Either I was given an old style card from the shop when I recently signed up or the app is out of date. The field prompting me to verify my card asks for an ID number or to scan a barcode on the card. My card has no barcode and the app fails to verify the ID number. Best option if you want to have the card to hand at all times; take a picture of it instead of using the app.
