What's New in Sofa

5.2.1

July 10, 2026

Hey gang, 5.2 is a big one...a much improved podcast player, a new Enjoying tab, and a ton of improvements throughout. IMPROVEMENTS FOR 5.2.1 ============================ - Importing your history no longer floods Enjoying with shows you finished years ago — only recently watched shows are tracked automatically, and the rest import ready to track whenever you want. - Sofa is now much faster for large libraries — quicker Enjoying refreshes, smoother Logbook view switches, and less background work during iCloud sync. - Fixed a crash on Mac when resizing the window or transitioning the sidebar. - CSV imports misreading Excel-formatted dates (like "9-Feb-14") as ancient years — they now import as the correct date. WHAT'S NEW ============================ PODCAST PLAYER - Listen as a Series — follow any podcast like a TV show, in order from the beginning. Progress ring, dedicated series view (Up Next / Played / Skipped), and a new CarPlay Series tab. - The player is now fully free — chapters, per-show settings, and Voice Boost unlocked for everyone. - New per-podcast settings: playback speed, voice boost, seek intervals, Skip Intro, and Skip Outro. - Chapters now include artwork, scrubber markers (iOS 26+), and auto-parsing from show notes. - New Up Next controls: choose whether new episodes land at the top or bottom, globally or per podcast. Each playlist now keeps its own sort, including manual drag order, synced across devices. - New settings: Smart Resume, Auto Play Next Episode, Only Play Downloaded Episodes, and 21 playback speeds (1.0×–3.0× in 0.1× steps). ENJOYING TAB - A dedicated home for in-progress items — shows, books, games, and more. - Smart views surface the right things: Finish Tonight, On a Roll, and Dusty. - Sort by time remaining or units left. - TV shows can display a "time left" estimate right on the item. - Everyone can now track up to 2 items for free; Super Sofa includes unlimited. SEARCH One global search, one tap from any tab — or ⌘K. Searches your library first, lets you add new items from the same place. SETTINGS SYNC Nearly every preference now syncs with iCloud. Set it once, it's everywhere. TV SHOW TRACKING Collapsible seasons, a Hide Spoilers mode, a choice of progress display (Percent, Watched count, or Remaining), and a new "Caught Up" Smart List filter. LOGBOOK Log Again brings back one-tap re-logging. Repeated Quick Log taps, podcast episodes, and TV episodes now bundle into tidy collapsed rows instead of flooding the day with separate entries. TV episodes group by season by default. MORE - TV Time import now supports the official GDPR export — full episode-level watch history, rewatches, movies, and custom lists. - Smart Lists can now filter by title (contains, equals, excludes) and support multi-range filters. - Notes can show as a compact "Little Icon" instead of a full inline card. - New "Date Edited" sort. New "Course" checkpoint type. Default checkpoint type per media category. - Custom categories can be assigned to Enjoying groups. CHANGES & IMPROVEMENTS ============================ - Letterboxd import now brings over written reviews as Notes on each film. - Select All in Up Next for quick bulk actions. - Sofa now restores your last-used tab and podcast mini player position on reopen. - Tappable toasts — tap the confirmation banner to jump to what you just changed. - Finished TV shows now correctly resurface in Enjoying when new seasons arrive. - Fixed "snap back to Completed" on shows marked incomplete. - Podcast episodes no longer appear under "Unknown Podcast" or show up twice in Played history — these repair automatically. - Sorting on Smart Lists filtered to Logbook items now works correctly. - Planner dates appearing a day early for users in time zones ahead of UTC. As always, don't hesitate to reach out with feedback, issues, and suggestions. I'm always happy to hear from you: support@sofahq.com – Shawn

No video games!

I downloaded it for video games. especially console games. But the search doesn’t work for that. Useless app for gamers.

Fantastic app for all your tracking needs

The 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 updates have been incredible and I no longer need several apps to track my books, tv shows, music, games, and podcasts. The developer has been responsive and added features I’ve asked for too. Worth your subscription for sure.

Just gets better

Super engaged developer, every update brings carefully thought out enhancements. Love it!

Hard to use interface, many books can’t be matched from goodreads

Settings is buried under lists, why? And when you first open the app it advertises a bunch of new features then gives no explanation on how to use them. This app is really annoying to use. Once I finally figured out how to import goodreads, hundreds of my books did not have matches despite them being popular bestsellers from the last few years. And with these items without a match, there is no option to search for the item to match or create a custom item. It just suggests a couple items to match which are never correct.

Basic??

At its core, this is a very basic app. While it does bring all your media together in one place, it doesn’t really stand out. When you add movies, there are no community or critic reviews… just a summary and cast information. You can create “recipes” to add your own ratings and other details, but the overall experience feels limited.

The app reminds me of the early days of the App Store, when simply having the basic functionality was enough. It works, but it lacks the depth, features, and community elements that many similar apps offer today. Not worth the subscription.
