  • Great Start, few complaints

Of all the apps or ways to learn Japanese this one is one of the best. It gives you a great, well balanced mix of vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure and before any of that teaches the Japanese alphabets so you can learn to read and pronounce what you see. That being said, I do have some complaints which is why I took off a star. I feel it lacks some explanations for why things are, so I’m left to guess as to whether some examples are exceptions or a rule I don’t know. Another is that in the explanations they are sometimes worded a bit confusingly. And in my opinion it should give you more example sentences to practice so that it forces you to formulate translations in your head instead of eventually memorizing those few that are given. Though really not a big deal overall and it’s still great and better than anything else, especially the green owl app I hate. I would recommend changing all the setting to self-grade to help learn. It’s harder at first but forces you to memorize everything.

  • Spectacular App

Amazing design and content. Runs perfectly every single time. Extensive lessons. Everything explained concisely but clearly, I never have to second guess whether an explanation means this or that. I can only imagine the huge amount of work that goes into making such complexity look so elegantly simple. App is very engrossing, time flies. Always makes me feel I have made progress. I also use this Kanji app, same quality offering. They make learning Japanese very enjoyable. Highly recommend both.

  • Good app but cost money

I tried the first levels and overall they were really good.
The app is simple doesn't have too much going with a bunch of extra features you’re not gonna use, which is perfect for slower devices. I think the app would be perfect for anyone who wants to practice learning and writing Hiragana, katakana, and kanji along with grammar; however the app cost $11 to unlock all the levels.

  • Favorite app

This has to be one of the best learning app.
  • It’s a good app but just needs a little bit of work

I think the app is really good, but with the hiragana you should show a picture that looks like the hiragana, for example the u it looks like a old lady bending over, and she might be saying uuuu my bad back!!
It helps me remember the different types of hiragana because their so complicated, and there’s so many of them!
Other wise it’s really good and i recommend it.😊

  • Super basic and great memorising !

It’s super interactive and smart ! It takes you through all the a basics of writing to pronunciation to reading and then learning basic helpful and useful sentences and so much more ! Definitely recommend ! The set up is really nice too !
  • It’s for pay

Even though in the App Store there is no ‘in-app purchase’ warning, the app is actually not free. I spent good time getting started to find that after 2 lessons, there is a pay-push.

This is dishonest, I uninstalled right away. There are better paid Japanese writing apps.
  • Definitely the best app for this

I love this app. It’s made learning Japanese so much easier than I expected. The lesson review feature makes a big difference.

I wanted to give the app five stars, but there are a few bugs that really do make a few things challenging.

    1. There’s a feedback button and form available through the settings in each level. The form does not appear to work. This is a big deal, because it makes reporting bugs a challenge. When it comes to learning a language, a bug in the way the app teaches you, means you’re learning wrong. I also tried the App Support link here in the App Store but the website is broken—so I’ve resolved to writing a review with these bugs.

    2. The audio for learning “library” (としょかん) is incorrect. It says “toshiyokan” instead of “toshokan.” Thankfully, since I’ve already mastered hiragana at this point, I was able to see the use of the small よ next to the し. I still had to look it up to verify, that part wasn’t the issue.

    3. The app teaches あの for “um…” but then also teaches あの for “that.” Both are correct of course, but after teaching “that,” all of the review lessons ask for “um…” and never “that.” This meant that I kind of just had to remember that it also means “that” the first time.

It’s still a great app, and I will continue to use it, but it would be great to have these bugs fixed—especially the feedback form.

  • Its ok

It would be more helpful if I could learn more than like 8 characters of katakan and hiragana. I guess I can’t expect everything for free. I wish there was an ad version, tbh.
