  • Wonderful App!

I love Habitica! I have used this service off and on since it was created, but recently I have started using Habitica every day. I love the separation between Habits, To Dos, and Dailies, as well as the gentle character customization and the inclusion of a place to converse with other players.

I have encountered bugs where my items will not be checked off until I do it a few times, or the app will lag when putting a new item. That is the reason for my Four Stars instead of Five. Also, I would really like if we could tag each task under a category, and be able to track that tag with the tasks we did. I think it would be nice to see how many times I checked “Clean my room” and not just as part of a streak.

Overall, this app is a great way to keep track of your to-dos. Its interface is simple but effective, and works well for people who enjoy a bit of fun even among the mundane. This is not a full “game,” for anyone confused, but adds an entertainment factor, as well as a rewarding one, for those looking to be more productive. I have tried many productivity apps, and this is the one I consistently remember and come back to. Thank you for making this app!

  • For those of us who need a little extra nudge of motivation.

This game is it. It’s adorable and easy to use. So your chores or projects or just daily habits you want to make routine are rewarded instantly. (You know us millennials with our instant gratification)
You might one day go for a run and pick up an egg! Panda, wolf, dragon? You may stumble upon a quest to complete with your friends, or you can just hack away at your own habits; either way it’s a great idea.
This app has helped me immensely. I’ve always wanted to have a routine because humans are generally happier when they follow one. I just couldn’t force myself to do things like get out of bed before 9 or brushing my hair or doing my school work.
I have moderate to severe depression which makes day to day habits that most people do without thinking a lot more difficult for me. Even things like just driving to the pharmacy to get my anti depressants. So if I find something difficult, I put it in my habitica list and it gives me an extra nudge of motivation.
    Five stars for sure.

  • This is what I was looking for!

When the new year rolled around, I had so many areas of my life that needed improvement that I felt overwhelmed committing to a bunch of New Year's resolutions that I didn't have discipline to keep. I realized I needed accountability and a rewards system, so I started my own on a wall calendar with tally marks...when lo and behold, my coworker alerted me to the existence of Habitica! This app is perfect for me as a social gamer and a self-improvement fiend. My friends jumped in, and the group motivation to check off our individual habits and to-dos is higher than it could ever be. It's like that African proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone...if you want to go far, go together."

If I could make Habitica even better, I'd iron out the bugs (the entire rewards page disappears when I add a new reward, the app crashes for me at least once a day, and sometimes it takes awhile for habits to respond). Also be careful when you're switching between desktop and mobile to make sure the changes you made on either one take effect. But I think this app is doing a great job overall, and if they're committed to the principle of self-improvement that they're purposed for, it could be even more amazing!

  • Great idea. Need FIXES and UPDATES.

I’m a huge fan of retro style RPG. In fact, I want my life to feel like an RPG game and that’s why I like Habitica and use it. But the mobile app has many problems with execution and overall smoothness. The sync doesn’t work well sometimes. The web version works smoother so I use it but it’s much more convenient to use it on a phone screen. Also, the content amount is rich but the UI and smoothness needs more work. Adding more animations might be a good idea. So I really hope the developers won’t neglect these major weaknesses and tend to them ASAP. I have used Habitica for a long time and I will keep using it. But without updates for smoother and more satisfying user interface/experience, it isn’t likely to happen.
I wish the best of luck and success for the development team.

  • Honestly changed my life

I have MADD, and the mental illness had practically taken over my whole life. I never got anything done, and I felt my life slipping away a bit. Then I saw this app begging recommended on Tumblr by people who suffered with ADHD; saying it helped them a lot. I don’t believe I have ADHD, but I am video game motivated; so I thought I’d give it a shot. Best. Decision. Of. My. Life!
I have only been using this app for about a month or two, but I already feel my whole life back on track! I feel motivated, productive, and I’m finally getting around to doing all the things I always wanted to do (but never was able to because of my MADD).
This app isn’t for everyone. I would readily admit that. It’s also very simple and basic. I understand some people’s complaints. However, if you have trouble being productive like me, and like video games, I say give it a shot. You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain!

