Underground Service Alert of Southern California (USA/SC) aka DigAlert was formed on September 13, 1976 in response to a deadly accident that had taken place in Culver City three months earlier. A petroleum pipeline was accidentally breached by a construction crew working on Venice Blvd and the resulting explosion took the lives of nine people. Additionally, an entire city block was burned to the ground and millions of dollars in damages were caused by this incident. The spark that ignited this deadly inferno quickly became the impetus behind a movement to prevent these tragic accidents. USA/SC is the result of that effort and has been serving this part of California ever since. Keep yourself up to date with our latest advancements in technologies by downloading the DigAlert app with tons of useful tools for homeowners and contractors such as: - Web Update of tickets - View expiring tickets - DigAlert Express - Newtin ETA - Access Emergency / Vacuum Contacts Remember, find out FIRST, contact 811 before you dig. It's the law.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
311 Riverside holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: 311 Riverside has 2.7K ratings behind it against 88, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 43% of 311 Riverside's written reviews are positive against 68% of DigAlert's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
311 Riverside ships an update every 2 months, DigAlert every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
