Removed friends
New update removed friends. I have a dozen friends who have downloaded this app to reduce screen time and now opal got rid of the feature. Their website says they will bring it back eventually but if you’re bringing new users to your app via referral codes and accountability among friends— thats probably not a feature you should get rid of and “bring back eventually”

used to be great, now buggy
this app still works for reducing screen time, but it freezes almost every time I use it. this becomes quite frustrating. i’ve had opal for a little over a year, and it’s gotten worse (especially a few months ago when it got a major update). I hope it will be fixed, because when it worked it indeed worked very well.

Loved this app, not a fan of the update
Hello! I have been using this app to help me with my screen time since junior year of highschool. It’s worked wonders. It’s my freshman year of college and I noticed there was an update and the way it’s works is different now. While some things are nice, like the pomodoro timer, the whole individual app unblocking does not work well. It’s 5 seconds of waiting every time and makes it wayyy easier to unlock apps you’re trying to stay off. This app unfortunately no longer does what it used to for me, hopefully they change it back someday!

Slow, Clunky, Too Many Bugs
Opal recently did a huge app refresh, largely for UI. Since the shift, the overload of unnecessary animations and options slow my phone to a halt when I open the app. It never runs smoothly, animations are constantly skipping and glitching. Now, when I try to reset a daily timer I go through the whole process and it gives me three additional seconds of time on my paused app, rather than 15. It’s infuriating and feels so unnecessary when their previous app ran more smoothly. I’m getting quite sick of it. I’m nearly to the 400 hour gem and I think I’ll get to that and then find a better alternative method for limiting my screen-time.

A godsend but also really laggy
This app has started giving me my life back, only issue is every time I open it it crashes and/or lags like hell. How can I fix this
Dislike new UI
Old UI lets you pause and shows you nature, but now it’s just a mechanical clock and you can’t pause. Also it’s quite confusing where I should go to do what overall. They’ve added so much unnecessary stuff that makes the app lose its identity and purpose.

Cannot delete this app
This app is dangerous. It will not allow me to delete the app. I had to undo all the permissions and then I could delete the app. The set up tricks into subscribing. These damn technocrats have no ethics. Do not install.
Not strict enough
I love this app but usually on the second time I have done the break option and finished my 15 minute break timer I dont get kicked off the app and end up doomscrolling as I dont realise. It should lock me out when my timer is finished
Does as advertised
Other than glitching or tweaking occasionally, Opal is a fantastic way to manage your screen time. It’s easy to set up and well designed.
I have found that its screen time reports are very inaccurate. It told me I’d been on my phone for 0m the whole day, which we all know isn’t true. But that isn’t a big deal, so… four stars. 😁

I have a new issue that I failed to mention before: the limit on selecting nine is frustrating. You can select more than one category, but if you go into a category to unselect certain apps, then all of the apps that were selected are now counted towards this 49 count limit. Additionally, you seem to be able to get away with adding apps over 49 during the initial set up, which is great; but then I find that sometimes I’ve overlooked an app and want to remove it from the blocked apps, at which point Opal complains that I’ve selected over 49 apps and won’t let me edit the rule. I’ve now done this set up process like 10 to 15 times which is deeply frustrating. Part of the reason I have to unselect categories and select visual apps or websites is because Opal keeps miscategorizing one of my preferred shopping websites under utilities, or some such. It would be great if a user could set custom categories, in order to get around the app limit, though I suspect this is incompatible with Apple’s API. Anyway, please fix! Thank you.

So buggy
I have repeatedly updated the app. I have updated my iOS. I have done restarts of my phone and double checked all settings. The inconsistency with this app is confusing. I’ve had times where it won’t block when it’s supposed to and other times where it will block things specified times. Most recent issue is it will block Facebook as instructed, but it also simultaneously blocks forums, which is a separate app from Meta without any kind of blocking order when I have specifically labeled it as “always allow”. It also gives completely false “reports.” I have used it for multiple months and randomly this week it said my previous week’s screen time was zero lol

Worth it
It really has cut down on my addiction to my stupid phone. I reach for my phone less out of habit now. Opal is amazing. I’m grateful my son introduced me to this app
Wish the screen time control was stronger
Can’t believe I’m stuck paying a $100 subscription for something I can just toggle off under my screen time in settings in 2 seconds
Hate the new update
I would love to see the app revert back to remove this update. I’ve been using the app over a year and this latest update ruined it. I dread having to use the app because it’s so laggy and the screen time and history isn’t even accurate. And I see they respond to these reviews with a very generic response saying to go into the settings and chat with support instead of just giving people what worked.

Poor performance
I’m pretty sure that this app is completely unusable to get you to stop using insta. If I want a 5m break it glitches out like it’s using 100% of my phones processor trying to figure out how tf it does the one thing it was made to do.
Anyway it works. Writing this review is more fun than trying to unblock instagram.

Re-downloaded and it’s still not good
I deleted the app after the last update over a month ago because it was too glitchy and confusing to navigate. I just re-installed the app with a new account and it’s told me I already have a 28-day streak and unlocked some gems while it’s literally been just 10minutes since I redownloaded. Honestly - what’s going on here?
