Unite the Apps

One app for everything, it’s how every other major city with public transit does it. Get it together Houston Metro.

Response from developer

Hi Mirahsan, Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your input and we'll take it into consideration as we make improvements to our apps. Thanks for choosing METRO.

Can’t buy ticket

This app does not work to pay for a ticket. I get to the final screen where it says “Buy Ticket”. Clicked button, nothing happens. I tried to do it through the website, website told me to use app. Tried app again, doesn’t work. I wish I would have known it wasn’t going to work before I got to the stop. Very disappointing and a huge waste of my time

Hello, The RideMETRO app doesn't have the option to purchase mobile tickets. Please download the METRO Q Mobile Ticketing app from the Apple App Store in order to purchase and use tickets. You can learn more by visiting our website at: www.ridemetro.org/riding-metro/apps/q-mobile-ticketing-app Thank you for choosing METRO.

Absolutely useless

Inaccurate information given about Park & Ride routes. Waited at specified bus stop for over 30 minutes (#631 from 8:50 am until 9:24 am). Finally a bus driver stopped and gave me advise on how to return to my Park & Ride because the route service won't even drive by #631 again until mid afternoon. So I went back to the stop I came in on (#619) and got on the bus I needed. THE APP cost me hours!!!! Of time. This kind of error is completely unwarranted and makes the APP Useless for anyone "not already in the know".

Hello, we're very sorry to hear about your experience. We'd like to get more information about this specific trip, such as the date and route number so we can investigate what happened. Please contact Customer Service at 713-635-4000. They're available daily between 8 a.m-5 p.m.. Thank you.

Absolute Garbage

Honestly, they should just take the money they’re paying to Metro and burn it, at least then it would provide warmth.

Useless

Everytime I try to figure out my route it never works…. Keep it simple stupid…

Response from developer

Hello, thank you for bringing this our attention. We're looking into why you're experiencing this issue and hope to have this resolved as quickly as possible.

Do not download!!!

This app is just as bad as the Houston drivers. It gives inaccurate stop times and there are no live updates. If you don’t know your way around Houston because you aren’t originally from here, this app won’t help you any.

Response from developer

Hi David, you can receive real-time updates via text by texting your stop ID followed by a space and the route number to 697433. The RideMETRO app also walks you through this process. If you'd like to track the bus or train on a live interactive map, you can download the METRO TRIP app from the Google Play or Apple App Store. You can find more information about METRO's apps and capabilities on our website: www.ridemetro.org/riding-metro/apps/overview. Thank you for choosing METRO.

Doesn’t work

1. I tried the plan your trip. Chose Cypress Park and Ride to downtown transit center on Wednesday March 15, 2023, arrival at 7:30 am and it told me to drive 39 minutes to Eastwood Park and Ride and Wall 1 h 11 m to my stop. That was the only option provided.

2. So I tried to view schedules:
I get a menu asking me what bus I will be riding. No map. No route. Just a list of bus numbers. So, i had to find my bus number somewhere else.

Ok…

So I figured out i’m the 217 park and ride. I click my day and direction. And click schedule. I get a list of times. It doesn’t say departure time, but that is presumably what it is. And it doesn’t provide arrival times.

I never found an arrival time. I stopped looking.

So questions
1. Why does the planner fail to show a basic heavily-used route on the schedule?

2. Why doesn’t the option schedule offer a link to a schedule table?

Anyway, this didn’t work for me. I’m not going to spend endless (and frustrating) time trying to understand it to make it work for me. I still don’t know the schedules. And I think I better drive.

Hello and thank you for your comment. Please ensure that the latest version of the app is installed on your phone as the trip planner was recently updated to provide better results. We’ll also consider your additional feedback for future enhancements to the app. Thank you for riding METRO.

You need 3 apps to accomplish less than nothing

Why waste your time on 1 app when you can waste triple the time on 3 to get even less done? If you attempt to use this app you will be directed to download another app. And then another. Crazy idea but try making one app that’s easy to use (!), allows someone unfamiliar with the Metro transit system to find what they’re looking for ( 😱), and then pay for their tickets.

It’s as if the Amazon app showed you their inventory but that was it. If you wanted more information you’d have to already know the UPC code for the item (oh but you’d need another app for that). Then if you wanted to buy the thing you’d have to download another app.

Hello. The specific technology associated with the two other apps (one being a trip planning app and the other an e-commerce app) are uniquely different and provided by separate vendors. Neither of those apps was developed by METRO. We've set up the RideMETRO app so that once those other apps are downloaded - a one-time process that takes about a minute or two - you can use the RideMETRO app to access either of those platforms with one click, originating from a single, consolidated menu in the same app. Thank you for your comment and thank you for riding METRO.

New Schedules effective 01-22-2023

When will the new PDF schedules get uploaded?

Response from developer

These schedules may not have been available for a brief time when certain routes weren't running after COVID began. They've been available ever since. Thanks for riding METRO.

Useless

Pretty useless. Can’t even see tomorrow’s schedule. I don’t know what you can do with this app…

Response from developer

2BAD-TO-USE - when you open the app, there's a Schedules option along the bottom menu. Please tap on that. It will bring up a screen that allows you to select your route. The next screen will then ask you to select the day you're traveling, the direction of your trip and your stop. You can then view the schedule for your specific stop, going in your intended direction on that day, on that route. Please let us know if you continue to experience issues and we'd be happy to try and assist. Thanks for riding METRO.

Useless

Why did you create the is app when you can’t give information directly? It always Ask you to go to another app. There are 3 apps for Houston metro. Who is behind these apps ? Don’t waste time. Use google map. Nothing more in this app.

Response from developer

Mstephb - thank you for your comment. The RideMETRO app was structured so that customers can conduct a variety of different activities in one app. Directly in the app, you can learn how to ride, plan your trip, track your bus, view route schedules, see current service alerts, contact METRO police and submit a comment or suggestion. With a prior download of the Q Ticketing app, the RideMETRO app connects you to mobile ticket purchases in one tap from the "Pay Your Fare" section. Because a variety of different features are required to make your trip as smooth as possible, the RideMETRO app brings this functionality together in one app so you don't need to toggle between apps in order to access these critical rider tools. We hope that explains the purpose of the app and how to best make use of it. If you have further questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Service team at 713-635-4000. They're available seven days a week, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thank you for riding METRO.

Black screen

I’ve downloaded it, deleted it, powered my phone on and off. Nothing works it is a black screen any time I open it. Useless!

Response from developer

hpsblue - we haven't experienced that issue. Please let us know if that's still happening when you use the app. Thanks for riding METRO.

Worst app ever

App only open to a black screen and never changes

Response from developer

Hi Juan - we haven't experienced that issue. Please let us know if that's still happening when you use the app. Thanks for riding METRO.

App crashes

The app crashes and closes when you press the blue button on “where’s my bus”

Response from developer

Hi Frank - we haven't experienced that issue. Please let us know if that's still happening when you use the app. Thanks for riding METRO.

Helps a lot

I use this app almost everyday and it has been a good help.

Response from developer

Hi, Nick - thank you for posting such a great review and please accept our apologies for not having responded to this when you initially posted it. Thank you for riding METRO.

Useless on its own

This app mainly serves as a directory to other apps. Rather than provide information directly, it requires you to open the Q Mobile Ticket App, The TRIP App, the twitter app, or the safari app to get any meaningful information. In addition, the schedules included in the app are just pdf links. If you have all these apps and are looking for one place to access them, this may be helpful to you. Otherwise, it feels kind of useless
