Award-winning, super simple and intuitive scout advancement tracking. Designed and built by a scoutmaster specifically to help scouts advance without bogging them down with paperwork. It will quickly give you a view into the status of your troop broken down by scout, rank, merit badge, and even by each requirement. (It can be really handy for parents too) It helps answer the constant questions: "What should we work on?" "What is his status?" It can also be used by individuals to track their own progress. I have been using this for my own troop for quite some time and it was a big hit with the boys at scout camp. They earned several extra merit badges just because it was so easy to see what needed to be done and get it signed off. It also saved me hours of filling out blue cards because you can generate a double-sided pdf from within the app and then print it out. Features: - Digital signatures - Pie chart showing each boy for each rank/badge/requirement - PDF blue cards. (Huge time saver!) - Made and tested by real scoutmaster and troop

Microsoft Planner requires an eligible Office 365 work or school subscription. This app does not support Office 365 personal accounts (for example: name@outlook.com or name@hotmail.com). If you are not sure about your company’s subscription or the services you have access to, please contact your IT department. Planner provides a simple, visual way to organize teamwork. Planner makes it easy for your team to create new plans, organize and assign tasks, share files, chat about what you’re working on, and get updates on progress. -- Organize work visually -- Each plan has its own board, where you can organize tasks into buckets. You can categorize tasks based on their status or on whom they’re assigned to. To update the status or change assignments, just drag and drop tasks between columns. -- Visibility -- The My Tasks view provides a comprehensive list of all your tasks and their status across all your plans. When working together on a plan, team members always know who is working on what. -- Collaborate -- Built for Office 365, Planner lets you work together on the same tasks, attach captured photos directly to them, and even have conversations around tasks without switching between apps. With Planner, all your team’s discussions and deliverables stay with the plan and don’t get locked away across disparate applications. -- Works across devices -- Planner works across all your devices. And with Planner, everyone is always on the same page. Continue conversations and updates tasks while on-the-go or at your desk. Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Scout Champ at 85% against Microsoft Planner's 29%. Scout Champ also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.0). Microsoft Planner's advantage is update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 19 months) and ratings volume (13K vs 53). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Microsoft Planner holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Microsoft Planner has 13K ratings behind it against 53, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 85% of Scout Champ's written reviews are positive against 29% of Microsoft Planner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Scout Champ ships an update every 19 months, Microsoft Planner every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
