Wouldn't Accept Payment

Absolutely terrible experience. Just making the account had me in a constant loop of phone number verification even though the account had already been created.

Once I actually managed to get into the app to select a locker I couldn't even add funds because it kept giving me a "Card Details" pop up. Presumably it meant the card details were somehow wrong (they weren't) and I couldn't do anything about it.

If this is some sort of ploy to discourage people from biking and using public transit, it definitely is working.

The sign up flow is horrible

The app needs polishing. I’ve been forced to use a locker and had to use this locker. It took me several attempts before I was able to create an account. It asked multiple times for phone and email verification, and then multiple times for CC. I tried to copy a card number from my password manager, and the cc form went crazy. Please test your app.

App doesn’t work

The app works perfectly fine up until I want to rent a locker where it just says the lockers are loading even though all lockers are available. I don’t know if this is a me problem or an app problem but it’s genuinely leaves the app unusable.

App works great

The mobile app is very reliable. I like that you can scan from the camera the QR code on the door where your bike is and the app automatically end the rental. The “Navigate” button on the app only works if you have Apple Maps. It should work with the user’s default map setting/app (Google Maps etc). I do recommend this service and hope it expands to schools and parks

Crashes on every launch

Crashing

Awful

Can’t even get through a sign up flow. So frustrating

Locker

Yes

Terrible design

1. Login and add payment cost a century of effort; 2. One box per app at same time; 3. Box is deep, no light, easy to close and no human detection. Easy to get locked during operation. Won’t use again

works as intended!

only feedback is to implement apple pay please!

Crashes

This app crashes and closes a second after opening. Fix it!!!

app setup too painful

the app setup steps are so buggy (got stuck in a text message verification loop) and poorly integrated with iOS (no Hide My Email built in, no autofill for payment details) that I don’t think I trust locking my bike up with this company. Horror stories in the reviews seem to confirm that.

I’d rather pay each time than have to load value into my account, because I worry about being able to get unused funds back. It’s also super unclear why the boxes where I commute have Clipper payments but it doesn’t work.

Maybe I’ll try one day when I have several extra minutes to try to set up my account and fiddle with payment setup - which is unlikely.

Wish it worked

I love bikelink lockers. In my day job, I promote biking and transit to thousands of employees and want to promote BikeLink lockers. But I don’t think I can when the iOS app crashes immediately when opening. Please fix this!

App wording concerns

Very convenient option to store large items. I used this to store my bike since I couldn’t get it on the train. BUT my review is about the app itself. It states you can rent the storage box for 3 days but the terminology on the app causes concern rather than clarification. I have 4 hours left in my reservation but it says “ your rental has been abandoned for: 4h 7m” indicating my time has elapsed. As you go back into the app, the time will actually countDOWN. It’s currently now at 4h 3m. There are better ways to reflect how much time is left and/or time gone OVER the 3days (72hrs).

Bug

I have auto-reload enabled. Lately before I start my rental it says “you don’t have enough funds, please manually add money” which defeats the WHOLE PURPOSE of AUTO-reload. I missed a train because I couldn’t figure it out, and it turns out I had to disable auto-reload, add money, and then turn auto-reload back on.

Called customer service to ask if this was a known issue and they told me to push the button on my locker which made me feel like they had no idea what my issue was? How will this fix auto-reload with my credit card on the app? Thanks for listening.

Something wrong with app?

The past week I’ve noticed many available lockers are stuck in ‘LOOKING’ and I am unable to rent. I’ve been using this app for about a year and now it’s got a weird bug. Any chance y’all going to look into fixing this???

All lockers stuck on “Looking”

Bug is preventing me from renting lockers. Garbage app, poorly maintained lockers.

Bring back 15 hour default rental

I’ve had zero problems with this app for several months, I love not having to remember my old BikeLink card. It’s easy to add money.

But recently a change was made to the default rental time. Rentals used to default to 15 hours, now they default to 0, meaning you get charged more than 2x for your rental. If you miss selecting the duration before starting your rental, there’s no way to add more time without ending your rental and starting again. This takes a lot of extra time when parking at BART and trying to catch a train. Please bring back the 15 hour default!

Response from developer

We’re sorry for the BART stress! A bug in v0.21.0 reset durations to 0, but we quickly pushed the fix in v0.21.1 and have proactively refunded all affected rentals we identified. Please email support@bikelink.org if you don't see yours yet. The 15hr default is still here! Our app uses sticky defaults, if you manually set your duration to 15 hours once, the app will remember that as your preference for every future rental. Since you only pay for the time you actually use, we suggest setting it longer than you need for total peace of mind. We are also excited to be rolling out an "Add Time" feature (no need to be at the locker!) across our system. Keep an eye out for it at BART’s new lockers soon. We hope this gets your commute back on track. Let us know if you have any other feedback, we'd love to hear from you!

Great utility, predatory app design

I rely on BikeLink for the convenience and security of their lockers, which are located exactly where I need them. However, the app’s "Add Value" flow feels intentionally deceptive. Even when I have a sufficient balance, the app consistently pushes the "Add Value" screen immediately after closing a rental. I’ve had multiple instances where a single accidental touch—or even just putting my phone in my pocket before the screen locked—resulted in an unauthorized charge to my card. It’s a shame that such a useful service is paired with an interface that seems designed to fleece users for a few extra dollars rather than prioritizing a smooth user experience. Fix the UI.

Response from developer

We are truly sorry your experience felt deceptive. Hearing that is a major red flag for us, as our goal is simply to provide low-cost, secure bike parking, not to trick our users. We are reviewing the screens you mentioned, determining exactly how these accidental charges are happening, and have already begun working to address the issues. Our intention behind putting the account balance on the receipt screen (and linking it to the add value screen) was to let you know your current balance right after rental charges, making it easy to add value if needed so you are ready to go the next time you're rushing to catch a train. However, it appears it is simply too easy to tap by mistake and accidentally trigger the add value screen. To fix this, we are evaluating a 'Slide to Add Value' mechanic (similar to how you start/end a rental) to prevent accidental taps. We are also introducing a "cool-down" timer to prevent unintended multiple charges. Please reach out to support@bikelink.org. We will refund any accidental charges if we haven't already, and we'd love to add extra credit to your account to thank you for this feedback. We appreciate you helping us make the app better for everyone.

Incredibly trashy app

Had to take my photo sideways, while holding driver’s license

Bike got Stuck, Better off just locking it near by

I got off the train station and decided to choose these lockers since it was only 5 cents an hour. Its not worth it guys, i came back tried to unlock it (didnt work), then called and the lady gave me a pin (that didnt work), and i called again and they put a ticket and hopefully ill get it tomorrow?? If they make me pay for all of that time i will be really mad tbh
