Love this app! But I have a request…

I would love if on the app we could choose a different notification tone, either from a variety of different sounds or from the tones I already have on my phone. It’s not enough to hear the classic discord noise from my phone, I think it works for pc but as a phone sound it’s not noticeable enough and if I could make it something more peppy or something that actually disrupts what I’m doing so that I go “Oh what’s that?” It would make it easier to keep in touch with people. Discord has become my main messaging app now, (rip fb messenger) so it’s becoming increasingly annoying for me when the gentle bloop of a message comes through because it just goes in one ear and out the other. Let me make it as annoying as I need! Also if different notifications could be used for different servers that would be great, so that the ones i don’t need to check right away can stay calm and soothing and the ones i do need to check urgently can scare the alights out of me and make me check it right away. Thanks if you read this and take this into consideration. Love the app! xx

The Continuation of these decisions will ruin Discord.

I cannot begin to express how much I love, enjoy and appreciate discord, the app is amazing in every way, it’s useful and easy to access, a good way of being social and finding friends whether in general or on the gaming side of things, I’m in a community that I couldn’t be more thankful and grateful to be apart of. Here is the annoyance of discord, NITRO! Every business, every employee, every customer, every user understands the need for a subscription, it helps supports the business and makes it easier for everyone (in some cases) I do not kind the advertising of the subscription, what annoys me is that it limits features to the point where there’s no choice but to buy nitro, I don’t want to. The pricing is ridiculous. But I understand the point in doing it, the really frustrating part is that I can send ONE photo that’s the size of 10MB that is beyond ridiculous, there is no reason for it, I can’t send a good quality photo or video showing off my skills in the work of art unless it’s 10MB or less, by all means have a subscription, but don’t take away from the foundation that is discord. Charge people for profile customisation, boosting a server, but don’t lock key features behind a paywall, that’s just ridiculous.

Other than that, the app is flawless.

Terrible Customer Service

(4 Years on discord) The app overall is pretty decent. However, I purchased nitro a month ago and recently sold my laptop. I was trying to cancel my subscription but could not do so due to only being able to cancel the subscription on the device you paid for it on. So due to this I was charged an extra months subscription. I contacted the team asking for a refund and they cannot do a single thing due to a stupid “one time refund” policy meaning they only refund you once on an account. Which makes no sense because people hold their discord accounts for years upon years. I explained to them how I have recently been a victim to identity theft and my details have been passed to multiple different companies but they didn’t take it into account. Overall I find it pathetic it is so difficult to get a refund for an overpriced service which I didn’t even use or want and the fact it was such an effort to cancel is an issue in its self. The app is really good but the team is not. (I don’t often leave reviews if ever but this really annoyed me due to how long I have been using the app for).

New Ui

I hate this new tedious member list making me have to hit search than members just to DM someone if I need to about something since I’m not going to friend every single person I’m going to talk to and I’ll most likely keep forgetting how to access the new members list since I used the old right scroll for multiple years. Why when I turn off the new Ui tab swiping left on right side of the screen that use to be the members list that I don’t care about anyways or the new stupid reply feature when holding a message worked perfectly fine not just go back to the side scroll for the members list when turned off? It was way faster and made Dming someone super easy now it just annoying and takes me longer for no reason. Also checking to see if a certain person is online or busy on discord became more effort to potentially converse with someone. Let me have the option to view server members by scrolling to the right like before on mobile even if you put it in the settings or something.
The so called help link you sent is straight garbage and saying “it’ll take some getting use to” when the old UI has been thrown away by you guys. I absolutely hate this new UI and would rather have the old UI that seemed to be better in nearly every way in my experience. You had a great UI before and this new one makes me want to use any other messaging app even after using discord for 7 years.

Good app

Discord is a versatile communication platform that excels in fostering community and collaboration. Its combination of text, voice, and video chat features allows users to connect in various ways, whether through casual conversations or organized meetings. The app supports creating and managing multiple servers, which can be tailored with channels and roles to suit different interests or projects. Additionally, Discord integrates with various bots and tools to enhance functionality, making it a robust choice for gaming groups, study communities, or professional teams. Its user-friendly interface and strong focus on community-building make it an excellent choice for diverse communication needs. With these pros, though comes multiple flaws and downsides including latency problems, lack of more free servers, and voice chat system being flawed. With the latency issues, discord can be at times frustrating for its customers. Many times have I lagged while on call with companions. Further more, the calling and voice chat system has experienced multiple flaws throughout its history. Some of these include poor audio quality, lag in voices/ static voice, and the occasional kicking out of voice chats. Finally, the freedom of customers has been restrained by the devs ever since the beginning of this apps creation.

