Carla allowed me to search for, book, and PAY for a rental car in Anchorage, Alaska—even though they apparently have no ability to actually provide a rental there. How does a company even allow reservations in a state where they can’t fulfill them?
What makes this even worse is that they didn’t bother to notify me. No email. No phone call. No text. Nothing.
Instead, I happened to check my reservation myself the day before pickup and discovered that it had quietly been switched to a refund request stating that “if approved, it may be refunded within 10 days.” I never requested a cancellation. I never requested a refund. Carla simply took my money, canceled my reservation without my knowledge, and started a 10-day refund process while leaving me to figure it out on my own.
This wasn’t some trip months away. My pickup was scheduled for 9:00 AM the next morning in Anchorage. Had I trusted Carla to communicate like any competent company would, I would have shown up stranded with no vehicle and no backup plan.
This is beyond incompetent. It’s deceptive, irresponsible, and shows a complete lack of respect for customers. If you cannot provide rental cars in a location, don’t advertise them. Don’t accept reservations. And certainly don’t charge people’s credit cards for a service you never had the ability to provide.
A rental car isn’t an impulse purchase—people rely on them for flights, hotels, work, and vacations. Carla’s complete failure to communicate could have ruined my entire trip.
Save yourself the stress. Book directly with a reputable rental company instead of gambling on whether Carla actually has the vehicle they’re happy to charge you for.
One of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. I will never use Carla again.

As a result, I had to cancel my students’ field trip, which was extremely disappointing. In the future, I’ll be using Turo instead.
