  • Best Rogue-like on the App Store

In the never ending quest to find one rogue-like to rule them all, Pathos consistently challenges and satisfies. It’s about as close to perfect as one could reasonable expect, given that NetHack, Rogue, Angband, etc. Have more commands than there are keys on a keyboard!

If you’re looking for a classic style dungeon crawler out of nostalgia or just want to see the underpinnings and heritage of the genre, look no further…

    🎲🎲 Critical hit!

  • Love me some convenient nethack!

Love the game! But I need help. I got lucky with an early polymorph zap and have a pet giant shoggoth, but ‘shaggy’ keeps starving. Tried ‘sharing’ metal items, leaving them on the floor etc but it keeps starving and fainting :( Any help appreciated please!
  • Love this game

Honestly I love this game. I hope that you realize there is a fan base for this game and that we love to see updates. Each time I play it, it’s like a new puzzle to solve and I just love it so much. I hope to see new things come to life in this great game.
  • What I have been looking for

Best roguelike I ever played on iOS
  • Pathos is absolutely the best!

Pathos is absolutely one of the best thing in the app store at any price. The price just makes it that much better and you have no excuse for not trying it. Yes, you will die a lot. This is a Nethack variant after all. But the journey is the fun and it’s random so it’s also endlessly replayable.
  • My new favorite iOS game

I think first and foremost to new players the most important thing about this game is to be patient. It can be very frustrating at first and downright confusing. The game doesn’t hold your hand and it can be very punishing if you don’t know what to do, but that is a large part of its charm to me.

Figuring out a proper way to play the game is rewarding. I love seeing my spell book fill up, or my skillset and stats growing as I progress further I to the dungeons. Plus there is a surprising amount of depth to the game. There are many rules or mechanics to remember but I don’t find it tedious. Overall I think Pathos does an excellent job at making you feel satisfied with the time you’ve put into the game.

For new players I would recommend checking out the subreddit for the game. I know a common complaint is that the in game help menu can be hard to understand, and that some might say you shouldn’t need outside help. However, to me I find it more fun to ask questions and browse other posts. The community and the developer are active and ready to give hints and advice. I feel like I always learn something new and it I think the community aspect makes the game feel more lively.

I could say more, but the main point I want to get across is be patient, ask questions, and keep playing. It is well worth the effort!

  • The best game in the App Store.

The interface is so simple, you wonder why you’ve never seen it before. I’ve played through the game at least 20 times and always trying something new. I can play while watching TV or on my breaks at work. I’ve played it for half the night and also for literally 45 seconds. I always come back to Pathos.

  • One of the best roguelikes on iOS

It’s seriously so good, lots of great nethack stuff plus some cool original ideas. I’ve spent many hours on this game and will probably spend hours more
  • Approachable, intuitive, Replay-able. Play it!

This game is amazing. It’s very approachable, and has an easy to use ui. A ton of depth, class/race combinations, and rng makes this game super easy to sink a ton of time into on any platform (you may have to pay attention if you wanna go deep). If you enjoy playing rogue-likes definitely give this one a shot. It’s free!

  • Amazing modern streamlined version of Nethack

I’ve been playing nethack in some form or another since I was a kid, but this version eliminates many of the tedious aspects of the game and packages it up as a intuitive streamlined version for mobile. It is one of those things that you didn’t realize how bad you wanted this exact thing until you have it in your hands.