Still missing needed features

Months after the UI update, many features are still missing. Swiping right to left in a chat to open the member list still is missing, and an experiment appears to show they want that to function as some kind of search, rather than be at parity with how discord works on desktop and mobile web. Compact mode doesn’t exist in the app, making tons of unused space and large profile icons, when on desktop and mobile web you can focus on whats important; the actual messages. There is no theme as far as i can tell that uses the same coloration as desktop and mobile web; instead of the iconic greys, theres light, black, and amoled black. The text input remains tiny with multiple unused buttons that could be folded into the “+” menu already on the bar. The ui has made some improvements, like servers being in a column like on desktop and mobile web, but hasnt come as far as one would expect after several months of feedback. Besides loading faster than mobile web, i cant see any benefit to using the app at this point.
Edit after response: a link to a help page explaining basic features of the new UI doesn’t address any of the missing features and functions i talked about in my review. Feels like a boilerplate response after reading “UI” four words in, instead of reading the actual feedback. Would appreciate an actual acknowledgement of the feedback.

new is not always better

been on discord for a long while; the new UI is terrible. What happened? For the sake of the future? for improvements? It's like you took a nail file to the old UI and did away with the good and left a discord with rounded edges--as if it's being baby-proofed or something.
having to swipe to navigate isn't intuitive at all, and with the UI, you cannot scroll through the channels while also looking at what the chat you're currently in is saying. Just how long are the channel names that you need to dedicate 80% of the screen to them?
i get that you guys are firm on wanting the new UI to stay to represent you better, but a legacy version or something would be very appreciated.

Used to be better

I am going to say this off the bat, discords desktop app is great and I have, thus far, no complaints. The mobile app is a different story. Things started going downhill when swiping to the left stopped showing server members. It’s been years and I have yet to unlearn the muscle memory from this switch. Now swiping left allows you to reply to messages (when you can just type in the chat but idk). Now you have to tap on the text channel you’re in to view the server members.

Now text chat is almost unusable. Being told that multiple messages haven’t been posted when they are obviously visible when views in desktop. Seeing duplicates of the same post after you delete the “message couldn’t be posted” prompt. Those same prompts moving to the bottom of the chat each time I open the app so I have to scroll up to view new messages. It’s slowly becoming a nightmare to keep tabs on the servers I’m active in when I’m away from my pc. I don’t care about SpongeBob skins I have to pay for (I have nitro btw) when your mobile app is a broken mess that gets worse with each update. If I hadn’t built my friend groups around discord during covid I would’ve moved apps by now.

On an unrelated note, tying number of soundboard sounds to server boosts is dumb. If I want more sounds in my server, I shouldn’t need to be popular or have rich friends.

I love it POOKIES🤘🤘🤘

This is not a bot btw I love discord because I can talk to my friends and join and make servers with my friends or YouTubers or anyone really I can also join study groups and clubs so you can use it for your own personal use or your school work. I would Definitely recommend this app for young adults or teens because it might or can be an unsafe platform for young kids but I have not seen anything unsafe or something like that. If you do let a young kid on here please make sure to supervise them and protect them from anything that can come up because just remember it’s an online app! So in my opinion I would recommend discord to 12+ people and I know it says that it is a 17+ app but my 12 and 15 kids have it and they seem to love it and like I said before I have not seen anything bad or unsafe I just putting it out there that it might and can occur. I hope this helps 👍⭐️

you should read this

okay so i don’t usually do reviews as most games are rubbish and aren’t worth my time, but this app, is amazing! yes it’s 17+ but it’s suitable for younger ages from 12 in my opinion Common Sense Media also recommends that Discord users be at least 13 due to its open chat. Because it's all user-generated, there's the potential for plenty of inappropriate content, like swearing and graphic language and images (though it's entirely possible to belong to a group that forbids these). now anyone can add you, but just close the dm, it’s good for trading apps, values, groups, codes and lost more! i recommend it for people who would love calling and texting there friends With its inclusive nature, Discord allows users to connect with others, find creative communities, network, and create a sense of community through feedback requests and support channels.
