What's New in Things 3 for iPad

3.23.1

August 27, 2026

Repeating to-dos just got far more flexible, with two highly requested improvements: You can now complete them early, and easily reschedule them when plans change! Plus many more refinements throughout. COMPLETE REPEATING TO-DOS EARLY Sometimes you’re ahead of schedule and want to tick something off early. Now you can! A repeating to-do now shows a normal checkbox – just like any other to-do – so you can complete it as soon as it’s done. RESCHEDULE WITH EASE Repeating to-dos can now be rescheduled, which makes it easy to adapt when plans change. Simply bump it to a new date. If it repeats on a fixed schedule, Things will ask whether you want to make a one-time exception, or update the rule going forward. If it repeats after completion, it simply moves to the new date. MORE REFINEMENTS We’ve made a number of other refinements: • The repeating to-do setup dialog has received a visual refresh, and lets you more easily pick the next recurrence date. • A copy of a repeating to-do now shows a little gray repeat icon to distinguish it from regular to-dos. • If you want to start working on a repeating project early, you now can! As soon as you start editing its to-dos, Things will offer to create the next copy of the project ahead of time. • You can manually create the next copy of a repeating to-do ahead of time: expand the to-do, tap its repeat rule, then tap Create Next Copy. • You can now pause, resume, and stop multiple repeating to-dos at once. • Fixed a bug where enabling Mail to Things in Settings didn’t work. • More bug fixes and improvements – see our website for the full release notes. --- Last but not least, this update includes a big change under the hood that we’ve been working on for some time: the display and editing of to-dos – both inside lists and when you expand them – is now driven by the same code on Mac and iOS. --- Things now requires iPadOS 16.4 or later. --- NEW IN 3.23.1 • Removed the parent list’s label from each row in the Repeating list. • Fixed a bug where Get Info didn’t work for project headers. • Fixed a bug where text could appear at a slightly incorrect size when using a non-default text size. • Fixed an animation glitch that could occur when dragging and dropping on the latest OS beta. • Fixed a minor issue with the Japanese localization.

Version 3.22.11: bug report + my fave to-do app + how to make it better

BUG: When the iPad is dropped an “Undo Changes” dialogue box shows up. Please fix.

NOTE: this review is about the iPad-only app.

PROS:
The people who rave about how terrific it looks are right - it has a clean and simple design that works.

The plus button is a joy to use - being able to drag it to where I want to insert a task is the sort of user-friendly feature that Apple users will like.

I like how dragging the plus button to the bottom-left allows you to quickly add a task to the Inbox, so that the task doesn’t get lost in whatever checklist you happen to be on.

Lots of options: tags, reminders, repeats, due dates, deadlines… You can even add a checklist to a task that’s in a checklist. I keep it simple, but if you want it complicated, this app can handle it.

The syncing function (“Things Cloud”) is very fast - every device is synced within a few seconds.

I like the headlines feature - it’s a great way to split up a checklist into sections and make it easier to navigate.

The Dark Theme is easy on the eyes - every app should have this option.

The order of checklists syncs, so that you only have to change the order once, instead of on all devices.

The search function works fast and is available from every screen, not just the home screen.

HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER:
Allow us to hide individual sections at the top of the app: Today, Upcoming, Anytime, Someday, Logbook - I don't use them, so they just get in the way.

Add the option to have tasks, when moved to another project, appear at the top instead of the bottom.

Add spellcheck.

Add the option to sort tasks alphabetically.

Add the option to pin tasks to the top of the checklist.

If a task is created but it contains nothing, it should automatically be deleted.

Support Dynamic Type (in Settings) so that we increase the size of the text.

When moving a task, the second option is “No Project” - that should be renamed “Anytime” because that’s where it goes.

Add the option to undo actions.

In Settings-Things Cloud there is an option called “Edit Account” - but the only options are change password and delete account. Change the option to “Change Password/Delete Account” so that we don’t have to sign in to know this.

Add the option to make the search-bar always visible.

Add direct syncing with Google Calendar, for those of us who don’t use Apple’s default Calendar app.

Tags should be handled better - for example, I should be able to tap on a tag and see all tasks with the same tag.

Add the ability to share (for example, an app’s link from the App Store) to the Things app.

If you’re searching two terms, they have to be in the same order for results to show up. Make it so that the order doesn’t matter.

Add information about the “Things 3 for iPad” app, so we know why we should buy it instead of using the Things 3 iPhone app on the iPad.

CONCLUSION: I’ve used several to-do apps, and this is my favourite one - 5 stars.

WELL THOUGH THOUGHT OUT & FLAWLESS.

Things has helped me manage my life - personal and professionally since it first started over 10 yrs ago. I’ve tried other apps and nothing comes close to THINGS. I’d have serious problems w/o it. Thank you TEAM THINGS! You all are awesome in building and continually improving it!

Great app! Brilliant design!

Things 3 is a great app. It is beautiful and thoughtfully designed, with a lot of great features. It is both simple to use and deep, and handles changing circumstances well. The developers have continued a strong, sustained pace in adding features that seems both disciplined and graceful. It can be adapted to be used in many ways. I am a big advocate of David Allen and GTD, but you don’t have to know anything about it to be very productive with Things. I always feel that Things is working with me to make sure everything is taken care of. It is an insanely great app. Seven stars, at least.

It’s the best

Every time I open this app I feel like rerating it 5 stars

Brilliant

As a simple personal task/project manager this app is quite excellent. No teams, no analysis just simple reminders of things that need to be done. Total integration with Outlook if required and will combine your calendar and tasks into daily To Dos. Cannot recommended it more highly.
