzle sets, regardless of author. (e.g coastal raptor- Erne, formerly Tokyo- Edo, OJ trail judge- Ito, European language- Urdu, etc, the list goes on and on.)

How is it that newspaper crossword authors can churn out new and totally original crosswords every single day of the week, and in increasing difficulty, without any repeats, yet the authors of this app can’t seem to make original crossword puzzles without the extreme time constraints as the former?

Also, there’s no apparent way for users to report the numerous spelling errors encountered while using the app which was initially what compelled me to write this review.

Please consider hiring different individuals to create your crosswords and please stop using hints and answers that have been used well over a dozen times in previous crosswords, particularly those in the same set. There’s no sense of creativity or professionalism in using your app considering you all fill writer’s-block gaps with overused hints, taking the easy, cheap way out.

  • No landscape view option

That’s criminal. Had to delete the app before trying it properly.
