gas card is always a problem

While I love the ability to book a car and go, I always end up having to pay for gas out-of-pocket because none of the gas stations around me accept cards without chips. Which sucks because now I’m paying for the car plus the gas, when that shouldn’t be the case. Other than that, the cars could be cleaner. But overall, happy to have the service available.

Unbelievable

I honestly cannot believe how I was treated by Zipcar.
I had been using Zipcar almost DAILY, primarily for business trips. It was a service I relied on regularly, and I had built it into my routine because I needed reliable transportation for work.

Then, out of nowhere, my account was deactivated because of outstanding fees. Fine — I paid the fees. I took care of what I owed because I wanted to continue using the service.

But instead of restoring my account, Zipcar PERMANENTLY banned me.

Wait… what?! 🤯

So let me get this straight: I had been a frequent, paying customer using your service almost every day for business, I paid the fees that were owed, and your solution was to permanently ban me anyway?

And it gets even worse.

When I contacted a representative to try to understand what was happening and see if there was anything I could do, the representative was EXTREMELY rude and dismissive. I was literally told, quote on quote, to “have fun without Zipcar.”

Seriously?!

That is how you speak to a customer who has relied on your service for business transportation?

I wasn't asking for special treatment. I simply wanted an explanation and an opportunity to resolve the situation. Instead, I was treated like my business meant absolutely nothing.

After using Zipcar almost daily, paying my fees, and being a loyal customer, getting permanently banned AND spoken to that way by a representative is absolutely unbelievable.

Needless to say, I will never look at Zipcar the same way again. If this is how they treat customers who actually use and pay for their service, they have some serious customer service issues to address.

“Have fun without Zipcar.”

They then proceed to tell me to reach out to them on social media platform just to give me the same run around answer and can’t disclose the details of why they closed my account all they can say is it’s closed lol Zipcar is a JOKE they will fall one day as they already are.. where is Zipcar competitor 😂

Less and less value

When I signed up for zip car a few years ago it was great. There were 3 cars in walking distance of my neighborhood and reserving one was easy. In the years since they’ve slowly trimmed that to 1 car which was harder to reserve because it was the only one in the neighborhood so it booked out frequently. Now they’re getting rid of that last car in my neighborhood after next week. The next nearest car is a lengthy public transit ride away. What’s the point of keeping my account? It’s no more convenient than a standard rental car now.

God Forbid you need Customer Service

Convenient until you have to interact with customer service, then they send you around in circles like they have no idea what’s going on with their own platform. After two hours of trying to book and trying to deal with an issue on their platform with their support agents, I gave up. I could have taken the bus there by now.

Trust me — I will. 😒

Horrible service

Called to ask a few questions can’t hear them can’t hear them accents and they said no refund even though I had to cancel it because of emergency no flexibility at all.

Denied

I was denied and then I was informed that the $27 fee I had to pay was non refundable. They didn’t give any explanation for the denial.

Keeps removing my account

Zipcar keeps removing my account and I don’t know why. The very first time I applied I got to the end of the application and I was denied. I don’t know why! I use a different email and create a new account a few days later. The account was working for about a day and then was removed! I meet all the requirements. I do not know why they keep removing my account. Customer support couldn’t tell me anything at all! This is ridiculous! I’m in college and need a car to get to and from to my internship!

Late fees and poor quality control

Company charges late fees even for being 1 minute late. Meanwhile their cars have quality control issues and users must take photos of any prior interior/exterior damage which ends up taking up time.

Buggy to the point you can’t use it

Horrible app, it’s so buggy I’ve lost so many chances to read something

A Smelly Car and No Lightning Port — Seriously?

I almost ended up spending nearly $200 for a single day with Zipcar, and the experience wasn’t worth it. The car I received smelled dirty the moment I got in, and it was honestly unpleasant to drive. On top of that, the car didn’t even have a proper lightning port to charge my phone — only an old USB port, which is ridiculous for the price they charge.

For what Zipcar costs now, the quality should be much higher. Between the smell, the outdated charging setup, and the steep pricing, this rental did not feel like a good value.

No cars in my area of Montclair NJ even though app said they had cars

Booking up to 4 weeks in advance no vehicles available in the entire state of New Jersey searched multiple location with different ZIP Codes and different addresses based off locations recommended on the app Montclair University, Jersey City at Newport Mall no vehicle. Had to pay a $25 application fee just to use the app to find out that there’s no vehicles in my area.

Charges

They charge you a non-refundable application fee and then can deny you.

Scam likely

4 months after I rented a car from zip car, I was charged for a parking violation that I was not responsible for. In addition, the violation was for $25 but zip charged $70 for the violation and $30 processing fee totaling $100. They didn’t reverse the charge until I made a bbb complaint and disputed with my bank. They had every intention on robbing me of $100.

Not reliable.

They will cancel at the worst possible time. Only use if you don’t mind last minute change of plans.

Convient

If you don’t have enough for a weekly rental then this is a good option for daily use for gig workers. They need a weekly option and to do better on maintenance of the vehicles

Not worth it

It is overpriced and support is terrible. They are not helpful whatsoever. I chose a promotion and got charged anyways. They denied it existed. I would not recommend to anyone. I could have just rented a car for a whole day from a real place for the same amount it cost me for 1 hour here

Wouldn’t reccomend

Outside of the conveniences of all most, all ways being able to rent a car. They try to nickel & dime you for everything. If I rent a car for full day I get 200 miles, if I extend the rental for another full day and go over 200 miles on that first day they charge you instead of the miles rolling over into the extra 200 miles you just paid $130+ for. You’re late it’s a fee. You don’t fill up the tank to what the demand it’s a fee even tho gas is free. You need customer supports help & not an A.I bot it’s a fee. Truthfully not worth it

Awful service with damaged cars

Awful service would not recommend. I showered up and the car I booked had no side view mirror. They gave me a significantly smaller car that did not fit my needs and did not give me any sort of refund. Do not book with this company!

Cars Not Ready

I went through three cars before I got on the road. The first car, the battery was low and the gears refused to shift. The second car, the key was missing. The third car, had an incompatible charger and I couldn’t match my phone with the car.

When I arrived, there was an illegal car parked in the Zip Car Zone.