  • Buggy software

I love the idea behind this app and in theory it would probably be one of my favourite apps, but the software is really buggy. The app keeps freezing and crashing it doesn’t ask if I’d completed my daily tasks until the second time I open the app that day, leading to me logging tasks that I’ve done today as ones I’ve done yesterday. It also takes a while to register the fact that I’ve logged a habit. Another improvement I’d suggest is adding the ability to go on quests on your own or with NPCs for those of us who don’t have people to play with. All in all, if they manage to fix the software issues I’ll give this app five stars because it really does deserve it. I personally wouldn’t mind paying for an improved version of this app if that’s what it takes to fix the software.

  • Amazing App Gets Better!

I downloaded this on a lark, with great cynicism, when it was recently featured in the App Store.

While other reviews are fairly negative, I’d like to point out the following:

    - This is an intuitive and *100% free* to play task and personal organization app.

    - Gamification of daily tasks, habits, and to-do’s is decently executed, with regular updates making the app better all of the time.

    - Development is ongoing and the Dev team seems to value user feedback a lot!

Bottom line for my 5-star rating is that I’ve paid a LOT to crawl through the bitter disappointment of the App Store’s organizational app category. This free app blows that all away and has helped me enact my personal time management goals. I’ve roped in most of my family already and it’s been great for managing house chore lists - we are just getting in to quests, which are a really neat incentive!

As someone with ADHD this is huge, so I highly suggest this for Neurodiverse folks - it’s free so there’s nothing to lose.

TLDR; download this and give developers your feedback if you have complaints - otherwise it’s free, intuitive, and effective.

  • I love it! Despite a few bugs here and there

I personally love this app. Yes, there are a few bits here and there that are a little buggy, but ultimately it helps me stay motivated to actually make something of my days and keep me from falling into a pit of laziness and self-loathing.

One thing that I would love to see in the future would be an Apple Watch version that allows me to just look at the habits, dailies, and todo lists and be able to check them off as I go, instead of having to pull my phone out every time I do something. Of course I understand limitations with development and won’t be upset if this doesn’t happen.

I highly recommend this app if you like making your regular and irregular tasks fun, like being rewarded for each task completed (no matter how small they are), and want to join a community that is overall very supportive of each other.

  • Fun way to be more productive and healthy

    Hi
I was looking for another way to do my todo list and stumbled upon Habitica. As a gamer, I was drawn to its 90’s RPG like feel. It makes me feel like I’m living out the game of life and earning points while doing it. The layout is nice, I really like the reward system and the wiki is very helpful. It’s an entertaining alternative to the ho-hum todo list apps out there.

That said, there are a few issues that might reduce a person’s productivity. For example, the app is slow sometimes and it takes a while to display current information. If you are not careful you can enter the wrong information. There is an issue with the checklist under the dailies section, it won’t delete so you have to delete the entire task if you want to get rid of a checklist item.

  • The good and the bad

Good: has really helped me want to complete goals. Even when I procrastinate, now I do it by completing my less intimidating goals.

Bad: I shouldn’t be required to connect to the internet for my habits, dailies, to-dos, rewards, etc. Only the social stuff needs internet, and I have absolutely no interest in the social stuff. Maybe just give a brief warning “Your guild (or whatever social thingy) needs internet to connect/count!”

Buggy: I need to refresh the page several times for some dailies and other goals to show up. Not only only that, but my habits are displaying multiples over new goals. For example: I add a habit that says “Read a book” but when I refresh to make it show up I have two habits that say “Floss.” Clicking shows which habit each really is, but refreshing simply jumbles everything up further, For example creating two “Read a book” (covering 10 minutes of Cardio) and leaving Floss alone.
