  • Excellent. Other chat platforms, take note.

The app in its current state is excellent. Plenty of functionality (looking at you Apple with your lack of threaded replies in iMessage) and with security at its core, as any self respecting modern chat platform should be.
My only critique would be that the free matrix server provided can be very slow at times. There are other homeservers you can use, or you could even host your own. Completely free of course.

  • Works fantastically but needs 1 bug fix

Works fantastically but needs 1 bug fix. Jitsi video calls in a room call the phone and video and audio work fine. If you start a call from the iPhone to the people in the room - the room sees a notice about a call but no call comes in and no way to accept it in Chrome
  • Registering failed

Have tried to register over 10 times and it’s none stop saying the register failed ui time run out, when it’s literally seconds between creating a new account and pressing create but still no luck
  • Google captcha?

Why advertise this app as private if you are using Google's captcha to verify new accounts?
  • Great potential

    A few complaints:
    • Community descriptions are broken with dark theme. The background is white with bluish font colour - very annoying.

    • The UI design/flow could be improved for tablet screens - it feels like an iPhone app just scaled larger.

    • Can't change any settings of my communities using the app.

    • Community and group icons are too compressed and look terrible, please add an option to force load the highest quality version.

    • Tapping on a group logo will crash the app.

  • Pretty Good

As chat apps go, this one works pretty well, but it still has a few rough edges. Particularly, its handling of encryption keys is rough compared to other apps like Wire and Keybase—Every time a new device is added, everyone needs to go through and re-verify it, which is a hassle and a turn-off for getting my friends to use it. If you don’t re-verify, everyone in every chat you participate in will see a scary warning, and there’s no way to permanently dismiss it.

  • Missing lots of functions

The most simplest thing in a messaging app is the ability to reply to selected previous messages something which is lacking in this app!
  • Rooms issue

Will not let me decline room invitations. So constantly have a red notification on the app when it’s closed. It’s also slow.
  • Dont waste your time

Tried it out. Great at first. Crystal clear calls, then suddenly no call option. Now only video calls. Video meeting calls. Are they still private and part of my chat room? No idea. Not clear within the app. Now video calls starting when i dont click on “call” (not that any of them ever worked after the first call) just ringing forever and being frustrated for well over an hour. Feels super sketchy to be honest. I wont be returning.

  • Good for nerds - hard for consumers

This app is great. It is always improving and e2e validation is coming along. If identity could be tied to phone number 3pid and verified on other devices by qr code via the registered phone it would be smoother.
Initial setup requires some steps that could be made more intuitive to the consumer. Custom server address, for example. It would be great if the app could get that info from an invite URL sent by SMS or email.
At the moment the app is fantastic for anyone who is a little nerdy and doesn’t mind searching stuff out. The average middle-age consumer will have less patience for it.
