Extremely Concerning Experience
⚠️ – Serious Privacy and Security Concerns
I am extremely concerned about my experience with Gumtree.
Shortly after registering and providing my phone number, I suddenly started receiving unsolicited and suspicious SMS messages from third parties. The timing is extremely worrying and raises serious questions for me about how users’ personal information is being protected and how my number may have become accessible to others.
What makes the situation even more concerning is that when I decided to delete my account, Gumtree’s account deletion form simply did not allow me to complete the process. I attempted to use their GDPR account deletion procedure, but I was unable to submit the request successfully.
A platform that collects personal information should make it straightforward for users to control their data and delete their accounts — not make the process feel impossible.
Based on my experience, I have serious concerns about privacy, security, and the potential for scams on this platform. I no longer feel comfortable trusting Gumtree with my personal information.
I will never use Gumtree again, and based on what I experienced, I cannot recommend it to anyone.
I also expect Gumtree to investigate why I began receiving suspicious messages after registering and to provide a clear and functioning method for permanently deleting my account and personal data.

Does the basics, but crams your search results full of ads. Also, reduces the resolution of pictures so you cannot discern any detail, which is a bit of an issue if you want to see what you're buying

I find the buyers on gumtree to be of poor quality, they do not appreciate good quality items , make stupid low offers and do not res-pondand when they offer to collect they do not turn up
Not a great design
It is so easy to click send on the pre-filled “is this available” message without confirmation. This has caused a number of embarrassing interactions.

DESCRIPTIONS APPEAR TO BE FROM THE LAND OF NOD AND DO NOT GIVE ANY TRUE DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEM BEING SOLD.TAKES TWICE AS LONG TO LIST AN ITEM DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF DELITIONS THAT HAVE TO BE MADE.
GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS LISTING FORMAT ASAP .

Poor app, poor decision, poor communication on there half, just a poor app. All my ads get deleted for no apparent reason, even set up a new email, new account and still all genuine ads removed. Waste of time.
