What’s going on BOI?
This app is simply atrocious. How can a big bank like BOI have an app this poorly designed and executed?
I’ve looked through all of the recent reviews, and there’s a response to each one from someone in the development team.
How can you not take all of this feedback and actually improve the app?

Bad update
Removed insight on monthly money in vs out. Why would they *remove* a useful feature?
Such an awful app
This is awful for banking. You can only view statements 3 months at a time. Slow for payments to leave your account. You cannot write a note so explain what a payment is for
App is constantly broken, customer service is useless
I’ve been with BOI for over 10 years and the service has only continually gotten worse, for some reason as of a few days ago it’s removed Face ID from the app, my passcode is not working and can’t get on to check my bank balance.
Payee payment restrictions
I live in the UK and had to pay for a boiler replacement for my rental apartment in Ireland, totally cost was 5,612 euro and because it’s a new payee I can only send 1000 euro. This is unacceptable as a loyal customer of over 25 years and makes me look like I can’t pay my bill up front which I wanted to do.I understand about banking fraud but surely customers can choose what to pay for bone fide work.

Works well overall
I have always found over the years, that BOI generally and the app specifically have worked well for me and most of the facilities offered within the app are pretty intuitive.
So bad it’s actually funny
I’d say an AI web builder could build something smoother in about 45 seconds
Suddenly can’t transfer money
Suddenly can’t transfer money to different accounts asked for passcode and entered it and shows only declined button
Updates
My app hasn’t had any updates on 4 months! Given the security with other apps and platforms it seems strange that nothing is happening here

So slow , laggy and behind compared to every other banking app and the bank itself are useless too

Embarrassingly bad banking app, should be better and more intuitive. Have used the NatWest app for years, they could learn a thing or two from this app.
Often the payment page from just doesn’t work.
Frustratingly difficult to pull off bank statements between two specific dates - they had to be ordered by post! App is in the dark ages.. sadly I’m thinking of changing banks cause of it

This was the worst bank I’ve ever used. The security method is terrible — it blocks the app for no reason, and when you call to unblock it, the customer service isn’t great. I don’t recommend it.
Good but not Great
The whole app really needs an update , for example Ulster Bank has a great app but BoI are still lacking in design and needs bringing into present day.
Overseas benefit
Fantastic facility to have when you are travelling abroad and very secure

Bank staff were excellent in Portarlington very helpful
Terrible banking app
Very poor online banking app. Strongly considering changing banks because of it. Was told years ago BoI was investing in it to improve it but seemingly nothing has changed. Very slow to transfer to other people and difficult to set up/edit payees. Once set up with reference then unable to edit the reference so have to delete them and set up as new payee again just to put different reference on it which is just ridiculous

Rebrand in 2019, app still using old branding in 2025
Aside from this app being beyond out of date, it doesn’t even apply your rebrand from 2019, six years on! How lazy is BOI? I’m surprised their Marketing Karens aren’t losing their minds every time they login. Or maybe they don’t care. God help us when SEPA Instant launches, you just know BOI is gonna drop the ball with open banking payment flows.

V poor performance
Compared to other banking apps this is woeful. Very slow, incredibly limited functionality
Far too many clicks
Why do I need to confirm twice plus put in my pin, just to transfer between my own accounts? Completely unnecessary. The app is still so far behind competitor apps
