  • Works but the bullies aren’t worth it

I really liked this app. I’ve enjoyed it and it helps. However, the players can be very toxic when it comes to parties. Recently I was bullied out of a party for not wanting to join a challenge due to my mental health. I can’t believe the things people will say to you in an app about self improvement (kys). Without the parties, this app is great but people are so cruel that my experience has spoiled the whole thing and now I just get upset when I open the app.
Developers response: I submitted a report every time. There are several different locations to do so so it’s very confusing. You also cannot flag on iOS and can’t report a chat once you’ve been removed. I submitted a fully detailed report to the suggested email and received a two sentence response saying we’re looking into it. Thanks. Lack lustre response. It doesn’t matter if I report. Nothing changes. And it doesn’t matter if I form my own party because you cannot tell how someone will behave before adding them to your party. It’s not a habit app. It’s a game. And the player base can be toxic despite what the developer says. I have screenshots that were never responded to. No support. I’m not using the app anymore. It just makes me sad. Back to paper and pen it is.

Hi there! So sorry to hear about your experience with members of a particular party. Not all parties or Habiticans act this way, and you should always feel free to join or not join any challenges you want. We would love to hear more from you about this, if you're able and willing to share. Please reach out to us at admin@habitica.com. We hope you are able to enjoy adventuring on your own. Or you could start your own party and set the tone yourself.
  • Good task management, nothing motivating

If you were already planning to disrupt your life to build new habits and manage productivity, this is essentially a planner pretending to be a game. Could be fun. But it’s not enough to be a breakthrough solution for those of us who really need something different that works.

Back when I tried this app 10 years ago it had a social aspect where you could do challenges with other app users and discuss on in-app forums. Now at a time when I am really down to build new habits and stick to something, there is nothing actually motivating about using this app. Maybe if you’re a Cookie Clicker type and seeing the number of levels go up is enough for you, this will work. But there’s no social aspect and no unlocking of cool items—everything cool is behind microtransactions. Sure, you can earn rewards and customize a reward for your real life like watching TV. But I’m assuming I’m like most people this app is targeted for, who has little issue watching TV without feeling like I’ve “earned” it.

Thanks for trying Habitica out. Sorry to hear it isn't what you're looking for right now in a productivity app. We appreciate your feedback and will keep it in mind as we continue to improve Habitica.
  • ADHD busted!

This game has been AMAZING for helping me overcome my daily neurodivergence challenges - always knowing what exactly I need to do next, how difficult / rewarding it will be and participating in quests with friends forces me to actually check in every day & check off my dailies!! Thank you so much for making this app!! I’ve tried everything prior to this - lists, planners, reminders - but the dopamine rewards of the satisfaction of seeing my streams, checking things off etc are so useful. My only note to developers is that at first I felt very lost, confused by to-dos vs dailies vs habits, and couldn’t figure out how to activate my skills to help my party. More of an in-depth guide or tutorial would have been great. I had to go through the wiki to learn how to really utilize this app - so maybe sending that to new users / having them go through it would be a good way to fix that. I got my brother & friends to join and they also got very overwhelmed at first & kept asking me how to do stuff. Other than that, stellar! 10/10

  • Did not live up to the hype

This was fun at the beginning, but it gets old quick because you are so limited in what you can do. You have to pay for a monthly subscription to even buy gems with the gold coins you win, and you have to pay to be on a team and complete quests with a party. There is not much merch to purchase with your gold, so once you buy all the weapons and whatnot, you just kind of stall out until they drop more stuff which is rarely…like 4 times a year. Also they limit the number of gems you can buy with gold to 20 a month and so you just kind of have to sit around collecting way too much gold (I’m over 1,000) with literally nothing to spend it on.
You can buy seasonal merch but it does nothing…so I guess it’s a good game for people who like hoarding?
There needs to be more to this app. It’s like they thought of a good premise but just never actually took it where it could go. You just kind of have an avatar that you can dress and you win imaginary gold that just piles up…cool? The pets and mounts don’t do anything and there is no action. Not sure what we are supposed to be paying for with a subscription. Needs story and actual interactive content. Pointless after about a month. Very disappointed.

I had such high hopes but my honest review is that this is just not worth it. Needs more design and content.

Thanks for giving Habitica a try and leaving an honest review. Sorry it isn't what you're looking for at this time. We did want to point out that you can join a party without being a subscriber. All items that can be obtained with gems are cosmetic, and quests can be shared with partymates. There are also a number of ways to earn gems without using money—you can read more about them here: https://habitica.fandom.com/wiki/Gems#Obtaining_Gems_for_Free
  • exactly what you need to start setting and tracking your goals!

