ESET Secure Authentication is an easy-to-install, deploy, and manage, multi-factor authentication (MFA) solution for businesses. The additional factor—received or generated by the mobile app—complements and strengthens the standard authentication process and secures access to your company’s systems and data. The ESET Secure Authentication app allows you to: - Receive push notifications on your device that you can approve to complete authentication - Generate one-time passwords to use alongside your username and password - Add a new account simply by scanning a QR code Supported integrations: - Microsoft Web Apps - Local Windows logins - Remote Desktop Protocol - VPNs - Cloud services via AD FS - Mac/Linux - Custom apps Multi-factor authentication is a combination of two or more security factors—“something the user knows” (e.g., a password), “something the user has” (such as a mobile phone to generate a one-time password or receive a push notification), and even “something the user is” (when approving push notifications via biometrics). Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Freshdesk at 4.5 against ESET Secure Authentication's 3.2. Freshdesk also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (3K vs 30). ESET Secure Authentication's advantage is monetization model (free vs freemium). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Freshdesk holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Freshdesk has 3K ratings behind it against 30, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 30% and 30% positive.
ESET Secure Authentication ships an update every 6 months, Freshdesk weekly. Both last shipped on October 1, 2026.
