You have to register as a pro to connect to Bluetooth

I’m not sure how this oversight occurred but to be able to actually connect to a tankless water heater that has Bluetooth, you must create a professional account and tell the app that you install water heaters otherwise if you register as a consumer, you will NOT see the option to connect to Bluetooth. Also you cannot control the settings of the water heater unless you go through a “quick setup” each time and the app says the warranty can be voided if you don’t give it the “correct information” whatever that means. I cannot believe the lack of usability of this app. You might as well not have it.

Finally seems fixed

After a year of fighting connectivity issues with this app, it finally seems like they may have finally fixed it. It’s been working for a while now. Whoever has been working on all of the recent app updates, it’s very much appreciated

Laughably terrible

This is a absolutely terrible app. After spending $100 for the wifi module i am shocked at how terrible this is. The metrics it gives you are delayed to the point of uselessness. I wont buy another Rinnai thats for sure.

Fix your garbage app

Zero. Worst app and customer service ever. Avoid at all costs if considering a tankless water heater.

The app doesn’t connect

Horrible, it doesn’t work. I’ve tried repeatedly to use the serial number and registered the product but it continues. He says it’s an invalid serial number.

I don’t care to have notifications

Quit trying to force me into adding notifications to the stupid app

Easy upgrade, mostly good UI improvements, but… (updated 5/3/26, see bottom)

I discovered this new app and installed it. Upon logging in to the account originally created for Control*R, Rinnai Central immediately found my two water heaters, downloaded the schedules with complete accuracy, and noted the fact that one was in vacation mode. Excellent upgrade behavior! The UI is pretty easy to use and straightforward, although there are some useless advertisements and promotions on the homepage. My issues are: 1) The manual recirculation still does not work, in fact, it seems to be even worse than the Control*R 2.0 app after it degraded to 5 minutes max. 2) Options for manual recirculation are very coarse. It jumps from two hours to four hours, but I really need closer to 2 1/2 hours to run the dishwasher. The UI is easier than Control*R, but functionality has decreased. 3) This is a quibble, but after losing granular control for manual recirculation, the app provides up to the exact minute settings for schedules. This is awkward to use, and, at least for me, offers minimal value over the 15 minute increments on Control*R. Why wouldn't 5 minute intervals be adequate? The interface would be much easier to use! Overall a good step forward, and I anxiously await the fix for manual recirculation! Update 9/12/23: I downloaded the new version that was supposed to fix the instant recirculation feature. I stood next to the heater and started instant recirc … nothing happened. I started it using the old ControlR app and it started. NOT FIXED!! Update 11/19/23. Downloaded version 3.1.4(4) and still cannot control manual recirculation! STILL NOT FIXED!!
Update 3/2/26: the server was down over the weekend and couldn’t login or control the Rinnai. Before I called for support this morning I tried once again on both Rinnai Central and Control-R. They both worked. Far more importantly, both recirc now and get status worked on Rinnai Central for the very first time!!!!! Maybe there’s hope for the flower after all. Give it a try again and report back here so we all can know.
Update 5/1/26: Major visual design changes on version 5 home screen. (Following statement not true, see update below—Return to home screen after selecting from more than one heater is not simple as before, requires accessing menu then selecting personal account.) Lost a star from my rating.
Update 5/3/26: discovered a black on black left arrow in the upper left corner on a heater’s page. It returns you to the main home page. Putting the star back.

Keeps asking to accept notifications

Before I can use the app, it asks to turn on notifications even though I have selected no notifications. It is an extra step for an app that already has extra steps, just to use the circulate option.

New Version 5.01 - Just as Broken

You do get a confirmation from the app when firmware successfully updates - I think that’s new. Of course, you have no idea whether the new firmware is any different than the old firmware because the version isn’t reported (seems just as fragile, but this is Rinnai). Otherwise, nothing else seems different. Same unwavering commitment to maximizing the amount of cold water poured down the drain.

Doesn’t work

You have to enter a bunch of personal information to use this to run a device you already own, then it won’t connect so it doesn’t matter. (But they already have your info.)

Updates are great!!

Thanks for the latest updates. Working much better.

Terrible app

Either the app or the actual module are terrible. The app shows that the WiFi connection is lost multiple times a week and sometimes per day which requires power cycle from the module to reconnect. Works less than 40% of the time.

Really

App was updated to clean up and get rid of non pro accounts making it harder for the homeowner to make changes on the unit

Rinnai Installers said app and module were trash

I just had a RXP199 installed by the largest installer in the area. The installers said the app and module were trash and don’t waste my time. As bad as it is Rinnai has ignored these problems and has not fixed anything in a year. If you plan to fix or not to fix you should tell us.

Useless

App is useless. Can’t add units. Bluetooth doesn’t work. Asks for unnecessarily personal information. I just want to change the temp on my home’s water heater. I shouldn’t have to provide a corporation with my phone number. And if I do, the equipment should actually work.

Does not work AT ALL

Terrible app. Can’t believe the company does nothing to fix it. Ask ChatGPT and it will tell you the app sucks. You are not alone having zero success controlling your unit. Had I know I would never had bought a Rinnai system. Complete garbage

Useless for homeowners

Apparently only professionals are able to connect to Bluetooth or WiFi module which is a backwards policy. They will only need the feature intermittently. I, the homeowner, will need the capability frequently. Truly mind-boggling product design.

Totally useless

What great potential, yet a missed opportunity. You can’t do anything unless you have a wireless module. Then, if you do decide to lay out the extra $200 or so, a homeowner still can’t do anything! The tankless water heater has built in Bluetooth, but Rinnai reserves that for pro installers only. Would be nice to at least access via Bluetooth just to see what your settings are! No. Folks, don’t waste your time.

Run Away

Any company that makes an app this bad and useless and misleading should not get any business. Period. I have serious buyers remorse. RUN AWAY!

Trash

If I could give this app 0 stars, I would’ve. Why bother putting out an app?? This is appsolutely garbage.
