Location always on required

The app is completely nonfunctional unless you allow them to always see your location no matter what even when the app is closed. That is idiotic there is no reason they need that other than spying on you.

Collar Great - App Is Spyware

The collar appears great. Lots of potential. If what you want is a Fitbit for your pet, this is it.

BAD - This app gives off vibe as data collection company and they are using this collar to do that.

The app wants ALL of YOUR data, not just the collar.

It won’t let you set up unless you give it your location data and your movement data. It literally won’t allow you to continue unless you check the boxes to give it that access.

Then when it has background app refresh on it sends you notifications that I closed and to reopen it and leave it going in the background.

It wants your Bluetooth turned on full time even though the collar has WiFi and LTE, and offers to scan my area for more devices.

I want a collar that does what they say it does. Nowhere would I have thought it relevant to the collar functionality requiring my personal phone data.

Fi is a Scam

I bought three of these and wish I could return. They are useless unless you are willing to give up your personal data that has nothing to do with your dog. I would like to know if my dog leaves the perimeter I set but the app locks if you don’t turn on your PHONE’s location tracking etc.

Success

This review was originally not great, but the team has done a wonderful job of changing my mind.

Ads & Unworking features detract

Expect daily marketing notifications and pointless “streak” notifications if you ever want to know when your dog leaves a safe zone. These cannot be turned off.

The app must fully connect to the internet to pull up the GPS map. If you don’t have internet where you are you will not find your dog. Maybe someone with access at a different location could track the dog, but that’s yet to be tested.

The walk tracker consistently stops tracking halfway through your walk, so it’s always wrong. The health monitoring would be fine if I didn’t observe myself how wrong a lot of it is. Maybe if they ditched BS we could have a better functioning app.

Great ask with one bit of feedback

This is a great app. It has given me so much reassurance that I can find my dog if he ever gets lost. He's not a runner, but he does tend to wander, especially when we are in the woods or at our cabin.

My one bit of feedback to the product owner or act developer is that the notifications can be quite annoying. If I am walking my dog, I don’t need four or five notifications to let me know where he is because he is at the end of the leash, likely sniffing or trying to roll in something. Unnecessary notifications make it much more likely we’ll pay attention to the necessary.

Peace of mind

I love my fi! When I’m at work I can track her movements and it gives me peace of mind she’s happy and playing

Would never buy again

App now requires me to share MY phone location always and won’t work if using only during app use. There is no reason for that. I want to track my dog not the company to track me

Terrible

Only tracks within Bluetooth/wifi range. Will not track a dog that leaves the yard in a rural area. We’ve had nothing but problems in lost dog mode. We’ve had these collars for more than a year, and tried to live track hundreds of times. It has not worked once.

Stopped Being Reliable

When we first got Fi it was pretty reliable. At a certain point the dog tracking became completely unreliable to the point of not working at all.

During that period they changed the app to no longer easily show a link to open your map app (Apple/Google) to allow you to navigate to your dog. That’s assuming the tracking actually works.

I almost question if the development and support of the tech slipped so they could focus on silly social media sharing of your dogs pictures, steps, rankings, etc.

Or, they possibly hobbled their old versions to force users to upgrade to their new starlink version.

I contacted their support with some valid questions and their support team has zero idea about the product and app. They are likely offshore support that don’t use Fi or even have dogs. Zero follow up from my original support requests.

Forces personal location sharing

The app won’t even open unless you allow personal location sharing at all times. Very very dodgy! Don’t set up the device if you’re not willing for this company to have constant access to your personal location. Every cyber security expert in the world states you should never do this on any app. Not worth the smaller device size!

Outrageous privacy breach

What possible reason could the app have for forcing you to share your precise location at all times, even when you’re not using the app?! This is supposed to be for finding dogs not tracking humans. Is this even legal?

New collar

My other tracker keeps the charge longer does not lose service as easily and is cheaper. The FI one and two worked better and were cheaper, but the collar came apart easily.

Load time is Awful

I was hoping the update would speed it up but I do believe it’s worse.

Excellent tracker

This is my third time buying this collar and frankly I’m disappointed in the charging time on them. I have to charge this new tracker every day and it should last a lot longer being new! My old ones would go for days without needing a charge but the new Fi3 needs a charge daily! It is exceptional at tracking so I love how well that works!

It Tracks the Human Too

The app doesn’t work unless you give it permission to track your phone at all times, as opposed to just when you are using the app or just when you are texting your pet. There is no reason Fi needs to know where I am located when I am not using the app except so that they can sell my location for marketing purposes to third party vendors.

Data violations

App blocks you unless you allow location tracking at all times. I bought a gps collar to keep track of my dog’s location, not my own.
It says it uses this data to alert you if your dog escapes, but you do not need my location for this.
This is in violation of my GDPR rights and needs rectifying ASAP.

Needs better location services

App keeps bugging me to keep my location sharing to always and to keep app open at all times, that’s a huge battery drain, I really hope they think of something better but decent app for tracking

I wish I could give 10 stars!

This is an excellent dog collar, excels in every way shape and form, very tough as well. My dog is a Great Dane x Goldendoodle, she can be clumsy at times and slam into things I don’t have to worry about it breaking or anything. I swear the battery is some form of alien tech. Maybe on your next series maybe you can implement a beep or vibration for use to recall our furry children back to us. Maybe even a LED strip so we see where they are stepping. Thank you FI !!

Delayed notifications

We’ve had this for over two years and about 40-50% of the time the notification is delayed when our dog leaves the zone. My husband doesn’t use the app, so whenever he walks her, I get a notice. Great to count steps, but not reliable for location. Now it is not connecting to the network at all if she is out. Too much trouble for the annual fee.
