  • Great idea, terrible execution and support

I love the idea of having an rpg life style. The app itself has great potential, only issue is it is buggy and very clunky. There would be many times where my app freezes or if I am in a party, it would say you can create a new party (my party name is still there...). Additionally I thought ok maybe the next version would be better and decided to support the devs with a purchase of gems. The purchase was successful, only thing is I got no gems... when I spoke with their devs and support it took two whole days for them to say “we are working on a fix”, no timeline, my cash already in their wallet. Until they get their app stable and their customer support to a higher quality I don’t think I’ll be supporting habitica.

Additionally for those of you thinking about contributing to habitica to win some free gems, the process either involves you coding for them which is fine minus the extremely slow feedback and long iteration cycles or doing some writing/drawing. For the latter you won’t be awarded for contributing until you earn enough points on another system to be considered. (I have to win virtual currency with another virtual currency???)

    Just think about it.

  • Does so much!

I am so bad at getting things done once the day gets busy, but this app helps me work on habits and to-dos in a fun way. I love that it also gives you a chance to check off dailies you forgot from the day before, when you first open it in the morning. And to me one of the best dailies is the one that says “wrote 3-5 to-do’s for tomorrow” - that one gets my next day off to a good start before bed! There’s much to much to cover here but I love the app. The only thing I’d change is the ability to go on quests alone. None of my friends seems to use the app, and I don’t want to afflict a group of strangers with my unfinished dailies, but this knitter really wants a yarn pet - the quest scroll is maybe the second in-app purchase I’ve ever made!

  • Love it, but missing something very helpful

This app makes setting and working towards goals easy, fun, and interactive. The only thing I would suggest as improvement would be to add an “Impact” option for each habit. For example, a bad habit that I set as high impact (let’s say smoking) would have a greater effect on my score than a bad habit with a low impact (such as checking email too much). The same with a high impact good habit (saying a prayer) compared to a low impact one (reading an inspiring quote in the morning). These would all have different effects on the score when completed or neglected, thus allowing the user to prioritize which ones to complete at first.
    Hope this suggestion helps :)

  • Need to fix task rearranging bug

This app is great after the recent updates, but there is still a bug whenever you try to rearrange tasks, dailies, or to-do’s where the task list freaks out (for lack of a better word) and does bizarre things like duplicating the task you’re moving, temporarily overwriting other tasks to look identical to the one you just moved and then a few seconds later “updating” them so they’re all in the wrong places, or just plain reordering the list while you’re moving a task so everything shuffles out of order. This has been a problem since 3 or 4 versions ago and it’s still not fixed; it doesn’t impede daily use, but if you ever want to rearrange things, you have to struggle for 10 minutes to get them in the right order or else give up and use the website. If this gets fixed this app is 5 stars from me.

  • Love the app, but quality needs to be better

Update: The latest 2 versions of the app have ceased to work at all for me. They crash on startup. The bug reporting link continues to be broken both on the web browser and app. As much as I love habitica, I'm seriously considering alternatives. I've worked through the cosmetic issues over the years because I love the concept, but it's just unusable now.

I use this app all day long. Habitica has become a core part of my daily routine and in that respect, I love it. The mobile app however has had and continues to have quality problems that make it frustrating to use. The food for pets screen has had shown duplicates and "phantom food" for as long as I can remember, at least a year, probably more. Most recently, completing a task occasionally causes me to lose health?!? I totally appreciate the energy and I recognize that habitica is largely contribution driven, but if we want a larger community, the tools need to work reliably.

Also, on a related note, the "report a bug" link on the website doesn't work from iOS safari.

  • I like it. I do have some suggestions

Dailies are satisfying to check off. The thing is that it would be more satisfying to have levels. If I do my bare minimum of 7k steps, then great I check it off. But if it's the weekend and I do 10 or 15k, I'd like the option to add and track the increased difficulty. Have them turn red/orange/green the more you're able to do them. They turn blue? Maybe it's time to up your goal! Have an extra something to push for and having so that not doing extra doesn't hurt... would be awesome. I know there's the habit section where you can plus or minus, but it's not the same. Any way, cut motivating program and todo list. It helps remind me to focus on my good habits and I use it for my goal setting as well as planning project tasks with h completion dates. My wife loves it for the collecting.
