TAKES CASH, DOES NOT ADD TO CARD

I added cash, it charged my card, but it didn’t add any value in the app. They did refund my card quickly though.

Incomplete setup and charge

Somehow I did not complete the account setup, but Octopus charged my credit card anyway. I cancelled the account, but Octopus does not refund the amount charged as quickly as it took my money. I’ll wait to see if I get a refund in 2-3 business days and start over. Go through the setup process slowly.

O star please

better to use the physical card. I use this for convenience and turns out my biggest mistake before travelling to HK. to set this on my wallet i paid 250HKD ( 円5,000 ) been debited to my account to my surprise it restarted it wants me to pay again. when i finally reached HK i asked the information center in Metro and insisted that if its not use during stay it will be return within 60days and mashaallah now its been a year and still has not return. what a scam.

Worked flawlessly

I’d heard previous versions of this app didn’t work well, so I was planning to buy a physical Octopus card in Hong Kong. But when I arrived at West Kowloon at 10:30 pm and the only kiosk for tourists wasn’t taking credit cards, I sure was glad that I had downloaded this app just in case! It was so easy to use for transportation and purchases, and I was able to top up in seconds from anywhere. I was even asked if I was a HK resident because I was able to top up and pay just like a local! After my trip, I got the balance refunded in just two days without any trouble. I’m very glad that I used the app instead of the physical card.

terrible app terrible support

landed in hong kong and added 300HKD, took the money from my account but no account was created. whatsapp ai agent is so useless and braindead wasn’t even useful and customer support was also terrible. told me to wait 2 months for a refund and couldn’t even initiate it yet. what a scam. then it wouldn’t let me add any more money either absolutely terrible app

思ってた以上に使えました

2026年8月に香港に行った際に使用しました。他の方のレビューを見て、あまり使いものにならないのかと期待していませんでしたが、Apple Payでのチャージも問題なくできたので、Octopusカードは購入せずにスマホだけで過ごせました。ただ、Appleウォレットでチャージしようとすると、普段Apple Payに登録しているクレジットカードを認識してくれなかったので、チャージはアプリ内のTop Upから行う必要がありました。この場合、最低チャージ金額がHK$300からなので、要注意です。

Topped up but failed to add card

I topped up 100 hkd with my US credit card but it showed an error while adding it to Apple Wallet, that’s it, and showed nothing after I backed to Home page.

Easy to use

I was initially a little bit hesitant to use this due to the below average rating. My personal experience is quite to the contrary. I was in HK for 7 days and I used it multiple times every single day without any issues. It is very convenient and refilling the account is simple and quick. I literally added funds to the account while waiting for the next bus on more than a few occasions. If you plan on using public transportation in HK, this is a must.

You will lose your money.

I have lost my money for not using it last time. Now I reinstall and they say service unavailable. The message is clear ! Foreigners are not welcome in HK !!! Here everybody will try to scam you, even the native paiement card !

6% Wechselkurs beim Aufladen ist teurer als jede Kreditkarte. Idee ist nett, aber so wird man ausgeraubt. Dann lieber einfach eine physische Octopus Karte mit Bargeld verwenden.

Absolute Scam

Just tried to set up a card on my iPhone, paid £35GBP (can see via Apple Pay transaction was successful on my card) and NOTHING from the App and NO support! If that’s not a scam I don’t know what is!!!

Cannot pay using Hong Kong dollars

Perhaps it’s me being difficult, but I have a payments card set up in HKD that I cannot use to pay since the app expects me to use a foreign currency and pay a fee to the bank every top up.
Tried setting up the standard octopus app but I need a Hong Kong phone for that.
Too bad, I’ll buy a physical card instead.

Lost my money and got no Octopus card

Total waste of money! I downloaded the app and paid for an Octopus card. My card was charged, but I got an error saying it couldn't be added to my Apple Wallet. The card doesn't show up in the app either. My bank said they can't help if the transaction goes through. Now I'm left without my money and without the card. Avoid this app!

Wouldn’t Top Up

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able top up like the other negative reviews. It allowed me to add 100hkd and then after that, nothing but errors. Fortunately, I was able to use ALL of the 100hkd. So I was golden for my short HK trip. However, my cousin said every 7/11 and circle K will top up for you. Might be the next best option besides physical card. I never got around to doing this though and I was afraid they may Include more fees.