This app is awesome you guys! I’m earning points like crazy, and I’ve put a goal for myself – – even though you can actually get gems and articles to go on your little dude – – I chose the reward I want so (you can customize it)and I’m doing it!! I’m doing what I’m supposed to do. It’s fun to go in and check it off and hear it make noises and give you points! I highly recommend if you don’t have a habit of setting goals (your three things a day) that you go in and you start with at least three things you can delete what they have by swiping the left or you can stick with what they have and there’s habits, daily, and Projects basically three different categories you can set up! There are so many different things you can do to customize this to fit your schedule and your needs you can make one for Budget. You can make one for Goals or Projects. The only thing negative is that it’s a little messy and difficult to navigate; or I would’ve given it five stars. If they could clean it up a little bit, make the tabs to the different categories either up on top or larger and give a better understanding of points and how they were awarded it would be perfect ( and he's I went through the tutorials). But it's really awesome as is!!

  • Productivity disguised as a game

I’m in my mid 20’s and got into a mental slump when the pandemic hit and I was working a job that drained every ounce of life that I could give. The only way I could recharge was spending time with my friends, so that was all I wanted to do.

Since then I’ve gotten married, moved jobs twice to something that I now love more than anything, gotten 2 cats and a new, bigger apartment. But I still find myself in that mental slump of 0 motivation to do anything but be with people.

This app, this game, gave me real-time rewards for doing the mundane, rather than having to wait and see if or when my wife would thank me for doing the dishes or taking out the trash as needed. I had habits that I wanted to break (such as setting repeat alarms or getting back into bed after turning off my alarm and potentially falling back asleep). I wanted to do daily chores to try and get rid of the cockroaches that started to infest our apartment, as of 2 weeks ago, they’re all but gone. This app works if you find fulfillment in being rewarded for doing things, mundane things. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to restart and have a valuable tool to do so

  • Helped get us back into getting things done

I’m a college student, and it’s sometimes difficult to get chores and daily tasks done with assignments and stress. My friend introduced this app to our friend group, and we’ve all benefitted from using it.

Many of them have commented that the To-do list style makes it easy to get stuff done, and the rewards motivate them to keep on top of their tasks. I personally use it to keep track of my meds and making sure I get my chores done in a timely fashion. We really enjoy doing quests as a party, and collecting pets. For the most part, it works for us.

Something that I’d love to see is the ability to trade items between party members. One of my friends has a lot of potions, while the other has too many eggs. It would be great if we could trade among the party and help eachother out along the way.

  • Helping me improve myself

I don’t have very good memory so I find this app helpful for organizing the things I need to do, while also having neat light rpg mechanics. (you can set a task to be daily, weekly, or monthly) It’s quite fun watching your character grow and unlock new gear and pets. There are quests you can do and when you work on your personal goals your avatar will progress in their quest. (you can also invite friends to join you on the quests) The dialogue in the game is quite charming as it mixes fantasy with self improvement.( ie having a quest where you fight a horde of dust bunnies or a Loch Ness monster with a leftover pizza box as a head) I’m also happy to say that there is no annoying ad spam or pressure for micro transactions.

  • Never felt more motivated to wash the dishes

Short version: it seriously motivated me to start doing things, so give it a try. Long version: So I first downloaded this app thinking it was just a cute little way to track my to-do lists and habits I either want to start / stop, but once I got to searching through all the capabilities and features like challenges, guilds, parties and the character customization you can do, I actually was so invested in not only the app, but actually checking things off my lists! It utilizes in the dopamine rush that social media notoriously gives you from the pretty colors and notifications- but in the best possible way. I laid down for a nap today but couldn’t even fall asleep because I was thinking about all the habits I wanted to add to habitica so that I could start checking them off. I’ve always struggled with procrastination and sticking to habits, so I am extremely excited for the motivation this app has given me in just the first day!! 10/10, would recommend, much motivation, very nice

  • Great habit tracker!

I really enjoy this app, it keeps me on top of everything I need to do in a fun way. There’s a really strong community in the game that’s open to everyone. Most people I’ve met have been very encouraging and helpful towards in game and real life goals.

I would like to see an option being added. If you complete random accomplishments you can get rewarded for it even if it’s not a habit or an already existing task. For example, taking out the trash or loading the dishwasher even though it’s not an objective, you still completed it and could earn in game rewards. Maybe an extra button in the daily’s side for Miscellaneous or “side objectives” just click it every time you do a bonus chore and get instant rewards.
