Why did they make the app less functional?

The app is so much less functional than the previous version. Why can I no longer see the train schedule for future days? I now have to go to the NJ transit website for this information.

Not an efficient app

Not an efficient app for NJ transit riders to
1. coordinate various boarding stations

2. Prepare for getting off two stations ahead, especially for someone w/ disability.

3. Does not have an at a glance info re: estimate arrival time or upcoming station stops.

Whoever designed/developed this application does not appear to be a rider of any public transit system, definitely not NJTRANSIT.
This new app misses some major points, or helpful info that was on the old application nor is it user friendly. It feels cumbersome and inefficiently!

Update

Never has an app lost it’s usefulness more than with the 2026 update

Completely messed up a good thing

This new app is atrocious. Completely confusing to navigate, missing simple features from the previous version, and infuriating to use for scheduling.

Password reset does not work

See above. Lost access to ticket because this error.

Worst app

Worst app, never works, always have problems, never load, the old app was better, update ruined everything. Nothing work. App makes me want to kill myself

Makes life harder

Legitimately the worst app when it comes the public transit. Actively makes my life more difficult especially since the update in summer 2026. Does not show you gates, updates to delays, anything worthwhile as a commuter looking for the fastest route home. Has consistently led me in the wrong direction onto buses/trains where I have to ask drivers if this is indeed where they are going. It’s always wrong. I don’t understand how an app can actually be this unhelpful, it’s also the least user friendly experience one could have taking a bus.

New update is awful

The new formatting for the app is so difficult to use and while you tried to make it user friendly it now is impossible to plan ahead and see the whole schedule

it just feels like this app could be better

somehow it doesn’t feel innovative, but it is simple. BUT how come when all the trains have ended for the day, they can’t just show me the trains for the next day. I don’t want to use the trip planner! it doesn’t show me the full schedule in comparison to train tab view!!! and why doesn’t your ticket attach to your train so you know when you’ll arrive at ur destination like the previous rendition of the app?? do better NJ transit, still love you though.

How could an app be this bad

This new app is honestly ATROCIOUS. I’m quite accustomed to NJ Transit being pretty incompetent at everything they do but this app is a new level of useless for them. The old one wasn’t groundbreaking but it worked. I can’t fathom why they would change it out for this nonsense. I literally can’t even find a coherent schedule for the route I take. I don’t know how it is possible to make an app this bad.

Tickets

You are currently unable to purchase tickets on the app

Impossible to use for bus schedules

Gives you an error or blank page whenever you try to route between two bus stops. Have to just use the old fashioned timetable to figure anything out.

Good, but there’s a bad bug on map view (live a tracking bus)

There’s a glitch several of users have noted: when tracking your bus via the map view, and also in “Next EST” tab, the bus that’s >5 min away drops off the map and table. It just happened to me for the 156 that was scheduled for 5:47 at 43rd and park ave. This has been happening for months: a closely approaching bus disappears from your timetable. can you please look into a fix for this? I’m on apple iOS - thanks

New version is bad

The new version doesn’t let you view all the stops on your train. So if a train has a mechanical issue you can’t see other stops on different trains to try and get on a different train.

No common sense

1. There is no place to submit a bug report or feature request. Your only option is to call tech support, who will tell you they can’t and won’t forward any feedback

2. Heaven forbid you get a new phone. The app can only be signed in on one device and will not let you sign in or transfer to a new device. Your only option is to create a new account and lose any tickets you purchased.

It did not used to work this way and seems like a bug, but you can’t report it because of point number 1

Can’t book bus tickets on the app anymore

Regular user of the app. Ever since I updated my ios to the latest version. NJ transit app doesn’t allow me to book bus tickets anymore. I only see the train option. It’s been atleast 10 days and the problem still persists. Ps: I also have the latest version of the app.

A huge step back.

NJT, your latest update solves nothing for end users and adds unwanted extra taps to access key features. Gone is a quick navigation to departure vision (now via Trains, and select a station). Gone is one-tap navigation to a maintainable list of favorite trains (you can still star a train as a favorite, but who knows where to find that again, it’s not under Places and Favorites.) Work and Home ‘favorites’ clutter the home screen and don’t do anything beyond populating the ‘to’ field of the trip planner. Alerts are easily missable as they don’t sort current date to top. Active tickets still fully take over the screen and require constant dismissal; just what you need when scrambling to find info on cancellations. Finally, the app has short authentication windows, requiring fresh sign-in, typically this happens when a conductor is yelling to activate your ticket and you have 2 bars on your 5G connection. NJT, unlike your hard product, you can roll software back and don’t have a dependency on Amtrak. Please bring back the older version now.

Bus Schedules Not Good

I’ve tried multiple times for search for availability multiple times and the experience isn’t great. Also searching for a stop doesn’t senile cards to find a stop name. You have to use the exact name from the beginning (Rt 9 or US 9)

Big Failure

I’ve relied on this app for years to plan travel from western NJ to NYC. It has never been very intuitive or easy to use, but it got the job done. The current version does not resize to fit my iPad screen. When the app loads, it defaults to the new features tour screen, but the button is entirely out of frame and so inaccessible. So it’s useless. Didn’t anyone do any device testing?

No track info

The new ui is terrible, you used to be able to see the track the train was on on the app and now it’s no where to be found
