Worst app ever

It looks like the app won’t let me use it because I won’t share all my private information. I downloaded it once to use my brush but it didn’t work so I deleted it and re installed but now won’t go further than the privacy bits. I bought a toothbrush for goodness sake - why would I want the whole world to know my details?

Broken (still broken)

Edit: it still crashes after the latest update

Edit: like so many other people the app crashes as soon as it connects to the toothbrush. Maybe time to use the EU rules to ask for a total refund. Pretty poor for this not to be fixed for so long.

It works pretty well for me but there’s a few very basic options that would be so easy to add and make this so much better.

- option to alternate start teeth each time. You have the most toothpaste at the start, so why always start at the same place every single day?
- button to ‘extend’ time in a zone. So while it’s ticking down you could tap a button on the app to add another 10 seconds. It often gets it wrong where you’re brushing and I waste a lot of time either moving so it realises or brushing again.
- option to add extra time for biting surfaces. Brushing back teeth outer/inner AND biting surfaces in the time it gives properly is not easy.
- extended time. 2 minutes is the MINIMUM recommended brushing time by dentists NOT the exact time. There should be an option to extend the time to 3/4 or even 5 minutes. This is made worse by the app only using 2 minutes for deep clean mode too.

I noticed that if you need touch up in 5 zones the brush continues to the 6th while the app says you’re done. I wonder if you took a shortcut in the firmware to fix it to a 2 minute cycle on Bluetooth and that’s also why deep clean is also limited to 2 minutes.

Good but could be so much better

The app often does not recognize where in the mouth you are brushing. For example, in touch up, where the zone inside is yellow, I am brushing on the inside, yet the app is highlighting the outside area that is already a clean white. I can appreciate if the device does not think that I have brushed adequately, but when it does not register that any brushing has taken place, it is quite frustrating. Called technical support and went through a series of resets with no improvement. They then sent a new handle (under warranty), but still having same issues. It is a great concept and very good incentive to good oral care, I just wish that the bugs could get sorted out! Firmware and app are both up to date...
This is an update to previous review. The solution to my problem was found in another review—-the toothbrush must be level for the feedback to the app to be accurate. The only way to achieve this is to have the phone mounted in front of you on the mirror. My husband’s Oral B toothbrush came with this mount, which he does not use. It works like a charm and should be part of the package when buying the brush along with instructions to mount the phone and keep the toothbrush level! I would give this 5 stars, if the mount were included.

Crashes! Please fix.

Using this current app version on iOS 12.2 seems unstable on my iPhone 6S. Will get to the end of the bushing routine and before asking me if I flossed etc it will often just crash and vanish off my iPhone display.

The app needs more flexibility. I want more control

Overall it works as intended, it is a great tool to keep track of you brushing habits. However I have suggestions that would make the experience even more personal and effective.

1. Molars have three surfaces, inner surface, outer surface and chewing surface. The app does not recognize the chewing surface of the molar, thus when you brush this area the app will not consider this effective brushing. The app should also recognize the chewing surface allowing for and registering time for it.

2. Although the “scientifically recommended” brush time is two minutes, maybe I want to brush for three minutes. It’s my mouth and my expensive toothbrush I should be able to add to the brushing time. Actually in other countries, the recommended time is three minutes.

3. When I miss a spot... since the app does not recognize the chewing surface, the app does not record that time. Leaving that area yellow. I recommend that when the app reads that I miss an area, I be allowed to turn the brush on again and hit the areas I missed, and not have to go through the whole brushing sequence. The app should allow for me to just hit the spots that need the additional attention.

4. Finally I agree that consistency will be key to a cleaner mouth. But maybe I want to start my brushing routine on the right side or my mouth not the left. A left handed person might find this more pleasing.

App is unstable and buggy

Since April 2019 app update, I’ve noticed a few major issues with the app.

1) latency of initially loading app is much longer than before. This makes a big difference when all I want to do is have the app connect and start brushing. I don’t want to wait 20 seconds after I put toothpaste on my toothbrush for the app to start, let alone sync with toothbrush. This adds considerable customer friction and undermines value proposition of app-toothbrush to encourage users to brush more.

2) even when app connects with toothbrush, app tends to lose connection for first 20 seconds before reconnecting. This leads app to incorrectly note that the first section of my mouth was not brushed thoroughly/has poor brushing coverage. To counteract this, I now do two brush cycles, and app seems to be stable when I am doing second brush cycle. But, this is wasteful for my time and the brush lifetime.

Terrible app for $300 toothbrush

Got Sonicare Diamondclean Smart 9700, which is their top-of-the-line toothbrush. BLE connects fine to app, but then it stops at Step 3 because it says “internet offline.” The app will not allow me to proceed further. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app about a dozen times and obviously my iPhone XS Max (latest iOS software) is not offline, but same result. Thus, the highlight feature of this $300 toothbrush doesn’t work, and Philips has no coherent response. I called support and after it took the agent about 5 tries, she finally came back with the very astute advice to uninstall and reinstall the app. It’s been “elevated” to presumably someone that is doing something other than reading a script, which will take 5-7 business days. I’m giving Philips a few days to resolve this mess, or the $300 toothbrush is going back from where it came. How hard is it to make a working app in 2019? Test the software before you release it with a premium product!

APP Unstable

I have owned the toothbrush since July 2017. I like the toothbrush a lot. It is much better built than the other toothbrushes from Sonicare I have used. However, the APP is very unstable. Sometimes it starts other times it gives me the pretty model picture for a second or two and then goes back to my iPhone icon listing. Other times when the program starts to work, it won’t register the top right portion of the feedback correctly and then finally gets serious on the top center and the remaining of its cleaning cycle. What is the point of awarding me points for brushing? I don’t need worthless incentives from someone I don’t even know. This app needs to be withdrawn and rebuilt from scratch. Yes, I am using the latest IOS version and my toothbrush does connect to the app. Users rate the app at 4.8 out of 5. I do not understand this. Based on other comments here, my experience is not isolated. I will continue to use the toothbrush but I have stopped using the app. Waiting for a year and a half for the company to fix the app is too long for me. Am I disappointed? You bet I am!

Toothbrush is good but...

The app is not so good. You can easily override the calendar and make it look like you’ve been using the tongue cleaner even if you haven’t.

Also no deep clean mode support, it runs for 2 minutes with the app... without the app it runs 3 minutes like it’s supposed to.

And that’s all when the app decides to work which at the moment is never!

When starting your brush it always makes you start in the upper right side, I think this should change from left to right to make it more even or at the very least this option should be available in the settings.

I’ve also noticed that it doesn’t store a lot of the actual data, once you’re on the next day you won’t be able to find out what times you did your teeth say the week before... also when creating a report I had an average of 1:30seconds which isn’t true because I’ve stuck to the 2minutes twice a day and tongue cleaning once a day... the algorithm I think is off somewhere too.

1 star for app and 5 stars for the brush I’m afraid and for £350 that’s really bad.

5 Star Brush 3 star app?

The app is ok but kinda clunky to navigate, it also needs to support multiple handles for people with multiple homes and locations
