I filed a renters insurance claim after my apartment experienced significant flooding and I had to move out. What should have been a straightforward process turned into months of waiting, delays, and trying to get answers.
The most frustrating part is that my claim still has not been resolved to this day. I have been waiting for this situation to be handled while dealing with the consequences of losing my housing and having to relocate.
I understand that insurance claims can take time and that information may need to be collected from multiple parties. However, there comes a point where the amount of time this has taken becomes unacceptable. As a customer who has been paying for renters insurance, I expected Lemonade to actually be there when I needed to use my policy.
Dealing with a major loss is stressful enough without having to spend months waiting for your insurance company to resolve your claim. The lack of resolution has been extremely disappointing, and based on my experience, I would think twice before relying on Lemonade for renters insurance.
I did the math. Feels like a scam.
As other reviewers have stated, I am baffled by all these good reviews. They pay a great deal for marketing and trendy social media advertisements. Don’t fall for it.
I paid thousands of dollars in premiums over several years and never received a single reimbursement. The value proposition simply is not there. It just honestly does not make sense as a financial decision to buy pet insurance through this company. In my experience, they will do everything they can to connect your claim to a pre-existing condition and avoid covering it. Their policy language is incredibly broad, allowing them to exclude far more than I ever expected.
Listen to the other one-star reviews. I wish I had. I pay over $1,000 a year for coverage that has legitimately never paid me a dime, and the entire experience feels heavily automated and AI-driven.
I’m canceling my pet insurance and moving my renters insurance elsewhere. This product feels like a scam. Truly, I feel embarrassed that I paid for it for as long as I did.
At this point, the only value I can see in pet insurance like this is catastrophic coverage and you can find better rates and a better customer experience for that elsewhere. Look into Pets Best.

Horrible App

Worst insurance ever
Well done app, easy to cancel, too
Awful
My car is driven by other members of my household who are covered by a different insurance provider. I assumed the location tracking in the app was to make it such that only miles driven by me would be logged, which one would think would be the obvious implementation for a pay per mile system. Instead, my plan was logging miles while I was on the other side of the country.
When I brought this up with customer support, they proceeded to make up some fake dates/numbers and pretend the trips I referenced didn’t exist, or something to that end, which they corrected once I called them out. Whatever the case is, it was clear incompetence either from the customer representative or whatever internal tracking system they were reading off of.
I was going to consider using lemonade for my pet insurance as well but that’s definitely not happening anymore.

AMAZING
Use web for quote
After completing my first quote and starting a second one, whether home or auto, I’m unable to switch between the two quotes in the app. I had to use the in-app chat feature to get a web link just so I could view both quotes.
The bundling process is also confusing. After completing both a home and auto quote, no bundle discount or price adjustment is displayed. I get the exact same prices whether I quote auto first or home first, and even deleting one of the quotes doesn’t change the price of the other. That makes it impossible to tell whether a multi-policy discount is actually being applied.
The app needs better quote navigation and much clearer information showing when and how bundle discounts are calculated. Right now, the experience feels incomplete and makes it difficult to trust that the quoted prices are accurate.
Predatory offline fees for seldom driven vehicles
Do not recommend
I also found the advertising misleading and the pre-existing-condition exclusions far more restrictive than expected, even for a young animal with little medical history. I never filed a claim.
I switched to a more expensive company for clearer policies and better customer service. If price is your priority, this may work for you, but research the fine print and get answers in writing before purchasing.
Even the responses to the every negative review on here are directs you to an automated AI system that will run you through a continuous loop. Generally such a frustrating process compared to the company I switched to right after that was so much more clear cut for only $15 more.
