Useless and disappointing

What is the purpose of the app if throws you over to a browser? Then when you sign in on the browser, there are obnoxious pop ups telling you to download the app. This has always been the worst banking app I’ve used. I can’t comprehend why the app is so clunky compared to any other banking app. I also have marketing emails turned off and they just don’t stop. I’ve relegated as email junk to try to stop them from clogging my email.

What do I like about HSBC?

Here are my highlights: instant money transfer, reimbursement of ATM fees, pull euros in Europe, easily without fees, high interest on savings account, no marketing BS in app or website. Highly recommend to someone looking for a global banking solution.

Support chat doesn’t work

Chat support is forever showing a loading icon in the app, always have to login to the website to access chat support instead

App exposes security vulnerabilities

Received email saying that now you can login and using Social Security number or Passport number. Why would HSBC think that using your SS or passport is better for security. Now thieves can use their login to verify that your SS has account at HSBC. Genius CIO should be fired.

Checks don’t deposit and NO in-person banks nearby

HSBC bank offers only one branch location on Long Island. One! Long Island is a very big place. The next location closest is in NYC. In addition, there is a specific set of checks that will not deposit using the app. That means, I need to wait until I am somewhere near the one branch on Long Island (a 40 min drive!) or make a special trip just to deposit checks. I recognize that HSBC is interested only in wealth management, they do still offer checking accounts, and they should provide a means of more easily servicing those accounts. I have brought the check deposit situation to the attention of HSBC now multiple times, to no avail; nothing ever gets fixed. While HSBC offers ATM service through All Point, that is only for withdrawal. HSBc should also offer a means of ATM or other deposit, instead of inconveniencing customers with only ONE location across a vast area.

International service and bill pay

Excellent, reliable and easy to send money quickly and easily.

Service unavailable since almost a month!

It’s been over 3 weeks that the app is simply not working. It just says ‘service unavailable’! Super frustrating.

Update the app

Despite being a prominent international bank, HSBC's mobile banking app falls short in comparison to its competitors, such as JP Morgan and Wells Fargo.
Notably, the app lacks essential features, such as a dedicated button for managing debit cards, necessitating the use of a separate app for individual card management. Furthermore, initiating transactions from an external bank account is not possible through the mobile app, requiring users to log in to their account on a computer. These shortcomings undermine HSBC's ability to serve as a comprehensive banking solution, as the app's inadequate services become evident. Additionally, the app fails to provide essential account information, such as the account number and routing number. This situation is particularly concerning given the year 2026. It is imperative that HSBC's website development team prioritize the enhancement of the mobile app to improve customer service and meet the evolving needs of its users.

Not Ready for Prime Time

Tried to deposit check multiple times and everything except confirm screen worked perfectly. Filed multiple complaints, no answer for days. Was finally advised to download new version from AppStore. Did so, still same problem. Finally got call back. System problem with new version, will not be fixed till NEXT MONTH, but I can go to branch (remember closure of so many few years ago, sold to Citizens Bank) but requires 30-45 minute drive to nearest branch, or can mail it in (lose anything in the mail lately by USPS?), so both options are not practical. This is how they watch your money and care for you?! Perhaps it’s time to change to another more reliable bank.

lost login data in app without any major system issue AGAIN IN 2026

And I have to reset the app

I recommend that return to the old app that is US designed, and more robust

2026 UPDATE: I encountered the very same issue 7 years later since last update of the app

Service unavailable

As previous people have mentioned the app says service unavailable and has been like this for weeks. App is generally good but this lengthy downtime is unacceptable in my opinion. Push a new update please so we can manage our finances.

I CANNOT GET INTO THE APP 05.29.26

I have been trying to access the app since this morning. It is now 12 hours later and it keeps saying service unavailable. I called customer service and they told me that emails were sent informing of a new update. There is no update. I have the current version. I have not able to do anything today because I can access my money. This is ridiculous!

How do you want to confirm your identity?

Not an app

Update: Developer thinks I’m their secretary

Service unavailable error

Since the past 2 weeks I’m not able to login via this app. I get an error saying “service unavailable“. I am able to generate security code and login via desktop browser. It’s frustrating that app is not working for so long.

Ok but ...

Would like to be able to add quarterly or weekly payments in the app

Easy and bug-free

The app is easy to use and no bugs so far whatsoever.

Mr Romeed

Great service

How do you want to confirm your identity?

Not an app

Extremely Basic

Basic functionality of viewing your deposit accounts. No ability to truly manage your money or investments. If you’re looking for a bank that allows you to manage your own money, HSBC is not it, evidenced by this app.

App needs work

Been using the app for a few weeks now and it needs more capabilities. It’s SUPER basic.

It was difficult adding another bank so I can move money between domestic banks (SoFi). I had to use web browser.

Now I’m trying to update my auto payment account. Same issue. I need to most likely use a web browser again.

If I can’t trust the app, how am I supposed to trust if I can use zelle?
