Garbage Service! DO NOT USE!
This cannot be categorized as a service, but a Ponzi scheme. My children are battling with mental health issues, and we immediately came to BetterHelp as the premier option. After filling out the applicable information we were forwarded to TeenCounseling.com and we created an account for our children. First, they do not allow multiple children to be in one account. Instead, you are expected to create multiple email accounts (for both parents and children). When I registered my son, I was billed at a weekly rate of $65. After creating a separate account for my daughter, I was billed at a monthly rate of $360. To add insult to injury, they stated that it was due to me changing my zip code….really?!
My son was the first to convey his thoughts to the “licensed professional”. After writing a sonnet of mental chaos, this therapist responded with, “ok.” I confronted both BetterHelp and TeenCounseling about this and they do not have a phone option, only email. Tell me, how can you effectively engage with desperate parents with an inbox? Unless your aim is to garner profits, you cannot! Despite days of waiting and trying to connect our five accounts (three adult and two teen), we could not connect our children for treatment.

Highly recommend!
This platform has been so easy to use but at the same time very secure! There are what seem to be hundreds of therapists to choose from after reviewing their profiles and credentials. Very happy so far!
Great first appointment
Our 15 year old teen daughter was struggling with intrusive thoughts after seeing video clips of a scary movie and then would see other Tik Toks and Reels regarding this movie in which her thoughts increased in the matter of just a few days. Despite encouragement and support from her family, we determined she needed additional help from an outside source through counseling. Trying to find an in person counselor is what I prefer; but to find an available therapist or to wait 2 weeks was too long. I remembered the commercials about BetterHelp and started that online process which was simple to begin. In less than 24 hours a counselor was matched with us based on our inquiry and we had a virtual appt scheduled the next day. The first meeting with our counselor was great and my daughter immediately was able to share her thoughts with a caring counselor who also provided 2 coping techniques within the first session with plans for a follow up meeting. I could see immediate hope in our daughter’s eyes. Looking forward to our future appointments.

NOT THERAPY
If you want to pay full price for sessions with a chat bot, this is the therapy for you! No live sessions, no video sessions, no voice, no personality, no connection… just texting. You can cover 1/10 of what you would cover in a live session at 100% of the price. What a deal!! Stick with Better Help - this is a COMPLETE WASTE of money.

Very poor service
The first session was postponed even though the full monthly amount was taken, £240. And then when we finally had a session, there was no information on how my son would connect (no join meeting button) meaning he had to use my phone. Then, the therapist couldn’t hear or see us and then stopped responding and ended the video call about 15 minutes after the scheduled start even though we kept trying! We all experienced connection issues during Covid so the expectation is to keep trying for the entire session. Prior to all of this, there was a total lack of communication from the therapist. I do not recommend this service. We are from the U.K., so not sure if that makes a difference as many poor reviews appear to be from U.K. people.
Update-
After a request of change of therapist (as communication was non existent), the new therapist’s availability is 2am, 3am and 2pm U.K. time. None of these are suitable.

Flexibility and Access
There are so many different therapists available and they are SO flexible with their schedules. They really want to help and they really want to meet your teen where they are. If you have a teen who is reluctant to try talk therapy, I cannot say enough about this platform. It is private. It is always available. It can make all the difference.

Worst service ever. Don’t waste your money.
I tried this app to get counseling for my teen, and although we paid for the month we only ever managed to get one session in with the therapist. She either always never replied to questions, asked to reschedule, just reschedule without even asking, and the last session we tried to do she completely ghosted us without explanation. My complaint to customer service also went unanswered! This app is ridiculous and a waste of time and money.

Therapists Are Unprofessional
The therapist that I was supposed to meet with canceled on me, their patient, less than an hour before the first meeting. They wasted one of the days where I don’t work or have school. Which I only get maybe once every two weeks. Showing an obvious lack of respect for me and my time.

Therapist Kyleigh Moldovan is THE BEST fit for our family. We had a plan for success within weeks. She’s helping our family as well as our teen. Her connection and experience with our teen has been so successful. He enjoys the zoom / video platform for privacy but then he receives a high quality and experienced therapist. This has been a winner and a game charger for our teen plus three.

I’ve already voiced my concerns over being charged weekly when the counselors don’t have availability for 3 weeks. Support let me know that I should have read the fine print before purchasing and extended my membership for 10 days to “help allow for time to connect with a therapist”. If you enjoy meeting with a different counselor every week and never get beyond an initial interaction, this is the app for you. Not exactly conducive to teens who take a while to warm up. 0/10 do not recommend.
