Excellent for well and pond management
I have recently fitted two sockets.
One in our garden well and the other near our pond. The pond pump circulates for 3 hours per day and the well pump powers on for 0.5 hour to top up the pond water.
Easy to fit, although I did have a problem connecting to our Google WiFi points which operate at 2.4 and 5.0 GHz. However, BG have provided an alternative, the AP mode. You just connect directly to the Smart Socket from your iPhone and then once connected, you switch the iPhone back to your home WiFi and the app takes care of the rest.

Magic!
I can turn the outside socket on and off at will using an app from wherever in the world. Or the sofa. It’s witchcraft 😁
Avoid like the plague
So I had things set up and working nicely, but then I stupidly went and got a new Wi-Fi installed, so I have a working Wi-Fi with a dedicated 2.4 GHz network. I’ve got a password with no special characters out for that one cause they don’t tell you when you enter the password only doesn’t work., and still nothing. Oh, and there’s literally nowhere in the app that you can actually get through to somebody for support so there is zero support like zero none not at all an email address not a postal address nothing. Absolute useless Pile of something that I’m not allowed to write here.

It works ok once logged in
Works great but removes username after not using for months then takes ages to log back in. But when you finally do get in it works fine. Not as good as Smart Home App which these BG sockets don’t
support :(

Since the last update quick controls are no longer working once you press to bring up quick controls it just brings up a blank box please fix this asap

I’ve tried to set this up numerous time, it came with an outside bundle, but it’s awful and will never connect!

Hard to setup and unreliable
I have a BG smart outdoor double socket in an area with very strong WiFi signal. Because the socket will only connect to 2.4Ghz (how archaic is that!), I have an extender on my TP-LINK mesh network to broadcast just 2.4Ghz. Setup is a really hit and miss affair. AP setup doesn’t work at all, because the device doesn’t broadcast a WiFi SSID. The smart setup typically connects after about a dozen attempts. The sockets then stay connected for maybe two days at most before losing connection and going offline. The only solution is delete the sockets from the BG app and restart the whole tortuous setup process from scratch. My advice is to avoid smart devices from this company unless you are prepared for a whole world of pain!

Had several smart sockets and got used to what I can only describe as a quirky set up. Smart setup has never worked so always completed manual instead

SCENES DOSEN’T WORK PROPERLY
I’ve been using this app for a long time now but at some point something happened with SCENCES. For some reason when creating a SCENE I can no longer set a time or delay etc when I tap on what looks like a greyed out clock. As soon as I tap on it the app crashes.
Don’t recommend BG home app
This app is an absolute nightmare. I can’t say the device itself doesn’t work, but the app seems to have a life of its own. It doesn’t matter whether I’m on strong Wi-Fi, home Wi-Fi, 5G or 4G — when it decides not to work, it simply doesn’t. The only solution is to physically go and reset the device, and only then does the app start working again. That’s really convenient when I’m not at home.
Even the cheapest smart plugs have a better app than a £35 device. This is a real disappointment. I thought it would be a good investment, but unless the developer seriously improves the app, I can’t recommend the BG smart double socket to anyone.

Great app
This is a very useful tool to help working items around the home.
Needs updating
Unfortunately the app doesn’t like connecting to my outdoor sockets any longer, I’ve been advised by tech support that this is a now a common problem and they hope to resolve this, no timescale set. So now I have about £100 worth of non WiFi sockets lol !! Please hurry up devs !!
