They ruined the app with the recent redesign which is just AI slop. So sad

Couchsurfing is the best community worldwide, love it! The new app is still in development with many bugs but I have faith in them!

Sad new design // over complicates things
The new UI and updated UX is ridiculous. The older design was classic, fits the heart of the real travellers. Now, it’s trying to show off its tech vibe and prioritizing social media functionalities. Please, at least add the option on the website or in the app for users to have their own choice of which platform design they’d like to use.

It used to be good before they changed the layout
They suddenly changed the layout and definitely lost a lot of loyal users. It’s no longer an easy platform to navigate.
They said they fixed it but still sucks
This new interface design is so terrible. I received One month free and they said they fixed the app but I don't see anything different. It seems they don't have a UX team working with them cause' they ruined the whole app experience, they are only changing how the interface looks like but not listening the users. Why did they change something that only needed small improvements?

Scam
First of all they will force you to pay on the very first page to see the app better, Right after you pay for subscribe they will close your account. Also they collect sensitive personal information, Be careful about their scam.
Huge disappointment
I cant believe after 15 years of using couch surfing since its original creation, im now met with a pay wall, because i can even view or access my account. Are you kidding?!? 15 years using this site and its never once blocked me from at the very least viewing my profile.
Sure, verified accounts can cost money but forcing me to pay to even view my account and my my profile, to remove my saved pictures, to remove my data!?! Pathetic! I cannot believe it.
The company that “verifies” I dont trust with my data. And the number of times couch surfing says “ verify verify verify” tells me the verification isnt for us, the users. Its for CS and the $$$ they make for that verification company selling our data. Cs doesnt care about verification for safety. Its all money. Reading the agreement for the verification company….they own everything about you!!!
Im going make sure that no one else uses this site or app. This was the worst decision you could have ever made. “Covid made us do it because we lost money” well guess what, you just lost a lot more.

Why change the app?
Very difficult understand the app, the color I can’t change and for one reason I can find host.

It has made me meet nice and new people who a very important in my life.
Ruined by Men
This used to be a great tool to get around for cheap and meet wonderful people but now it’s just plagued by creepy weird men trying to use it as a dating app for women who are NOT interested. This seems to be a common experience across many profiles as I’ve heard of many people experiencing this issue and it prevents you from being able to filter through the real people as women will turn off their notifications due to being bombarded by these other messages.

No value left
As others have noted, the app redesign accelerated what was already a dying community. Hangouts are impossible, hosts are inactive, and couchsurfing just keeps adding paywalls. Launches are botched- even the appeal to come back was not rolled out well. I think in 12 months it will be shuttered.
Notifications
Hey CS team - I’m a long term support of the product. The recent updates are sending the Hangouts Nearby notifications like every 2 hours. It’s a lot and will lead to a decrease in people with active notifs

The new ui is very much immature, the pictures are always zoomed in and the whole ux is just weird. Please fix: photos rendering issues (no body takes pictures in that aspect ratio), notifications being available on newsfeed only, after leaving hangouts the hangouts message stays in notifications (activity), feed is not related to my area

App is dead
The app barely works anymore. It’s slow, buggy, and feels completely abandoned. Such a great concept, but the current experience is very disappointing.
I love Couchsurfing but this app
Is the worst app update I’ve ever seen. Seriously, please fix it. I’ve been seeing double notifications and missing msgs.
