okay so im 14, and Im trying to use this app now to call my friends (I HAD a number now I don’t) and guess what? Everything else is good about this app except I CANT CALL. WITHOUT VERIFIYING WITH AN ID. why?? That’s SO stupid.
It blocked me from using
Downloaded and tried to get an account. Uploaded a picture of driver license and was not verified. I’m not sure what I did wrong.
Costs extra for nonprofits
As the admin for my nonprofit, I thought I would test this app, but get an error message asking me to contact my admin to allow access. Through a bunch of round robins in chats and AI tools, I finally find Google just wants me to pay extra. Just flippin’ say that instead of your admin needs to change setting!! Why does it take so long to root cause the damn problem, vs no problem just direct communication of what is required. And btw, we’ll just test it as individuals for free instead (or maybe use alternatives)

DON’T DO IT
I downloaded this app as a burner number to sell items occasionally on CL. The verification is awful, they wanted me to send pictures of front and back of my ID. Not a chance, it defeats the whole purpose of an alternate burner number to hide your identity from scammers when you sell stuff on CL. NO, NEVER. Uninstalling now.

Won't even open
This app used to be awesome, lately the notifications don't get removed from the iPhone panel after reading the messages, so after everything is read I still have to go clear multiple groups of notifications. Also it gets slower & slower over time until it's almost unusable. Sometimes deleting the app & reinstalling it speeds it up for a few weeks.

Buggy
It was OK before, but now it freezes every time I select the messaging tab. I’m using an iPhone 17 that was just purchased a few months ago. Also, please add the ability to send videos and use RCS.
Locks up constantly, borderline unusable
This app has gotten absolutely terrible. UI locks up constantly. Make the API public so developers can make a quality app for Voice.

Great to use as 2nd number
Thank you! Google axes a lot of apps. All the people complaining would not do so if Google axed this app tomorrow. Be careful what you wish for.
I don’t think Google makes much money from this but it’s a life saver when living or traveling abroad. Or to avoid sales called.

My app isn’t letting me opening i am in the USA and he said i can use my account both web and app

Come on Google. You pushed the standard but your own app doesn’t use it.
What a poor platform
When I tried to sign up, it asked me to verify my identity. Which is fine I have no problem with that, but it had somebody else’s name and address associated with it that I cannot change without change of name documents because apparently payment is associated with that number now I’m stuck in an infinite loop that I cannot get out of with this poor software.

Not worth it.
Had them for years for business and all of a sudden since they started using ai, they decided to suspend my account for no reason. I barely text from it, I have only used it to call a handful of times. It is all incoming from clients booking appointments. I only use it so that clients don’t have my personal number. There is no customer service and no solution. This is costing me thousands because of this. And I wasn’t in any violations. The account was mostly incoming texts from clients. Anything business related was sent through my booking app not texts, so there was no spam. Companies should not have this much control it’s weird. Why wouldn’t you give people an option to upgrade to a paid service if it needed and why wouldn’t you take the time to contact them if there were issues before costing someone hundreds by locking an account for no reason. GROW UP AND DO BETTER GOOGLE. YOU GAVE UNLIMITED RESOURCES AT YOUR DISPOSAL. ITS WEIRD!!!

Doesnt text, it lies
It wont send texts and it offers no assistance. In the help articles it literally tells you half the carriers have the google voice texts blocked. Literally tells you to wait a day and just “see if it works after that.”
So phone calls only! Dont rely on this for texting. Not sure why it wants to falsely advertise like that. But yes you can use it to call parents if youre a teacher, but you still cant text.

Loved it but not developed
Have been using it for years. It’s been great. But now it freezes on my 17Pro Max every day. reinstalling does not help. Going to port my number elsewhere if this continues.
Constant Payments
I cancelled this and never used it once. They won't stop billing me.

Incredibly mismanaged
Google voice’s “protocols” flag your phone number for everything (I guess, you can’t actually contact google for help, AT ALL), so all is based on forums for help. You go through the whole process to pic your number, get excited to started a new number, and it just disappears. The emotional whiplash is obscene. I can’t imagine how bad this service must be.
