Bad update
I am a 16 year old user of the capitec bank app. I have been able to use the app just fine until their recent update of changing the age restriction to 18+. I can not look at my balance or even open the app at all. I think this is a completely stupid update as people that are 16+ are able to open their own bank account, but now they can not even use the app.
Update: It has been a bit less than a month now, I went to Capitec bank to see if they could help me, they everything but helpful. The lady that helped me said that it was something wrong with my phone and that I need to change my age to 21+ on my iCloud account, but when I checked the age restriction it was 17+ (I am now 17), so I actually do not understand why it isn’t working. I have even tried to login on Capitec’s online banking website, but it says I can not login without checking in with my app account, so I am completely at a loss WORSE UPDATE EVER!

Pretty broken and poor ui
The UI is confusing and slow, and strange limits like only 6 favourites on the home page. Phone number verification reliably fails - with a cryptic message about being unable to “read my phone number” after getting a valid confirmation on WhatsApp. This feels like one of those low code no code apps developed by an ISV not by a cutting edge bank … I didn’t think I would say this but ABSA has a better app experience.

Honestly this app is a chore to use. Please get the basics right before adding new features. It’s at the point now where I’m opening accounts elsewhere
18+ Rating for what?
Why on earth would Capitec have an 18+ rating on their banking app? Both my kids bank with Capitec but they are unable to view their online balance or use the app because of the app rating. No other banking app has a rating that high. I have Family controls set up on their Apple phones so my daughters can’t even see the app. I think Capitec needs to relook at this.

I love banking with Capitec because their pricing and communication tend to be clear, which makes the bank feel more accessible. My favourite features is customize my home screen. You can hide your balance from view, or set up shortcuts to your favorite actions. Capitec make festive shopping smoother because you can just scan and pay everywhere you go. My thoughts on Flexi Vouchers

Surprise selfies
Biometric identification was a great addition. But the other feature that arrived at the same time was surprise selfies, and that is awful. The screen goes blindingly white unexpectedly, you get a brief and unflattering glimpse of yourself squinting in the bright light, and there’s no warning and no way to stop or delay it. I usually pay bills at night and it’s like having a torch shone in your face without warning. I don’t understand why the app still uses selfies when a user has enabled biometric identification - can’t you just rely on the in-built facial recognition where it is available? At least that will not shine a torch in my face.
