Slow and feels unfinished
Sometimes when I open the app it takes a long time to update chats. Sometimes it doesn’t at all.
The app feels unfinished as well. The UI just really needs a clean-up, honestly.
I like the idea behind Element/Matrix though. Just give the apps some more love.lolrepeatlol
Greatly improved over the last year, among the best for privacy and security
Some of the bigger issues, like cross device verification in chat rooms with many people have been simplified to be more similar to the workflow keybase had. It’s now much better, and I haven’t experienced any of the other problems some users complain about. I don’t really think the name change is significant. Right now the app works really well for what it sets out to do, and is my choice for secure e2ee messaging.Show lessCoops58
Rebranding killed notifications apparently
Overall I’d been pretty happy with the Riot app but this rebranding killed the alert badge on the icon when there are new messages. I’ve gone through all in-app settings and through general notification with no luck. Frustrating.chdorr
Conspicuous name change?
Not a little offended by the timing here. With companies and artists around the world rebranding to express sensitivity and solidarity with black bodies, now is not the time for disavowing important tools of civil disobedience and uprising just to assuage white fragility. Great decentralised communication tool
Really usable and great features for chatting one-on-one or in chatrooms, even though I’ve had trouble getting notifications from the app. Loving how much easier it is to use encryption now - quite a feat for a decentralised protocol!

I wouldn’t say “lighter on battery”...
After the update from the old app (Riot), this app drains battery _quickly_.
Most apps On my phone have at most 2-5 minutes in background. This app had 45 yesterday and almost 30 by lunchtime today. My phone is warm to the touch every time I get it out of my pocket.alesplin
