Good app, easy to navigate
Going to Ecuador for a month and downloaded this app. Seems to be a great resource. Wish the comparison mode was a bit better but overall really good. Songs with spectrograms, many languages including Spanish. Good app!
Very comprehensive field guide
Very nice app that replaces the need to lug around a 3 pound field guide and augments it with sound! It is very well organized and contains information from an authoritative source, the Helm field guide and ornithologist Robin Restall. Plus bird calls! The range maps are for all of "north South America“, so lack a bit of specificity for just Ecuador. Some features that would improve it would be to show one’s current location on the range map, and to be able to filter bird entries by current location.

Great practical guide
Day birding in the Mindo Cloud forest and great app for on the spot id loved it
So far so good.
Just got this app for a trip to Ecuador and so far, so good. It took me a little to navigate the app to find information like range maps but I like the information provided. Still learning and playing with it so I am sure I will have a more detailed review later when I really put it to use in the field.

Birds birds birds.
I like the grouping of the birds and the description for each on the same page. I would like to have actual photos of the birds included and when looking at the map, it would be better to have the entire country shown and then highlight the areas the bird could be found in. I will continue to study these birds in preparation of my trip next year.

Just started but seems very easy to search and has great detailed information.
Nice addition to my other Ecuadorian field guides
I can use this app in the field for a broader catalogue of calls/songs than just Merlín. It’s also a good quick reference (easy to use and easy to find the bird you’re looking for).

Well laid out & comprehensive
This is a well laid out, easy to use and comprehensive App. Artwork is variable but the inclusion of calls and maps is very useful. It isn’t immediately obvious what taxonomy is used, so requires some cross referencing with certain lists. The species comparison feature is very handy and it’s nice to have the same format for neighbouring countries available. I reckon this will be a useful tool for Ecuadorian birding.

Great layout!
I haven’t taken the app into the field yet, but my first impression is very favorable. It is laid out in a way that is very easy to use, and the sound recordings are a valuable feature that you can’t get in a printed field guide. The checklist feature is really nice too.
Beats Carrying a Book
Illustrations and audio are good and the comparison feature is isn’t as good as Audubon’s but it’s nice enough. Very lacking on adding your observations unless you do it right in the field, which is often impractical. You have to go into the map application each and every time you want to add a bird to a list. Once you start a list, why not have a feature to add a sighting to it with the same date and location? Otherwise, what’s the point of giving a list a title? I obviously won’t be using it to keep track of my sightings on my upcoming trip, which was the main reason I forked over $25 for it - but it beats lugging a field guide around.

Excellent app for Ecuador
Heading to Ecuador in a few weeks and wanted an app to bring along in the field instead of lugging a book around. The app is very well organized and easy to navigate.
Great bird guide app!
I am using this app to study Ecuador birds for an upcoming trip. The app is user-friendly and contains great features that a book simply can’t do as well: (1) learn bird calls and songs, (2) manually select a few birds to provide quick side-by-side comparisons, and (3) for each bird, use the “similar” button to switch to the side-by-side comparisons with pre-selected similar species that I may have overlooked.
The app uses great images from its companion field guides, complete with ID pointers. In addition, the app includes map views that extend beyond the specific country to help learn bird ranges in context, beyond such political boundaries.
Finally, the app includes text on bird ID field marks, habits, likely habitat, and other notes including taxonomy details (because taxonomy is ever-evolving with new DNA approaches etc.).
P.S.: the app includes an “identify” search engine and a sightings entry tool which I haven’t used yet. Don’t forget to check the “About” section which includes great information.

As good as it gets
I use this app as a tool for learning the birds by ear. I used their Trinidad and Tobago app before my trip to Ada Wright and significantly increased my ability to identify birds while there. I expect the same in Ecuador.
First impression is very promising
Just downloaded the app, and it looks aesthetically pleasing as soon as you open it. The groupings are very helpful and as you drill down, the flow appears to be logical and as you’d expect. Can’t wait to put it to use next week when in Ecuador
Great to use in the field!
All of the illustrations are beautifully rendered, and the “similar species” button is really helpful when confirming identification. I’m so glad I had this on my recent trip, and I loved being able to make daily lists to track my sightings. The recorded calls and songs were also very helpful!
First impressions
So far I’ve only used this app to familiarize myself with the species and test identifying birds using the app and eBird’s photo quiz. Seems to work fairly well especially if you know the family of the bird you are trying to identify. The key that allows you to select features of the bird to then give you the most probable species as a percentage match does give an excessively long list including 1152 species rather than eliminate species from the list.
The app does a really nice job of highlighting vagrants and endemic species including toggles in settings to not show or only show those.
