Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Powerpay Self Service at 4.8 against Zonos's 3.2. Powerpay Self Service also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (183 vs 27). Zonos's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 6 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Powerpay Self Service holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Powerpay Self Service has 183 ratings behind it against 27, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 5% of Powerpay Self Service's written reviews are positive against 7% of Zonos's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Powerpay Self Service ships an update every 6 months, Zonos every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
