Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: GMX at 17K against freenet Mail's 97. GMX also leads on rating (4.7 vs 4.4). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. GMX sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and freenet Mail sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
GMX holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GMX has 17K ratings behind it against 97, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 77% of GMX's written reviews are positive against 80% of freenet Mail's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly fortnightly. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
