City does not respond to submissions

The city does not respond to any requests for cleanup either through this app or via email. Recommend you go and buy a gallon of paint and do it yourself.

Great app

Yes, the UI lacks polish but the responsiveness of the city is fantastic!

Meh.

Broken. Won't take photos.

Awkward to use and buggy

Great idea; lousy implementation. Home screen simply says "Submit a request." A request for what??? Following screen lists surfaces. OK, this must be for graffiti. Why not say the request is for reporting graffiti??? Next screen says "Take photos." If you click the camera icon, you can take a photo, but be warned: If you get the fatal error later on, "Failed to upload," your photo has not been saved, and you have to start over, including taking another photo. Also, the camera icon does not allow you to use any of the phone's camera options, such as flash or lighting. It's much better to use the phone's own camera app and then import the photo into the SJ Clean app (use the "Photo" icon instead of the "Camera" icon. Next you get to write a "Helpful Note." At least that works, but again, if you get the "Failed to Upload" error, your note is lost and you start over... Next, you get a map of your location. No instructions, but it's not hard to figure out that you move the map to set the crosshair at the graffiti's location. Finally, you get to enter your name, email, and phone number. Then, after all that, you get a summary screen and can press submit. I have submitted requests for three separate graffiti incidents using this app, and every time the app has "Failed to Upload." Using a home wifi connection makes no difference. Leaving the app running, hoping that it will successfully upload, makes no difference. There is no indication whether the upload is still running or has succeeded until some hours later when the error message "Failed to Upload" pops up. This app should be called a crapp.

Easy and it gets results!

This app is remarkably easy to use to report graffiti in San Jose, and the city cleans it up really fast! The area around my workplace looks considerably better since I used this app to report all the graffiti.

Out of jurisdiction

One problem with this app is that when an issue is out of their jurisdiction, they tell you to contact the other city. This is fine if you were reporting an issue in New York.... I get it. But,... If you are reporting an issue in Los Gatos, a town over, I am sure they know the right people over there better than we ever would?

Needs More Features

Please add email addresses to all the Contacts. Why list a phone or website to contact? It would be great to send in through app or email.

Excellent app, excellent service!

This app is easy to use and very effective, especially for graffiti removal. Simply take a photo and your phone's GPS will pinpoint its exact location; follow the instructions and send it in. The city has always erased the graffiti within 48 hours. To top it off, they give you a "before" and "after" photo, so you can see the positive impact you're having on the city.

Outstanding!

Best app on my phone. Help clean up your city with a click of your phone. I report stuff at 8am and it's done by 1:00pm. Love this app.

2.7.3 Update fixes map big!

Don't know why it wasn't listed in the bug fixes, but the Oct 2014 update fixed the bug with not being able to auto add GPS info into reported graffiti tags for CPC to spray over.

This fix makes the app usable again. Wish other city departments would get on board with in app reporting with photos, text and GPS reporting of shopping carts, broken sidewalks, abandoned vehicles, litter, code enforcement, homeless encampments, etc.

Poor app!

This app used to be really good. Since the update, you can no longer report litter by taking a photo and uploading it with the GPS. The only feature this app works for us reporting graffiti! All other features just provides a phone number to call in to. Who wants to wait all day for a rep to finally answer the phone? Come on SJ we can do better than this. Please fix this, or give us back our old app; at least that one worked!

Not working

Had high hopes for this app since I have chronic dumping and gang tagging in my neighborhood. I reported some illegal dumping activity last Nov. and months later, still no clean up. Got tired of waiting and ended up cleaning the junk up myself.
They must be on their lunch break!

Fast response to graffiti

I have reported graffiti and a landscape maintenance issues at a local park. The graffiti was cleaned up within days and I received an email when it was done. The maintenance took a little longer but it got done eventually.

2 word review: crap app

Would've been good back in the 1980s, a throwback to one-way Web 1.0. The government of the City of San Jose knows that it's in Silicon Valley, I hope? Open government apps like See Click Fix etc are far better for democracy. Now there's a good case for privatization.

Great Graffiti Service

I have been using this app over the summer and IT IS MY FAVORITE APP.

I get up early and walk around the block in my neighborhood frequently. When I find graffiti, I report it with this app and get reports back when the graffiti has been removed (painted over).

It takes less than 30 seconds to click through the reporting options, add a photo and submit the report. The completion reports come with before and after shots and can be via SMS/email.

I thank the City of San Jose for having a great graffiti removal program that is speedy and efficient

Ineffective

On Monday July 8th, I submitted a photo & report about illegal dumping. Today is Friday July 12th & the dumped items have yet to be cleaned up. IMO, the app is useless.

Great application - city council info needs updating

Very intuitive application - makes it easy to report graffiti.

One glaring issue, however, is the fact that the City Council tab hasn't been updated since last election with the new term end dates.

Works Great!

I have reported roughly ten graffiti issues and never had a problem. Really streamlines the process nicely and best of all the contractor is removing the graffiti in quick fashion.

Awesome when it works

It is a great tool when it works. Since the Dec 2012 update, it crashes on open every time. Now it is useless.

Great concept, needs work

Hangs too much
Too modal. Why is offensive a separate page? Photos are geotagged, assume their address is good unless I tell you otherwise. Don't require a text box entry (two cliks).

Ideally: one BIG Button To take a photo.
Then you can keep tapping add photo. Have the type and comments all on one page. Submit in the background so I can keep working, submitting other things. Don't have a cancel button that I keep mistakenly hitting.

Broken on iOS 6 with 3GS.
